Yes i knows this. But I was very unlucky in my test runs. 10 on iron mode and never had this event faster than like in this episode. On normal it always show way faster.
I was positively shocked when in my latest Austria campaign the pope asked me to defend the Latin Empire. I was like "Wait What?"" @lookasetbella history, probably. Hellenism was probably extinct by the 5th or 6th centuries, and its cultural practices didn't really survive crackdowns by the Christian church authorities. Asatru, the Norse faith, lasted much longer, until the 11th or 12th centuries. Even after the Norse faith was replaced by Christianity, many parts of their original faith were kept, such as poems featuring pre-christian pagan myths and certain pagan rituals that lasted for centuries after the Faith's official decline. In essence, hellenism is deader than dead and has been for nearly 1000 years at this point in the game. Norse is only half dead and was around a lot more, so a potential revival makes a *little* bit more sense

I haven't done a Latin Empire run yet, but in my ~5 starts as Byz (trying out the Candar defensive war start) I got the event every time I ended up in the war against them, and I wasn't losing those wars. Nothing in the event says you need to be losing for it to trigger, sometimes it just takes a while. It's probably a lot better to not trash your country at the start to do this. Additionally if you get those claims through the mission tree before or during the war you're going to save a bunch of AE and dip.
The event requirements only state that it should be a defensive war for Byzantium and an offensive war for Ottoman. @@lookasetbella The 'Impending doom' first mission gives you claims in anatolia which you can use in the defensve war.
