- After a long time, I have another Spec II showcase for y'all. A couple months ago a modder by the name of zinklesmesh contributed a lot of work towards Spec II by adding new camera angles for all the cars in the game. These had to be implemented individually meaning it was very time consuming. This will give everyone more variety while driving, so it is a very much appreciated addition!
There will be more Spec II mod content in the future as it gets more development.

What I really hope this mod will be able to pull off in the future is getting rid of those single-file rolling starts.
Grid starts and rolling starts are dependent on some tracks, like in Trial Mountain where the race starts on grid, while in reverse where it starts on rolling.
They can't rid of it, but they can do grid starts within the race event.
@@KikuraKun How come you get grid starts on Tsukuba for the license test and the Subaru 1-Lap Miracle event but rolling starts for both arcade and simulation events?
@@bluesrike Like I said on the second paragraph, you can do grid starts within the race event. Just create one race and set them to 'Grid Start'.
Arcade Mode is a separate thing in the game.

Believe it or not zinklesmesh actually cranked out all of these tweaks in about half a week to a week, with some extra tweaks based on my feedback. He expressed interest and I started making a tool that catered to exactly how he wanted to edit the cameras and we got a really nice system going to turn it into a much smaller task.

Pixilated interiors aside, the steering animations for the convertible cars look amazing especially for a game from 2004
when the cockpit animation is better than modern racing games
Cockpit cam in Gt4 is so awesome, even using the existing cockpit pnach is a mixed bag since some cars have interior sprites blocking the view, and it is still dead center so not a true cockpit cam. Awesome
I find so satisfying the animation that the character do on the steering wheel

With this new cameras, would be nice start to think chnace HUD position... rpm and speedomteter type... Maybe for the GT3 or NFSU2...
Thanks for posting this! This is really awesome to see. I am currently playing the Randomizer for the first time and was blown away by what was available from Spec II.
This is definitely a hot take but, I am admittedly not the biggest fan of GT4 and it's so nice to see the little things I wasn't a fan of being updated for a fresh experience. I never played this one to the end, but that is definitely going to change someday.
Can't wait to try this out when the first version comes out

I can't remember if this was touched on in the mod previously but fixing the stats on the Gillet Vertigo and the Lister Storm so they can race viably in their correct classes would be excellent.
I've done some spec corrections to other cars, so I'm not against fixing the Gillet and Lister if I can source some decent stats
Awesome stuff, tempted to play some more GT4 once again but I really want to wait for this mod and I'm sure it's worth the wait. I'm so glad people have figured out how to mod PS2 games to this extent, I would've never guessed someone could pull something like this off considering even the majority of old PC games don't get anywhere near this kind of treatment from the community

Hood camera looking good
Even with basic interiors its quite cool to drive in such a way in GT4, even GT5 with just outlines [although GTPSP is suprisingly far better with interiors... lol]
Curently there is just that cheat that only repositions the camera so every car is like a weird ass McLaren F1, but this seems quite promising.

Retuned mod isn't something I'm interested in to Spec II won't be doing anything like that

Nice. I wish there was a VR fork of PCSX2 so GT4 could be experienced in VR, but I guess it'll be only possible with GTPSP for now.

A hood cam!! AWESOME!! I hope this will be done to GT3 and so on too. The lack of decent hood cams always has been a dealbreaker for me.
I know some cars have each interior model. So, I'll try this camera mod because more reality.

PCSX2 is nowhere near as demanding as it used to be now. Should be good on mid range specs

