Thanks for your reaction. If you remember the song: "What does the fox say", it was created and performed by the Ylvisaaker brothers. (Bård and Vegard).
"Kongen Befaler" literally means "The King Commands", but it's also the name of an old schoolyard game. Basically the Norwegian name of "Simon Says" but where the magic words are "Kongen Befaler" instead of "Simon Says"
That is a great name and way to name the show - recalling a childhood game. As an Englishman and passionate fan of Taskmaster I tip my hat to the Norwegians for that name.
@@GrayHatebornSure. But after the success of «Kongen Befaler» Norway got the rights to add the original «Taskmaster» but of course it got rebranded as «Kongen Befaler UK». I'm not a fan of that.
I was talking to a Norwegian friend about this, and I wouldn't worry too much about trying to copy their pronunciation. According to her, these people come from different parts of Norway and speak with vastly different dialects and accents, so it won't be consistent between contestants.
Don't see my hero Magnus Midtbø going on it 😁 Was going to write the only cool Norwegian i know but seems all his Norwegian guests have been people I'd like to chat to.
We just use the word dialects as more changes than just pronounciation so yeah loads of dialects. There is no standard for spoken norwegian it might be the largest hurdle to a foreigner trying to learn our language
Atle Antonsen, the Task Master, was the lead in a TV show called Dag, about a marriage guidance counsellor. A very dark, dark comedy. Shown in the UK a few years back, with subtitles. You might want to check it out, if you can.
Please do one more season!⭐️ This is my fifth time watching this series. Your videos make it feel like a whole new season🤩 Season two is hilarious! Love from Norway 🇳🇴
Kongen Befaler - "The King Commands" , is the name the Norwegians use for the game we call 'Simon Says', so it's an established phrase in that way. I really like this incarnation of the show because it feels like it retains the spirit of the UK original, but does not directly replicate it. They also come up with new and interesting tasks.
I like the "walrus" style of the Taskmaster. He seems to be able to say a lot without words, just a look at the contestants or a little grimacing. The tears task was in the series with Romesh, I remember some chilli sauce in his eyes to make him tear up.
Quick explanation of Bård's tricycle disqualification. In Norwegian it's not just that tricycle translates to "stepping bike", the action of pedalling on a bike is translated to "stepping". So in Norwegian terms it makes sense to say he stepped on the red circle :)
the waffle is formed like hearts is normal in Norway, and thank you in Norway Takk or Tusen Takk which means "1000 thanks", but when we are being polite we can say Hjertelig which means "heartly"
Glad to see you enjoying this series so much already. It's one of my favourites. Someone else mentioned it online that Vegard & Bård Ylvisåker (who are brothers) were the guys behind the old viral video What Does the Fox Say. So I did actually know of those two. But apart from that I didn't know anyone, but still found them immensely entertaining. Maria especially I find funny. Atle the Taskmaster is perfect, has the good balance of intimidating and jolly.
The author Roald Dahl was born in Wales to Norwegian parents, Norwegian was his first language. And Roald Amundsen was a famous explorer and first to the south pole.
He's always some of the first literature Welsh kids are introduced to (or was when I was growing up) which I loved because his writing always had a weird duality of the jovial and the sinister haha
Love ALL your reactions related to taskmaster, as I've seen 'em all. But I as a Norwegian is thrilled that you are reacting to this series to! Niiiice. The Norwegian format is just the same as in UK, 10 episode series.
For the bike thing. No, not quite. a tricycle is "trehjulssykkel". tråsykkel/trøsykkel (stepping bike) is a collective term for human-powered bikes in general. That said, the main reason I think he was disqualified was that it would be funnier that way.
The "Heart." subtitle is a clear giveaway that the person who write the subtitles needs a little bit of work on their English :p The Norwegian phrase is "Hjertelig." which literally translates to "Heartily", and means "My heartfelt thanks", but since that sounds very formal I think most translators would have opted for "Much appreciated", which is used in English in the same way/spirit as the Norwegian phrase is.
Re: the "stepping bike" The task said "Du kan ikke trå innenfor sirkelen." which translates to "No treading inside the circle". As we see play out, "trå", treading, is used both for stepping and for pedalling. It can seem harsh and arbitrary when you have to translate, but since the same word is used for both acts in Norwegian it was actually pretty easy for a Norwegian-speaker to spot the disqualification potential there. If he had spent 30 seconds prior to his attempt, he could have realised the risk.
