    I got a Light Pink Shi Shi™ Camellia in pot 1 month ago and today I got 2 Kramer's Supreme Camellia ( japonica) - 1 gallon so I am considering planting these in the ground. I am in zone 8a TEXAS so I need shade for these of course. thanks for going thru all that you do to keep your camellias thriving.

    So happy you got your first camellia. I just recently got the Camilla Japonica. I live in zone 7 & I was advised not to plant in the pot unless the Camilla was a zone 5 so it won’t freeze. I was sad since I wanted to keep in a container.

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  2 года назад

      I heard that too about camellias. Plants that are in ground can withstand the cold much better. I was so afraid I was going to lose mine this past winter because I wasn’t home to protect them and we had a 10 day freeze period. So glad I didn’t though. I wish I could be less selfish and put them in the ground even though it’ll be in parts of the house that I can’t see… but I can’t let go yet lol. I’m sure I’ll have no choice but to succumb to that in a few years’ time.

    That type or size of the pot that you are using 👉not enough gravel that you put with! Use atleast 3or4 bowls that you have and just use ordinary gravel much better if you are using bigger sizes and the smaller put on the top around the plants can provide moisture of your plants ☝🖐💥atsuuup 👍

    Thank you for posting this video. How often do you reapply the soil acidifier?

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  Год назад

      You’re very welcome! I have been changing the soil every other year and that’s when I add the soil acidifier to the new and old soil. So say.. after 2 seasons or so. They’ve been great so far. These guys don’t suffer too badly from transplant shock if you handle the roots gently enough and do it at the right time of year, from my experience anyway. Right after flowering in spring is the best time to give them all the love they need whether it be repotting, changing soil or fertilizing.

    Where do you purchase your camellias? I have been specifically looking for the debutante. Thank you

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  2 года назад +2

      I got mine from Lowe’s garden center last year. All of my camellias were grown by Monrovia. You can also buy directly from Monrovia as they provide shipping. I just went on Monrovia’s page to look for Debutante and for some reason there’s no “add to cart” option… maybe they’re sold out? But check again to be sure. Debutante variety is my favorite! Absolutely stunning when in bloom. I hope you get yours soon :)

    • @tw333ti
      @tw333ti 2 года назад

      @@Linasgardens thanks for replying back so soon. I just punched in my zip code on Monrovia website and a 3.6 gallon debutante is 96 dollars! Is this a mistake or that’s the average price?

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  2 года назад +1

      @@tw333ti wow.. that is expensive! At Lowe’s they go for $49 and they’re in like 4-gallon containers, like the one I have in this video. The thing with Lowe’s is I have to visit their garden center often during the winter months to keep an eye out for Monrovia camellias. They don’t always have the same varieties every year. And when they do have them, they’re gone fast! I almost missed out on Debutante because I hesitated. Just goes to show how sought after these shrubs are. You can try to go on Lowe’s app and see if they have some there, too. Free pick-up in store option.

    Where is your favorite source to buy camellias? have you tried ordering online before? Thank you.

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  Год назад

      All of my camellias are from Monrovia. They were being sold at my local Lowe’s garden center. Monrovia sells them on their website too but they are more expensive online (and we have to pay for shipping) If I remember correctly I paid maybe about $40 for each of these and they came in 4-gallon containers.
      I tried buying some trees and shrubs online before but the success rate was 50/50 🥲 I’d rather buy plants in person if I can. I got these camellias in the winter and it was quite by chance actually. I had to go to Lowe’s for some household stuff and thought the garden center section was closed so I was surprised when I saw it was open with these camellias for sale!!! I was so glad I ran into them. I grabbed just 1 or 2 at first and went back for more. There weren’t very many of them and they were going fast… seems everyone loves them around here.
      Thank you for visiting my garden and for your comments by the way 🌸🌿

    How tall is your tallest camellia? I'd like to use them for screening and I'd like them to get about 8ft tall

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  2 года назад +1

      Hi. Are you planting your camellias in the ground? If so, they will surely be tall. All the camellias I’ve seen in my area that are planted in the ground are all 8-10ft at least. Mine are in containers and will probably never be taller than 6ft because of the container size and my pruning them. I think camellias would make great privacy shrubs because they’re dense and evergreen.

    Do you have any yellow or silver dollar camellia? I mean its pretty rare to find one.

    • @Linasgardens
      @Linasgardens  2 года назад +2

      I had to google what silver dollar camellia is lol. I don’t have any white camellia at the moment, closest one I’ve got is tricolor camellia which is supposed to have 3 colors in one. I’ve never seen yellow camellias before. Do they exist? I thought camellias only came in white, pink and red. I’m a sucker for anything pink… so now I have 3 camellias in different shades of pinks 😅
