  • The Kia Sorento lineup is changing for 2022 and it includes many fuel-efficient options, but there are a lot of questions about those options. In this video, Peter walks you through the many differences between a full gasoline powered Kia Sorento, and compares that to a Kia Sorento Hybrid and a Kia Sorento PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle).

      Yes, they share the PHEV system between those two vehicles. I don't think there's any difference in the way that system works at all, the differences are outside of the powertrain and its operation.

    Hi Peter. Just catching up on PHEVs and Sorento is one that we're looking at. Question about the EV usage, is it true that I cannot drive on pure EV mode and switch to gas when the battery runs out? Saw another review and they're saying that this is the case, car will switch between gas and electric depending on the required power needed? Thanks.

    Amazing video. Thanks for pointing out the black border on the gas vs hybrid model. Also I went to my local dealer recently and told them i read there is a slight difference in the height on the second row but they said no its all the same. Great way to point that out, its very subtle, i would have not seen the difference myself. One thing i'm scared is to leave the 3 pin plug in the wall socket outside during rain or snow since i dont have a garage. Is that something relevant u think?

    Thank you for the videos!! Question: Have you heard of any issues regarding the 2022 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid SX Prestige gas gauge issue? I had bought one back in October, and have filled up the gas tank ~5 times now since I've bought the car, but the gas meter display in the car never seems to hit the FULL mark, even though the gas pump has clicked off/stopped pumping.

      It's probably a calibration issue... I would take it to Kia and have them calibrate... I am thinking it's a simple fix, and nothing actually broken. Worst case, they pop out the rear seat and replace the fuel sender, again, under warranty.

    I have a 22 Tucson hybrid, got it a few weeks ago. We took it on a trip, about 5hrs highway driving and was getting 9.3l/100k which is quite far off from the advertised gas mileage. Do you know how long it takes for it to be broken in?

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  2 года назад +2

      Mileage can vary, tweaking your driving style can help. Winter mileage is always going to be worse, and using your remote start can have an effect. I've been able to get pretty close to the mileage on the Tucson hybrid in my short trips with it. As far as break in period, I don't remember what the Tucson says, but often times you need to break the engine in (no full throttle, no revs over 4000 rpm) for the first 1000 kms. I believe the transmission still learns for about 1500 kms, and I know that on the Santa Cruz they don't recommend towing until 2000 kms. So give it some time, and see how things come around in the warmer weather as well. Beyond that, I may do a hybrid driving tips video to help squeak out a little extra mileage.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  2 года назад

      You can use either 110 or 220 and that will be called a Level 1 or a level 2 charger. I can't say how much the bill will go up, but after two and a half years of driving an electric car, I can tell you that the savings in fuelling the car vs. the increase in the electric bill is SIGNIFICANT! It's one of those things that you just don't even think about because it saves so much. There are probably online calculators to help you with this, but I don't know off the top of my head.

    10q for the detailed explanation.
    Most new car they don't have spare tire instead they have tire repair kit. Why ? and how safe to drive during unexpected time.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  2 года назад

      So many new cars have a spare tire, but some have an inflator kit. If you have tire pressure monitors, there are MANY situations where you can detect a problem before you're stranded, and an inflator kit with some tire sealer can fix small leaks. I'm not a fan of the system, but it's not as bad as it sounds. The reason that spare tires aren't always included is because of fuel efficiency. Tires are heavy and they can lower fuel efficiency. The other reason that they likely don't say out loud is that a tire and jack is more expensive than an inflator kit. Having said all of that, they do offer 5 years of unlimited km roadside assistance, so for some people, that's enough. But yes, I would prefer spare tires in everything.

    Interesting that the American PHEV at least in the SX-Prestige trim, doesn't have Mud and Sand terrain modes. It has a snow mode and if you tap the top button instead of it switching between terrain and regular driving mode, it toggles "AWD Lock" which sends power to all 4 wheels equally if I understand it correctly.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  2 года назад +1

      Yes, that's a decent basic description of what that button does. It will disengage all four wheels spinning equally as speed increases, or as the steering wheel is turned sharp. In Canada, we benefit from extra drive modes that the U.S. doesn't have right now.

    • @pinfoldjimbo
      @pinfoldjimbo 2 года назад +1

      @@BrantfordKia Actually, those drive modes are available on the other sorento models, just not the PHEV, which has the Lock button instead of terrain (although confusingly there is still a separate Snow Mode). I don't really get why they differentiated it in different markets, but it's still more than adequate. I love that it drives power to all 4 wheels off the line to eliminate slipping on initial acceleration. Much better than how most of the competitor AWD systems work (honda, toyota, etc)

    I don't understand why the gas mileage on the non-turbo gas engines gas mileage goes down so much, especially with highway driving, with the Htrac AWD version. It gets significantly less mileage than the Turbo version which is a much more powerful engine. For someone that does not need high performance power just needs adequate power that the non-turbo version seems to provide. It does not inspire confidence in the non-turbo engine and it would be expensive to drive. It doesn't make sense don't know how KIA explains this, maybe they should look for another engine for their base models.