Fun fact: The Taskmaster's assistant, Olli Wermskog, is Finnish. He was born in Finland and still speaks Finnish fluently, which was shown in one of the more recent episodes.
I've watched the first couple of seasons of Kongen Befaler on RUclips. I love it! It's very faithful to the Taskmaster formula and has some kickass contestants.
Maria is my spirit animal. She shows up to every shoot and is like can I eat this? I have not eaten today so surely I should be able to eat this right?
Just a few minutes in and already excited about this because I recognise the brothers from Ylvis.. They are hilarious.. Most people know them from the song "what does the fox say?" but I love the prank show they have. One of the funniest things they did was drive in a small electric car to buy McDonald's.. But not a drive thru.. They literally drove the electric car into a mall and pulled up inside the McDonald's
Tricycle in Norwegian is trehjulsykkel (Three wheel bike). Stepping bike is just an other word for bike, although it's not commonly used. When Olli (the assistant) said heart, it's was supposed to be translated as thanks from my heart, or something like that. Bård and Vegard are the brothers who made the song what does the fox say.
Thor Heyerdahl and Roald Amundsen were Norwegian explorers you might have heard of, and maybe also the author Knut Hamsun as well as the artist Edvard Munch (who painted The Scream) and the composer Edvard Grieg (who composed In The Hall Of Mountain King). And Henrik Ibsen who wrote A Doll House and Peer Gynt (the latter of which In The Hall Of The Mountain King was composed as incidental music for one of the "scenes"). As for more moden Norwegians, Im not sure. The current head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, is Norwegian (and was prime minister of Norway as well). Current chess number 1 and world champion Magnus Carlsen is Norwegian More popular culture related there's Kristoffer Hivju who played Tormund Giantsbane in Game Of Thrones. And of course the group A-Ha (who did Take On Me). And female singer in Aqua (Barbie Girl) is also Norwegian, even though it's really a Danish group. Obviously there are many more who are famous in Norway, but Im not sure who else would be recognisable internationally edit: oh yeah and of course the Ylvisåker brothers, aka Ylvis, who are in this episode and gained international, errm, notoriety for the viral hit What Does The Fox Say
I was surprised to find that I knew 3 out of the 5 contestants! The two brothers from Ylvis and Calle from Raske Menn. I think you'll enjoy this version, it's very similar to the original and I found the contestants all to be good sports.
World famous people from Norway (which are still relevant) that I can think of: Current world chess champion: Magnus Carlsen Authors: Knut Hamsun, Jo Nesbø, Sigrid Undset Famous footballers (soccer) : Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Jon Arne Riise, Erling Braut Haaland, Martin Ødegaard Music: A-ha (Morten Harket), Kygo, Matoma, Alan Walker, Nico & Vinz And of course Bård and Vegard who ar contestants in this season of Kongen Befaler :)
If noone told you yet, you might have seen Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker before. They are brothers, and are more commonly known as the comedic duo Ylvis,. They went pretty viral a few years ago with the song "What does the fox say?"
I love this version! I feel like it really captures the feel of the original. Really solid contestants this season too! I definitely think it's on par with New Zealand for best non-uk versions. Series 4 of this is acctually one of my favourite series of taskmaster in general. Looking forward to watching this again with you! :D
I think there is a double meaning of the word for "step" in Norwegian, so it can mean both to step and to pedal. It's certainly that way in Swedish at least.
Omg I recognise that wire head! I went to see an exhibition by that artist last year. Wasn't my favourite, but what do I know? Subtitles didn't mess with comedic timing as much as I expected - oddly, found myself reading the words, but then laughing when they finished the sentence
That was great, and I look forward to getting to know the contestants more! Side note, I got the Taskmaster board game for Christmas and it's such fun. Though we haven't played any outside bits yet, roll on summer!!
So glad you are doing this version, in my opinion it has the second best Taskmaster and third best assistant. Maria is one of my favourite contestants out of every Taskmaster version and season. I hope you continue it, I am hoping to see you react to a specific task where i forgot in which episode it was.
