  • Here I’ve listed the 10 ingredients that are the most commonly found in cosmetics and that are absolutely to be avoided:
    1 MINERAL OIL, also known as petroleum, petrolatum, paraffinum liquidum, petroleum jelly; classified as carcinogen Group 1 to humans, by the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, this is an oil derivative that clogs your pores and coats the skin like plastic. In turn it disrupts your body's natural ability to moisturize its own skin, leading to dryness and chapping. It Interferes with skin’s ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders. Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Manufacturers use it because it's really inexpensive. Used in many products such as Baby oil and Vaseline, which are 100% made of mineral oil.
    2 PARABENS: They are widely used in cosmetics and beauty products as preservatives and antioxidants. Also known as: methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isopropylparaben, butylparaben, isobutylparaben, and benzylparaben. They're endocrine disruptors that have the potential to raise breast cancer risk and interfere in the reproductive system.
    3 Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethanolamine (TEA): These are used as foaming agents, but can cause allergic reactions, eye irritation, and dryness of the hair and skin. DEA and TEA are toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time, and are associated with cancer in lab animals.
    4 Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate: This is a cheap, very harsh detergent used in many shampoos for its ability to cleanse and foam. Often derived from petroleum, It causes eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp scurf similar to dandruff, and allergic reactions. Lookout when you buy products that contain it, sometimes it’s disguised by the definition: “derived from coconut”.
    5 Formaldehyde: Classified as a human carcinogen by the National Institutes of Health since 1981, formaldehyde and related chemicals are used as preservatives in shampoos, soaps, and other beauty products. Formaldehyde is highly toxic to all animals, regardless of method of intake. Ingestion of 30 mL (1 oz.) of a solution containing 37% formaldehyde has been reported to cause death in an adult human. Water solution of formaldehyde is very corrosive and its ingestion can cause severe injury to the upper gastrointestinal tract.
    6 Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea: these are an antimicrobial preservatives used in cosmetics. They are formaldehyde releasers and they often cause dermatitis. They are both toxic to humans.
    7 Propylene Glycol: ideally this is a vegetable glycerin mixed with grain alcohol, both of which are natural, but it's usually made from synthetic chemicals. It has been known to cause allergic and toxic reactions. Usually they it’s labeled PEG and PPG.
    8 PVP/VA Copolymer: a petroleum-derived chemical used in hairsprays, wave sets and other hair products. It can be considered toxic, since its particles may contribute to lungs intoxication of sensitive persons.
    9 Phthalates: plasticizers banned in the EU and California in children’s toys, but present in many fragrances, perfumes, deodorants, lotions. Linked to endocrine disruption, cancer, liver, kidney and lung damage.
    10 Tetrasodium EDTA: is a preservative that’s made from the known carcinogen, formaldehyde and sodium cyanide. It is also a penetration enhancer, meaning it breaks down the skin's protective barrier, going right into your bloodstream. Used mainly in soaps and creams, many companies try to be "natural" using Tetrasodium EDTA instead of parabens to preserve their products, but it is toxic.

    Thank you so much for the website. I will deffinately use it to look up any chemicals I see in my beautyproducts. 3 years ago my sister told me to avoid SLS & SLES and I didnt know why so I started to Google this chemical from that point I found so much more hazardous ingredients in our products even in babywipes, diapers, deoderant etc. They even add plastic in our food. I really was in shock. I tell my other family members constantly about this and I hope one day they will listen except for my sister, brother because theyre both allergic to a lot of chemicals just like me. I never understood why my scalp and skin was so itchy and dry to the point where I developed severe eczema from head to toe. My scalp was so itchy that I would scratch it untill it was bleeding. Now I avoid every chemical youve mentioned and more like Phenoxyethanol, Dimethecone.

    llloovvveeedd this! BTW ... what camera do you use? The clarity is amazing. Cant wait to see more from ya! We're right now converting to DIY green cleaners, so this was a good 'breakdown" on what each chemical I'm finding does.

    • @JohnFisherPlanB
      @JohnFisherPlanB 8 лет назад

      Just because something is labeled as "green" doesn't necessarily make it green. If you really wan to know, if it has a child-proof safety cap, it's poison. Take Simple Green for example, or should I say DON"t take simple green.

    • @allaorganics2365
      @allaorganics2365  8 лет назад

      +John Fisher You're absolutely right. If something is labelled "green" or "natural" it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't contain harmful chemicals.
      These companies are ready to sell you any kind of poison just to make money.
      But that's why it's important for us "consumers" to get to know the ingredients of the products we use, in our everyday life, and avoid buying the ones containing those chemicals.
      We will do a favour for our children and to the environment.

      absolutely agree... which is why I stated I'm converting to ones that are DIY. If I'm making them, then I obviously know whats in them. Vinegar goes a long way in this household :)

    Many of those chemicals are also added into the ingredient "fragrance" but I don't see that on your list to avoid?

    As an acne-prone person i also avoid DIMETHICONE used in creams/makeup which smooths out the skin (momentarily) by clogging the pores.

    oh my goodness! I've been drinking propylene glycol!! my doctor prescribed it to me for my stomach. wow, I'm definitely getting rid of that then. I was told it was a safe and natural moistener. I have been working on getting my household as natural as possible and still learning. om glad to have watched this video. thanks again for another great informative video!

      Yes, propylene glycol is a nasty chemical. Even though the level of toxicity is considered low, there's still some "TOXICITY" in it. I just prefer to steer away from it. There are always way better alternatives.

      Coconut oil? Aloe Vera?

    • @braindeadbtch
      @braindeadbtch 5 лет назад +1

      If your doctor perscribed it you might want to double check before you stop taking it. Big pharma has made medicenes that can cause severe withdraw effects that can be quite nasty. As far as doctors go, they're crooks looking only to push whatever pharmaceutical company they are sponsored by. The sicker you are , the more money they make. If you're having stomach issues, the best thing for that is MINT. Or any type of mint related herb. And if you want another amazing all natural remedy for stomach problems try CANNABIS SATIVA OR INDICA, & CBD OILS. A combination of the cannabis & mint should take care of all that for yew!! Good luck!!!🌿🍀🌴🌱👍🏽

      Alla Organics
      The website for mineral oils are not even reliable.
      The study for parabens is only an introduction and literally says that there needs to be more research. The article was citing the study form 2004 that was discredited.
      Then I read the other studies, and they disprove what you are trying to say. If you are going to research, at least look at it and try to look at the other side.
