I decided to make an Ayanokouji analysis, today in this video I'm going to be analyzing up to what we know about him and where he is in the story. plus things you may have not known about him and the series itself - classroom of the elite. I’m glad someone else has noticed what I noticed.. I saw a lot of people complaining about how his face doesn’t change much in the anime vs the expressiveness in the books.. but when you read those lines in the books, you realize the anime is just portraying how everyone else is seeing him.

Watched the first episode and looks good so far. They did use planets instead of chinese zodiac in the zodiac exam, but that's understandable since people in the west might not be familiar with chinese zodiac

Not to mention suko's temper and horikita's ignorance on team work. Hence Koji pushes everyone(not only suko and horikita) to better themselves, as he knows the only way to defeat himself(ayanokoji) is if all of them work together.

I’ve come to noticed that words always tend to get left out or misinterpreted/misunderstood when translations occur so it’s hard to assume everything read is 100% accurate when reading a “fan made” English translation. Especially when a translation comes out super early like the y2v7 one. I’ve read two English translations already to see if there are any differences.

I haven’t read the LN’s so maybe its more explicit there, but I find the paradox of him being utterly competitive yet wanting to be beaten very satisfying. This concept on its own ofcourse isnt new, but his personality, and philosophy in comparison to his fathers is what makes it rather genius imo

My take on him is that he is split between the desire to be free and the desire to win. I foresee Ayano becoming more empathetic and wanting to discover his personality through discovering what it is to connect with people. He clearly has little personal worth in happiness, but I hope the story will build up the positive side to the coin of being born unequally in this world - that they joys of life are valuable. It does not overpower being manupulated or having things taken from you, thus a desire for power and to “win” will always be there, but you do not have to be a genius to be satisfied in the aspects of your life. This could be seen as the duality of intellect, of the nature of the human psyche
A bit of an analysis
About the two personas(the white room and the normal teenager)
The purpuse of the first persona was to in the grand scheme of things is to protect the fragile child that ayanokoji was. Early on he maybe wanted to impress his father, but it didnt matter to him, he saw other Children fall many times,it probably hurt him more then anyone could even know, seeing your peers at such a young age being disposed of, from that he wanted to stop the crying, the pain, the suffering he goes through on a daly basis, he was in a world without hope and in order to survive he began to see others as tools, because if they mean nothing to him even they disapear it wouldnt hurt him, he became a hearless monster because his heart was to weak to take the emotional damage so he sacrifficed it because if he didnt he would not have survived
He realized himself what he was becoming he is fully aware of it, he escaped the white room for more that just curiosity, but he wanted what was robbed of him back, a life he never had
Ayanokoji just wants one thing at the end of the day, to be human, to cry, to be happy, to truly care about someone, he just want to feel something because in the white room he simply exsited
That is the purpuse of the second persona, to connect with others, but it didnt work, both horikita and chabashira just wanted to use him at point in time, he could never connect with those around him because he was so different from them
He helps in both volumes but why, i just think he dosent want to relive his trauma, to see someone disposed so early on
But in vol 4 he makes his first true connection, for the first time in his life he could have someone who was similar to him, that being kei.
Even tho je could have used her like pawn he makes it a partnership, he did say i act on your behav you act on mine.
He said that if his exsitence can bring her healing that that was worth something, he helps her more that he even needs to, but why? It is simple, kei was one or two steps away from becoming like him, broken to the point where you care about nothing, he didnt want that to happen.
In vol 7 he saves her, he also felt somethig and maybe even his face changes, because he said no emotions 'should' be seeping out, meaning something might have seept out, he makes an unneccery deal with manabu to fight nagumo, why so he and kei could have their partnership again he didnt want to lose her, he wanted her by his side
Think about it, ayanokoji the one who puts self-preservation above else, his freedom above else trows it away without a second thought for kei, that says something
bro the fact that he made progress, that he found someone like him(kei at her braking point) and helped her it's kinda awesome makes you think maybe he can become more human afterall, i think just by doing all that he did

*I see many people still think ln Ayanokoji is expressionless. It's a common misunderstanding.*
*In anime he doesn't show any emotions but in light novel the expression on his face does change.*
*Him being described as doll-like doesn't mean has absolutely no emotions. Horikita is descibed in the same way and we know for a fact she shows emotions.*
*He isn't very expressive but there are moments where he has shown expressions. In voulme 1 for example there are numerous instances of Horikita knowing what he thinks depending on his expression. In the swimming pool scene she even comments on his facial expression.*
we all know that ayanokoji is a bad person (even with a deep past) but we want him to win because he's so fucking badass

I feel like the author saw the large amount of dull op everyman's who just want a peaceful life, but are trouble magnets just because and thought "I can do better."
So in Monogatari style he took a basic trope and figured out how an actual person with that personality would function and how and they came to be to be that way. Followed a long character arc in which they go from trope to person.
Feel like I saw some Monogatari text screens in the vid too.

What I’ve always disliked about some of the translations and also interpretations from a lot of fans is the perception of his emotions. Saying he doesn’t feel emotions and that’s he basically a cold, perfect machine really bothers me and is frankly just incorrect.
He may THINK that he can’t feel anything and that he doesn’t have emotions because that’s how he was raised and the behavior that was taught to him. He doesn’t even consider that he may be able to feel things because he doesn’t know how the things feel.
That is why I love the rooftop scene in volume 7 where he asks himself what his face might look like in the moment he was hitting Ryuen and us seeing the illustration along with that monologue.