Its not called a stepping bike! We dont translate tricycle to stepping bike. I think the thing he used is a kind of bike we use in Norway called tråsykkel. Which is translated to stepping bike
Love to see the format being replicated so closely. I’m guessing the UK version is available to watch in Norway. Pleased to see the loopholes-what I call lateral thinking tasks. And what makes a good lineup for me is where can see all the contestants getting stuck into the tasks and playing along in the spirit of the game. 👍
I found your channel last week and I'm loving all these panel show reactions. The only non-UK Taskmaster I stuck with and finished, it's great! Can't wait to see your reactions.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is a pretty famous Norwegian by default scoring the winner for Manchester United vs Bayern Munich in the Champions league final in dramatic circumstances.
I remember trying to watch this right when it came out, before there were subtitles. I thought that I, as a Swede, would be able to understand it. That's what we're famous for - understanding each other! However, I found it really hard to keep up with so it was nice to have a rewatch now with the subtitles on. I might have to check out more of the episodes on my own if subtitles are available. I'm also looking forward to the new season of Sweden's Taskmaster. While our attempts at QI and Would I Lie To You? have floundered a bit, our Taskmaster has really found its place and I think it's the fifth or sixth season that's starting now. It's a great watch if you feel like it after Norway's run.
This was so great! I really hope you keep reacting to Kongen befaler. Below is my off-the-top-my-head list of famous Norwegians: Edvard Munch [painter of "The Scream" etc.] Edvard Grieg [composer of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" etc.] Trygve Lie [first Secretary-General of the UN] Fridjof Nansen [known for the Nansen passport among other things] Roald Amundsen [leader of the first expedition to reach the South Pole] Roald Dahl (we like to claim him as out own, at least) [author of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" etc.] Karl Ove Knausgård [author known for the "My Struggle" book series] Jo Nesbø [writer of criminal fiction] Gro Harlem Brundtland [politician known for the Brundtland Commission and the Brundtland Report] Thorbjørn Jagland [Secretary General of the Council of Europe 2009-2019] Jens Stoltenberg [Secretary General of NATO 2014-2022] Kristofer Hivju [played Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones] Ingrid Bolsø Berdal [played Armistice in Westworld] Kygo [DJ] Alan Walker [DJ] Åge Sten Nilsen [lead singer of glam band Wig Wam, known for songs "In My Dreams" and "Do Ya Wanna Taste it"] Alexander Rybak [winner of the Eurovision Song Contest] Christian Ingebrigtsen [member of boy band A1, known for songs "Caught in the Middle" and "Don't Wanna Lose You Again"] Morten Harket [lead singer of synth band A-ha, known for the song "Take on Me" and "The Sun Always Shines on T.V."] Kurt Nilsen [winner of World Idol] Lene Nystrøm [lead singer of pop group Aqua, known for the song "Barbie Girl"] Astrid S [singer] Aurora [singer] Dagny [singer] Sigrid [singer] Julie Bergan [singer] Lene Marlin [singer of "Unforgivable Sinner" and "Sitting Down Here"] Maria Mena [singer]
As a Norwegian, I definitely recommend the finnish version as well as the norwegian one. Both seem to be able to put their own spin on the show whilst keeping very close to the original.
I’m only 3:35 into the video but is that THREE people from Ylvis ??? I missed most of the rope task because I was frantically googling because Bård looked different to what I remember from however long ago WTFS Came out lmao
Knocking out the center roll of the string was what I thought of IMMEDIATELY. You had ten minutes to inspect it and see how loose it might be, and any points of potential removal. Balls of string like that that I've seen before usually have something like a cardboard center, like a toilet paper tube. That would be extremely doable. Both the tears and the sweat were done in the UK version - tears in Series 1, sweat in Series 3. Both times, they were won by someone getting the required secretions from other people in the room - camerapeople, boom operators, etc. That "stepping bike" thing can be seen as unlucky, but phrasing and technicalities are such an intrinsic part of the Taskmaster experience, really. Without them, you can't get the loophole attempts in the first place. I like the Kongen's temper, I think anger is such a crucial component of the role, the ability to chew someone out. Olli is definitely closer to being Paul than he is to being Alex, but that has value, as each country's version of the show brings a bit of the country itself into it.
And, just to add to that. Carl/Karl is the Scandinavian version of Charles. i.e. English Kings named Charles are called Carl in Scandinavia, while Swedish Kings named Carl are called Charles in English.
