Ways we Spend Quality Time with Our Children // Encouraging Masculinity & Femininity

  • Today we are going to be talking about how we are able to get quality time with each one of our children. Specifically, how we encourage femininity and masculinity in these activities that we do with them. We think it’s really important to get that intentional time with each child. It’s not always one on one time, but it’s intentional time that we are looking them in the eyes and connecting with them and tying those heart strings. This helps to pave the path for future harder conversations and letting our children know that we are here for them, we want to listen and what they say is important. We also want to show them the wisdom that we have and hopefully we have a lot more of it in the years to come. It is so true that more is caught than taught. We want to show our children the beauty of femininity and masculinity and the way that God has breathed these different things into us.
When you let go of the whole efficiency piece of life that we so often like to gravitate towards and finding the most efficient way to do something, then that really frees you to enjoy those relational building times. When it comes to femininity and masculinity, it’s not necessarily that you have to be doing something that’s rough and tumble or girly by classification. By spending time with your child, they’re picking up what is feminine or masculine by who you are.
The number one thing we can do for our children is prioritizing our relationship with Christ and with each other as husband and wife. When they know that daddy and mommy are prioritizing their relationship, they love and take time for each other and show that they are a unit and unified, that is something our children will take into their own marriages one day. It is also something that makes them feel secure right now. We don’t need their affirmation or for them to tell us we’re a good parent because we are getting our own fulfillment and relational strength from Christ first and the relationship we have with our spouse.

This was a wonderful video! I would love to see a follow up video showing how Mom bonds with her sons and how Dad bonds with his daughter.

I have six kids that are 8 years old and under. Sometimes I'll notice one of the kiddos needing personal time with me. So I created "snuggle time." Every day that I'm able to, one child gets to snuggle me and read whatever book(s) they want, usually for 15-20 minutes. The kids LOVE snuggle time, and are always sure to remind me when it falls out of practice lol.

I have three little girls and they love mopping, dusting, organizing their dressers, making their beds! They tell daddy how much fun they have had. I always make sure to point out putting away daddy’s things first or setting out Pajamas for him when he gets home from work or leaving the light on for when he gets home from work so that they will love and respect their daddy but also their husband one day… there are moments I get irritated so I will throw on Christian radio, burst out in dance and song, pray, switch to a different activity (they love when I let them redecorate something, even if it’s just the pillows on the couch!) or run and jump around on the beds with lots of giggles… we have recently gotten into bread making, but also enjoy taking care of our bunnies/ducks/and chickens as a whole family… especially enjoy hatching chicks and watching them grow. It really brings the family together every spring!

I agree. The joy is in the doing. I have so many wonderful memories of the things I did with family and friends. Kids need this. I hate seeing them on devices more than having experiences. We need to be intentional now a days.

We have been investing in all the same things with our littles! It’s fun to spend quality time while learning new skills.
For us girls, lots of traditional cooking and baking. My husband took up hunting this past year and we are hoping to invest in some land soon for our legacy. He wants hunting to be a fun hobby for him and the boys to share…plus it’s a bonus to be able to provide food for your family.
Funnily, foraging is one of the skills too! My daughter and I are learning herbalism alongside that together. I try to incorporate it in her homeschool with drawing the plant and listing a couple basic uses. She loves it! We felt herbalism was a good one - in case of healthcare system takes a hit. The men can hunt and we can take care of people if they get hurt!

Hi there guys, my husband and I just found you a few weeks ago and have been loving your videos. It is so encouraging and refreshing to see the male and female Godly perspective on a lot of your topics and so we wanted to request a video on how you guys talk to your boys about purity. The fact that your kids being so YOUNG were able to open up to you guys about how they either looked away quickly or looked for a little longer when they saw those girls with little clothes was just so beautiful to us. We would love to hear how you guys plant that seed on them and present those subjects to them in this time where promiscuity is found EVERYWHERE! We would love to hear how your husband specifically is able to relate to them in that sense as well as how you play a role as their mother on relating to them afar from displaying modesty in your own home.

We have 5 kids similar ages as yours (7 , 5, 4, 2 and 2 months). Last year we started doing 1 on 1 time each Friday for 1 hour and we rotate each week to help foster the siblings relationships and also us to get individual time with each kid as well. Usually it's just picking something at home to do together like puzzles, games, legos, reading, art projects etc. We have all really enjoyed it and our kids look forward to it as well!

They have a video on this! They practice it in the evenings, they all sit together and read the Bible first then a storybook then they’ll do something fun like a skit. They said they had to start out small to get the kids used to sitting still- so like just 10 mins at first then built it up to an hour and 30 mins!

I know what you're saying but I believe the reason channels do this isn't so much for how it looks but because it makes editing easier. Cuts back and forth are much smoother if you can switch camera angles when you cut rather than keeping the same angle and cutting. It looks more professional and smooth, less choppy. And takes way less editing time to make it look good. I believe this is a way they have chosen to streamline the editing process so they can put out more content for us - which is fine by me! 😃

I do apprechiate that woman are woman and men are men and there is a difference. But from what you explained I feel like you are just so much following stereotypes that people invented what man should do and what woman should do. Lucy should learn to cook and do domestic things etc and the boys should build fires and fight and go in the woods. I think this is a very shallow way to view the differences and also its discriminating, I am sure that at stone ages also woman needed to know how to build a fire for example and that the girl would also like quality time with their father and its also great for girls to do Jiu Jitsu. I am a woman and I am very happy I did Jui Jitsu so I learned for example to avoid injuries when falling or to defend myself - that may be especially important for girls in some situations of life.. for me embracing masculinity / feminity is something else like the way my husband really supports me when I am afraid or he really has more physical strenght and uses it to support me and protect me when needed. I know you mentioned that also at one point but this focus on seperating activities so much still feels wrong to me. i‘d rather offer it to all of them and then if the girl is not interested in some of the more masculin stuff I‘d think of that maybe natural but if she likes it its still good!
