    Nike: nai-key
Nike chairman Phillip Knight confirmed the official pronunciation of the sportswear brand in a letter in 2014 after two fans asked him to circle the correct phonetic spelling of the word. The company name was inspired by Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.

Came here to say the same. My buddy is a Geordie (Newcastle) and he too pronounces it wrong. Even if I were to subscribe to the idea it's a Greek God, that is pronounced Nee-Kay. So why do the Brits insist on mispronouncing the brand name or the Greek God? It's worth noting the British accent basically didn't exist until 1790. While it took decades to develop, I have to believe American independence in 1776 accelerated that. Do Brits insist on mispronouncing Nike because like their accent it's about having a chip on their shoulders about the Yanks?

A couple years ago when I started playing golf, I tracked down and purchased a set of Nike Vapor Fly irons (4-AW), a Nike Vapor Pro driver, and a Nike Covert 3-Wood. And I even have a Nike MethodCore putter! I LOVE these clubs! There were in brand new condition when I bought them and I've kept them clean. They're still working great for me!

I was a Nike staff professional. I still use VR Forged irons. I always felt like Nike's irons were more forgiving than other brands irons of similar shape and material at the time. Now, there are so many irons on the market that should be able to beat them and I will probably change soon. Nike's equipment was never the longest and I think that hurt them with the recreation player. Meanwhile, the more serious golfers were put off by some of the quirky technology Nike used.

I've got a Vaporfly driver in the bag right now that I really enjoy. I've been on a pretty tight budget for clubs and found that one on FB marketplace for $50 with a Nike wedge thrown in as well. Ended up selling the wedge for something like $25 so the driver really only cost me about $25 at the end of the day. I still find it to have pretty solid distance for me as someone who isn't a particularly great golfer. It's decently forgiving as well which I like. I also think the colorway of that bright blue with the neon yellow/green looks amazing to me.
I've also not really played any of them, but I have heard that the Nike square drivers and woods are remarkably forgiving and great for beginners so long as you don't mind the sound of the driver. I also believe the SQ and Machspeed irons are supposed to be pretty great budget-ish irons.

I absolutely love the fact that you made this video… I am an avid Nike golf collector and I have 7 sets of irons still like new because I don’t play them and only collect them now. I have 5 Nike drivers 9 Nike fairway woods and 4 Nike hybrids and also 8 Nike putters and also have 6 Nike staff bags brand new with tags never used! My Nike golf collection is one of the best out there! I would 100% start playing Nike again if they started making clubs again! They were 100% as good as top brands and any idiot saying they weren’t clearly never played them! Cheers mate ⛳️🙂🤙🏼

I believe that Nike's issue was that there profit margin was not great as they were getting the equipment made for them by other companies. The balls were made by Bridgestone. If they came back they would really need to spend millions on setting up a factory to produce there own clubs

    • @QC_Charlottean
      @QC_Charlottean 3 месяца назад

Incorrect. Balls Bridgestone, yes, but Nike's clubs were theirs. They basically took on the old Hogan brand team and did their own R&D, design, marketing, etc. Their downfall is likely most related to their insistence on their own deployment strategy. By the time Nike entered the market, the release calendar had accelerated to the pace we see it today. Taylor Made is a good example of how often they release new equipment and when they release it. Nike believed being the sporting behemoth they were they didn't need to adhere to the same calendar. They were wrong. It resulted in negative reviews and commentary by the golf establishment and even Tiger wasn't enough to fight the blue bloods of golf.

I use the Nike Method putter and a 4 wood. I have two other Nike putters, 2 fairway woods, and two drivers (Covert 2.0 and Sumo Squared). Loved the Sumo driver. I also use the RZN golf balls (durable and affordable). When I get rid of my many other sets of irons, I would get Titleist irons (first choice) or Nike irons (second choice). I don't understand why they stopped making clubs. They were doing well.

When I can play consistently with those I might change but better to spend £££ on lessons and range balls! when i first started my career in golf back in 2010 as a first assistant club pro, i was able to get on staff with nike fairly soon after i started. up until that point, i had never played with a single piece of nike equipment. i was a mizuno irons, callaway woods, vokey wedges guy growing up as a kid and through high school and college. i was pleasantly surprised when i went through my original fitting with my regional rep. at first it wasnt easy looking at a full bag of nike clubs after playing with virtually one brand my whole life. i stayed on with them up until 2016 when they decided to move on from making equipment and eventually went on staff with taylormade/adidas. one thing i will say about being on staff with nike, they DEF treated their staff pro's the right way. i got anything and everything i wanted under the sun. all new clothes (6+ pairs of pants, 10+ shirts, rain gear), shoes (4 pairs) , balls (like 30 boxes of balls), all weather gloves (10 packs), staff bag and of course equipment EVERY year. i eventually started giving clubs and clothes and bags away because i just had so much of everything 🤣. i got out of the golf business in 2018. i went back to playing my vapor pro combo irons after i got out and im still playing with them and ill bust out the original taylormade p770 every once in a while!

Took my stunning looking Nike V forged blades out of the bag last year and put some new P790s in. The Nikes are back in now. I’d rather shoot a couple of shots more per game and have the sound and feel of the ball fizzing off the blade, than an unsatisfying feel of the P790s. I’m not playing for my mortgage, so why not play a set of irons that you have to work harder at, but bring so much reward when you catch the sweet spot

It wasn’t really the sales that kicked them out of the equipment side, it was the cost of research and development that shallowed that bottom line. Margins were thinner, and an already saturated market made it tougher to compete.

I currently play nike vr pro cavity irons, with a method core mci3 putter, vr str8fit 3 wood, vrpro 3H, and I have a broken vrpro str8fit 9.5° driver. I love my set, they're like my children. For the first time in years I'm golfing alot again and I'm so glad I invested in these nearly 13 years ago.

I'm still playing the Nike VR-S Covert 2.0 Forged irons to this day. I'll never get rid of them that's for sure! Soft as butter, good distance and plenty forgiving.

I still use nike clubs so underrated when they stopped every other manufacturer chambered to buy their plans and blueprints you look at most clubs nowadays and they all harp back to the vapor release of clubs they were miles ahead of the rest in new ideas to the market

My budy still plays with his nike set and his driver was starting to break at the addapter so I picked up a great nike vapor speed driver for him the blue and volt color way with a stiff tensei shaft and it's an amazing driver. Hit it the same as my sim2 max d driver I have .easy to hit and goes a long ways

I actually game Nike irons, it’s my dads set. Just picked up golf in May and I think they’re great and very forgiving. Also one of the best looking irons I’ve ever seen. Just ordered a set of takomo 101Ts for myself but still waiting on them to ship. I wonder if it will really make a difference I’m sure Nike irons were fine

I love NIKE as a brand. So when I first got into golf I went NIKE. I have Pro Combo irons. Still. The SQ Driver. 2 VR drivers. 2 Covert Drives. VR wedges and a Method putter. Just recently brought the irons back out to lay. But to old now and to slow a swing speed. Haha.

Bought vr split back irons a few years back and still use them. Don’t need to change any time soon. Got a Nike IC2 putter from one of my friends and its the best I’ve ever used. Good clubs. Not sure if they could get back in the game now without some massive investment. And I can’t see them doing that any time soon.

All but 3 of my clubs currently in my bag are Nike clubs( new in 2009). I have hit other brands but nothing feels as good as my Nike's. The Driver (SQ Dynamo round head with adjustable hossle) was so loud, when you hit a good ball everyone on the course knew it. I would buy a new set of Nike's right now if they were to make clubs again.