I think Vegard is like a level above everyone just because of his "survival" skills (I think he has a military training, if I am not wrong) - almost the same as Jukka Hildén in the Finnish Taskmaster. Nevertheless, I don't understand why there was no one getting the waffle maker outside the green just by using its cord.
They probably wanted to avoid seating the brothers together (Vegard and Bård from Ylvis, who did What does the fox say) since they have the same last name 🤔
12:32 1. That is a classic norwegian vaffle, the shape, and btw they arent crispy like a.erican ones. 2. We would never have a waffle for breakfast that is more an american thing.
I think you've possibly got to get used to the king and minion. Was funny & finding out it's a stepping bike amused. Tasks were good string was so funny, as an ex cyclist I was screaming down shift (change gear to low) and cycle down the rd after tying end to a post. Was fun want more.
I quite liked this, they tried to make it feel, in atmosphere, as close to the British version as they could, I don't like it when they mess with the format and the tasks we're original, I don't recall seeing them anyway, also unlike the American version, no annoying contestants.
Hearth. Weird translation of hjertelig, which is essentially a shortening of hjertelig takk which is something along the lines of a heartful thank you.
@@icturner23 haha yes that is true.. I actually didn't watch the whole reatcion before commenting. But I thought his pronounciation of kongen befaler was pretty good.
Their Alex isn't quite as cheeky as the original (unlike the NZ guy, who's perfect) but their Greg is pretty good. He's got that combo of stern looking big guy, mixed with naughty little boy.
The translations seems to be made from ai or something. They translate things right, except every joke and pun, that seems to confuse the translator. I don't think our Norwegian version is as funny as the English original, but, it's a shame they couldn't have done a better job with the subtitles to at least get the jokes across.
In the Danish one even some of the jokes are stolen from the British one. Down to the taskmaster getting a piece of land in Scotland so he can be called a lord.
It sounds like your TV has some overscan, and that's why you can't see the subtitles. The translation is at the very bottom of the picture, and some TVs will zoom in a little bit, and shave off a couple of percent of the edges of the image.

Morten Harket [lead singer of synth band A-ha, known for the song "Take on Me" and "The Sun Always Shines on T.V."]
Kurt Nilsen [winner of World Idol]
Lene Nystrøm [lead singer of pop group Aqua, known for the song "Barbie Girl"]
Astrid S [singer]
Aurora [singer]
Dagny [singer]
Sigrid [singer]
Julie Bergan [singer]
Lene Marlin [singer of "Unforgivable Sinner" and "Sitting Down Here"]
Maria Mena [singer]
Ironically, the lead singer of A-ha, Morten Harket, just recently competed in the UK edition of The Masked Singer.
The Finnish one is very similar in presentation with the unique of having a female Alex who is great Finnish version defiantly worth a watch
As a Norwegian, I definitely recommend the finnish version as well as the norwegian one. Both seem to be able to put their own spin on the show whilst keeping very close to the original.
I found the format of the Finnish one in the studio not quite there
The assistant, the house and the tasks were good though
She's wonderful!!!
I’m only 3:35 into the video but is that THREE people from Ylvis ???
I missed most of the rope task because I was frantically googling because Bård looked different to what I remember from however long ago WTFS Came out lmao
Two from Ylvis and their sidekick Calle Hellevang-Larsen from the show I kveld med Ylvis (Tonight with Ylvis)
FYI.. 8 out of 10 cats does countdown s22e04 has the third installment of Carrot in A Box with Jon and Lee Mack
Watched it last night, I could not have been happier :)

Hei, Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker are the brothers who made and sang What does the fox say
In Scandinavia, 'Calle' is to 'Carl' what 'Charlie' is to 'Charles'.
And, just to add to that. Carl/Karl is the Scandinavian version of Charles. i.e. English Kings named Charles are called Carl in Scandinavia, while Swedish Kings named Carl are called Charles in English.
The host (taskmaster) Its The funniest man in Norway!
This is such a good series 🇳🇴 👍😂🇬🇧
yay! been waiting for this, and I love your norwegian pronounciation, very sing-songy 10/10
Pronunciation was not too bad. 10/10 for a first attempt.
