Sue Dyer is the author of the book “The Trusted Leader”, which is simply amazing. If we use the Iceberg model of change (events/transactions, patterns, structure, vision and mindset) as a model for assessing our depth of thinking, Sue’s book covers all levels of change using the Leadership paradigm, not Management. By listening others interviewing Sue one could sense some sort of mental fuse blowing up, a very brief yet ackward pause, caused by the lack of deep thinking. Sue provides a really simple difference between Management (win/lose) and Leadership (win/win ie Partnering approach or lose/lose). Some authors/bloggers even talk about leadership style which should be called management styles unless put in the context of Situational Leadership or growth. The video did not mention few other important parts of leadership: transparency, clarity, atmosphere of trust, collective intelligence, no leaders without followers i.e. “some leaders did bad things whilst some managers did great things” confuses labels/titles with their meanings. Please read John Maxwell’s 5 levels of leaders. Leadership and Management are two very different paradigms. Leadership is about wholes, Management is about parts. Today’s Management systems (Project, Change, Process, Risk etc) all serve some higher entity called “the senior management”. As they wrote in the book “The Blue Ocean Strategy” all those management systems are tactics which do not add up to be called a business strategy (whole). However, if you still liked the video enjoy the Management confusion.

If you check any introduction to management textbook you will see that there are four functions of management:
Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. I use the mnemonic POLiCe to remember them in order.
Note that Leading is a subset of Management. Using this approach might remove some of the confusion about "which is more important - management or leadership?" Both are important. You won't be a good manager if you can't lead. However there are some leaders who can't manage because they don't either plan, organize, or control. So if you want to manage something, remember to do all four things or delegate some of it, but you still will need to manage the things you delegated to make sure they get done right.

      Thanks for your explanation.
I have objection partially on your point of view regarding Leadership.
A true Leader has no comparison with Manager. When a person is true leader then he would be fantastic manager otherwise he is not a leader at all.

You are the manager of an organisation. One of your staff, Johnny, recently left. Johnny had been with the organisation for 3 years and was always happy, helpful and worked well with the team. You recruit Samantha to replace Johnny. Samantha does not have a lot of experience but she is making an effort to fit-in and contribute.
Alan, the team leader, is not happy with Samantha. He is used to meeting his targets, but it is not easy with Samantha as it was with Johnny. As a result, Alan has been quite abrupt with Samantha in all communications, which is making Samantha very uneasy.
Johnny - 45 years old, male, Caucasian, 22 years of work experience
Alan - 43 years old, male, Caucasian, 12 years of work experience
Samantha - 31 years old, new immigrant from England, 3 months of work experience
QUESTION :- 2) In accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures, develop an action plan to help Alan address the difficulties he faces . WHO KNOW ANSWERS PLEASE let me know ANSWERS :-

Very interesting lesson. Thank you very much for that! From a psychological perspective I would concentrate on emotional intelligence. Being aware of our own emotions, emotions of people around us, being able to manage the emotions, empathy, motivation and social skills above all. This is what makes great leaders. Don’t you think?

Does management really is concerned about non-human things only ? I have doubts about it. As far as I know, the degree (depth) may not be the same, but management also has elements of humans.