Didn't think a cockpit camera would be possible due to the game not having any gameplay cameras by default that were not centered on the car, but now that I know, considering the limitations of the car's modeling and textures, I want to know why the lack of love for some driver side hood camera? Why is that so rare in games? Would be a cool camera for GT4. Or 5 or 6. 3 too. But 1 and 2 maybe not, the hood cameras we already can get show the detail is too low for it to work (many details like scoops were drawn on, and didn't have any "effect" for it to have reflections act different, like we seem to have on the PS2 titles*)
And first person in this mod and in GT PSP shows that standards could have looked better on GT5~6. On PSP you can see the car's exterior model, with detailed mirror and you can see the car's color, and some "poorly" made R34s and a few other cars even have the top of the dashboard visible. In GT5 and 6, you can't see anything at all of the standard cars in cockpit camera other than the black silhouette. If it's a japanese car with fender mirrors, you can't even see those (and if you never noticed this before, now you can't unsee.. oooo)
*Also noticed that it seems to be one thing that makes some standard cars on GT5 and 6 uglier. The "panel gap lines" have reflections as if they were not there, so the car might seem to lack some depth. You have premium cars, semi-premium cars with improved body panels and smoothed models but no interiors, good standards with texture panel gaps that at least don't reflect like the car's body, and ugly standards that, if you paint it black, don't even seem to have panel gaps at all.
Would be funny to have a passenger seat cam, which is identical to the cockpit cam, but on the passenger seat POV. Single Seaters would simply have it unavailable or as a TV cam identical to F1 onboard cameras.
Is this mod currently available? Or do you have a test build?
Do you know if the jagged edges on the cockpit views will be smoothed out and cleaned up a bit more. It looks a lot better than the mid-mounted view that was put out a few years ago.
Not really possible, we just have to deal with what we're given. The cockpit cam is mostly there as a novelty, I wouldn't expect people to use it on every car as in a lot of cases it does just look bad. It's not high enough quality to be seen as a serious thing IMO

Hey, a few game modes say "coming soon gran turismo 4 spec II". When in these game modes a can play normally on the original GT4... like create a championship in a aleatory track on GT mode.. Do you know if this original modes, for real, coming or not? Or this message is of the properly version of "gran turismo 4 online" and not of the mod? English isnt my native language, so, sorry haha
Will this playable on a ps2, or emulator only?
How do you get analog button inputs to work correctly? They look like you're getting some half presses in, based on the UI. I'm using a PS3 controller with PSCX2 and while the stick works, the buttons seem to be only on or off.
I play with a wheel and pedals, and DS3 does not have analog face buttons iirc
@@RowdyGTDS3 has analogue face buttons, DS4 doesn't though
I'm not a fan of the roof cam in GT4, between the roof cam and bumper cam, I'd rather choose the bumper cam, the bonnet cam is definetly a very welcome addition, as well as the interior cam (which I'm also very fan of) and the tall 3rd person cam, more variety of options is alwahs good for everybody

Would be great if the QoL improvements were released first and the more intricate and difficult stuff released later.

Thanks for reminding that mods are made by hobbysts, differently from DLCs. So, maximum respect for the works of theese guys, but at the same time don't be severe as when judging the work made by people who make this for moneys

Is it compatible with the HUD and GT3 camera mods?
They are all unrelated in terms of execution. PCSX2 cheats would need to be converted for the patched ISO. The hud is just pcsx2 texture replacements

@BraiaCorno ah I think there's a miscommunication here but my fault. I conflated the full spec 2 mod with the released randomizer part of it
I hope the modders can take cockpits from asserto corsa, gtr2, gt 5 etc and put them in gt 4.

Absolutely not. GT4 already has a hard time with model and texture porting, but even if you were somehow able to do it, you would face tons of performance issues and you would never find modeled interiors for everything in the first place. Never going to happen for this game
@@RowdyGT so there is no work around possible? Couldn't they reduce the poly count of the 3d models then? I saw a working cockpit with hands on the steering for the Shelby Cobra in Gt 4. So why was that possible then? Hopefully they can crack it.

Does anyone know if its possible to mod GT4 to have more than 6 cars in a race? Id love to get 12 or more in a race
Pretty certain it's been asked before and the modders said it's been hard-coded into the game so it can't be changed unfortunately.

Yeah, it's hard coded, and even if it were changeable it would rapidly cause issues regarding the limits of 32 bit programming if i recall
@@r10101 pretty sure the PS3 was a 64 bit machine. PS1 and PS2 were 32bit. LOL wow brainfart...GT4 WAS PS2 lol. Man, it looks so good with the HD mod that I keep forgetting that lol. But on that note, the original Forza on original Xbox had 8 cars at once
The original xbox was just a shitty Pentium 3 gaming PC with a controller. So it was more powerful then the PS2 was at a hardware level. @@Whyteeford