Didn't Rhodd stick hot sauce in his eyes to get tears
I think Vegard is like a level above everyone just because of his "survival" skills (I think he has a military training, if I am not wrong) - almost the same as Jukka Hildén in the Finnish Taskmaster.
Nevertheless, I don't understand why there was no one getting the waffle maker outside the green just by using its cord.
@@icturner23 i thought of that too, but i think the string would quickly become tangled in the saw or angle grinder.
The first thing that strikes me is the order of the contestants...are they not sat alphabetically, or am I missing something?
They are definitely not alphabetical. Not by first name or last. So I think the producers just wanted to split up the brothers and maybe go boy-girl?
They probably wanted to avoid seating the brothers together (Vegard and Bård from Ylvis, who did What does the fox say) since they have the same last name 🤔

1. That is a classic norwegian vaffle, the shape, and btw they arent crispy like a.erican ones.
2. We would never have a waffle for breakfast that is more an american thing.
3. The "heart" comes from the waffle as its devided into heart shaped pieces.
I think you've possibly got to get used to the king and minion. Was funny & finding out it's a stepping bike amused. Tasks were good string was so funny, as an ex cyclist I was screaming down shift (change gear to low) and cycle down the rd after tying end to a post. Was fun want more.
Henrik Ibsen is/was fairly famous
Taskmaster: Atle Antonsen
Assistant: Olli Wermskog
NZ taskmaster: Jeremy Wells 💪
Norway version is great
Title should have been "Neiled It!"
if you have heard The Fox by Ylvis they are from norway
My eyes are streaming just thinking of the 'tears task' Their eye's must have been so sore.
The f++k winter olympisk, like Norway dont have the most Olympik gold medals in history, they got more gold than every other combined
Any chance you could react to David Mitchell's Outsiders at some point?
I do polls on my Patreon for what shows I should react to. I'll definitely include it as an option when I'm looking for my next UK show.
@@NeilTalks thanks! I'll be on the lookout for it 🤗
I just noticed that your thumbnail has the lineup from series 2 instead of series 1 (yes Calle and Maria are in both seasons)
Thank you! This kind of stuff drives me nuts (Bad Reactor!) and it's now fixed, much to my relief.
This Taskmaster looks a little like Kenneth Mars
RUclips should do blind translation speaking mode
I quite liked this, they tried to make it feel, in atmosphere, as close to the British version as they could, I don't like it when they mess with the format and the tasks we're original, I don't recall seeing them anyway, also unlike the American version, no annoying contestants.
Hearth. Weird translation of hjertelig, which is essentially a shortening of hjertelig takk which is something along the lines of a heartful thank you.
Are you planning on going back to NZ S1? This is a great season btw. Maria & Calle were in S2 as well , & both and delightfully insane
Wow this is great! "Kongen befaler" literaly means "the King commands" aka simon says.. Btw Your pronounciation is very good.
@@icturner23 haha yes that is true.. I actually didn't watch the whole reatcion before commenting.
But I thought his pronounciation of kongen befaler was pretty good.
"Kongen befaler" is just our name for "Simon says". Literal translation "The king commands".
Ole, Man u player and manager
Haarland
An abomination of contestant ordering. Why are they not in alphabetical order like the UK?!?!
Because it doesn't matter!
@@sierraromeoromeo2444 pffft. It does!
@@mentaldavethefirst No, it only matters in your head, and the rest of us don't live there, thank fuck!
Their Alex isn't quite as cheeky as the original (unlike the NZ guy, who's perfect) but their Greg is pretty good. He's got that combo of stern looking big guy, mixed with naughty little boy.
React to taskmaster sweden
I want to try to learn Norwegian from watching these. It won't work because I'm terrible at languages, but it'll be fun to try.
Shame the.way you have the program Mon the bottom right it cut off the translation
It wasn’t cut off for me.
It sounds like your TV has some overscan, and that's why you can't see the subtitles. The translation is at the very bottom of the picture, and some TVs will zoom in a little bit, and shave off a couple of percent of the edges of the image.
Please don't watch the Swedish one. It's just awful.
Edit: Fleksnes is the most famous Norwegian.
Is it just the USA who are incapable of translating this TV series? 🤔
I've heard that the Spanish one is terrible too. And the German version was never even aired - so that's not exactly a good sign.