Sadly he is not lying or more he doesn’t know he is, some is translation loss and some of it is the white room instinct which isn’t him and why the grab at the start happened in the first place is his that his white room instinct didn’t get kicked in until he got threatened with expulsion and why he is so put out on winning ( opinion)

Some criticism. As someone who has only watched the first season and the 5 newest episodes of season 2, it'd be nice with a proper introduction about who this video is for and what it's about. Whether or not there are going to be spoilers etc.
While it's beautifully edited and you include all the right elements (source text or relevant images) everything is going a little bit too fast. But again, I think a simple introduction or a summation of what the point of, what you're currently analyzing, is.

Yep the title is true! It shed a light on how you could see Ayanokoji as.
I just wanna share that this is kinda similar to the Polgar Sisters. Their story isn't as hardcore as Kiyotaka's or something, but just on the "nature vs nurture" part. Their parents wanted to prove that "geniuses can be made". They were chess players (forgot if it's just their dad or both tho). They aren't that strong nor that weak of players themselves. So what they did was to create stories with chess pieces as characters and read it to their oldest daughter. They tried different things to make their oldest interested in chess. As their oldest learned to play, they coached her and helped her become strong at chess. Their oldest started winning different tournaments against older than her.
They wanted their other daughters to be interested to something else as to prove their method. However, both of her sisters got into chess as well. The three of them became strong chess players and became well known to such a male-dominated game.
Just an additional thought. Children being nurtured and considered as "prodigies" could be seen in the musical world as well. Unfortunately few of them ended up hating to play their instrument as on how they were forced to learn them. Still, it is definitely a joy to watch different prodigies playing "monstrously" and magnificently while enjoying it to the fullest.

Before I watched the anime, I thought it would be like all anime in that the protagonist would have to face a truly difficult task and struggle, but that’s not the case at all. Ayanokoji is in complete control of his environment and the people around him. He’s the one pulling the strings, not the others. I’d say he’s the true antagonist of the story in a way
The good thing is even if he loses it will be at the end of 3rd year so it wont really matter. The only way for him to lose is if the entire school gangs up on him or if somebody really sneakily betrays him.

@@theabyss9016 pre sure cause officials didn't mistranslate certain parts, I wondered that too.
There are instances though in the light novel that tells us that Ayanokouji portrays a certain expression when doing an act to give the right impression depending on certain situations, which makes sense to me, like in situations he wants to be intimidating, unlike in the anime which is always is a deadpan expression. Or is that also just the way he narrates himself doing in his monologues?

Ayanokoji defeated himself, you will stop yourself from being angry/sad... When you become aware of the particular emotion yet ayanokoji just announced his old belief in vol 3 "everything i do is to benefit myself"
He fabricated a persona to dump his old belief, he is divided into two pieces, "i want normal life" and the white room teaching, him manipulating his surroundings so he can make them grew blossomed from his selfish desire to find stronger opponents, him dating is just a way to understand love, he may care about the others to an extent but that was out of numerous factors : his persona, his curiosity, the effects of being surrounded by normal humans filled with emotions
I would have to disagree about the dating part. It's quite obvious in the light novels that he actually has feelings for kei and doesn't just date her to learn about love, he just struggles to understand his own feelings because he was deprived of love and affection his entire life. sure it's a part of it but he stated before he wouldn't date someone he doesn't have feelings for. also from volume 7 on it becomes apparent that he doesn't view her as just a tool anymore, hence he saves her and renews their partnership after previously ending it when the threats are gone after volume 7 despite his dad not being in the picture *yet*. I would recommend you watch a video covering volume 7.5 by Saadisfy that really explains him and kei's feelings development to each other and why he would eventually date her and not someone like Sato, The buildup to his relationship with her was really well made.

Basically calling them inferior, I was happy to see he loves Kei before this but now Idk anymore tbh, he might even be a literal alien

I have a feeling that horikita will fight ayanokoji for the survival of the class. He's a ticking bomb, if he decides to destroy his class he can do it this is why horikita is slowly distancing herself unknowingly but still tries to establish mutual benefits with him. Ayanokoji himself tries to help horikita discover her bwst self so he can defeat her. I dont think he will end up with kei because of his socio/pyscho tendency. If the author decides to make some character development on him then hopefully he has change of heart. I simply think that character like ayanokoji can either change or not. If he's the latter then the changes you see on the outside will eventually become a lie once you read his monologue that's how unreliable he is. Of course i wish he's not a psychopath or smth, i hope its only his personality
Except you completely misunderstand his character. he's not a sociopath or a psychopath. He has a personality disorder which causes him to develop another persona as a defense mechanism. they are completely different from each other. the only time he acts this way is when he's feeling threatened which is why we only see that ''side'' of him by the end of volume 3 after his teacher threatened him. It all developed from pretty severe childhood trauma. His point is not to defeat horikita necessarily, he looks for someone to challenge and prove wrong his father's ideology which is why he promotes growth in the other students, especially the class leaders who are usually most capable, Otherwise he won't be able to let go of it himself. Also through the time in the school he slowly learns who is he as person outside the white room when he doesn't have to use his defense mechanism and a lot of people miss that.
I don't know where his character arc will end, but I hope for him he will eventually find peace and will be able to get out of his father's and his ideologies hold on him, and maybe eventually find out what is his true will.
