    Your video are really nice, I had a question whitch is kinda tricky. I use a digital mixer which is connectex to a router to be avle to controle it from my ipad. I was wondering i i could use that same router for the dmx to ethernet controler. I would use the same wifi to controle my mixer (from my mixer app) and my lightning (from the lightning app)? Will it work or would it interfer togetter?

    Great tutorial. How do you like controlling DMX on the iPad vs. a physical DMX board? Pros and Cons? Thanks again!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  4 года назад +5

      I really like running my rig with the iPad for these reasons:
      1) lots of flexibility in configuring fixtures
      2) Faster to program scenes and chases once you are up to speed with the app
      3) Small, lightweight, wireless control
      The reasons you might want to go with a simple hardware controller like an Obey 40:
      1) Simpler and easier to set up and use right out of the box
      2) Less expensive (after adding in router, interface and iPad)
      3) Benefit of physical buttons and faders
      If you are up for it, the iPad is really a better system. Appreciate you watching!

    Thank you so much for your videos. I am doing stage lighting for a school concert with no experience, and would literally be no where without this channel! One question though, if I had a eight light setup of Chauvet Slimpar 56s, would I go about controlling each light separately? Or say, making two groups of four that only do the same thing as the other lights in that group? What would I have to do in the hardware and the software? Thank you so much for these videos!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Год назад +1

      Hi and thanks for the kind words! By grouping more than one light on the same starting address you can simplify your programming but you lose some control. For example, you could set up 2 fixtures on your controller (with 2 different starting addresses) and set 4 of your lights to each one. The result would be that each "fixture" on the controller would actually be controlling 4 lights together. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching!

    And a question -- why turn off the "Dimmer" setting for the RGB dimmer values on the PAR64s? Thanks!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Geren- the Vibrio app says "A dimmer value determines which attributes will fade instead of snap when activated by a scene. Typically RGBWA or Dimmer attributes will use this feature"
      One would think it should be left on for the PAR64s but they only responded when I turned it off. Go figure :) Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the tutorial - I am just setting up a studio with some cheap lights from Amazon and controller - Issue is they don't hold there address once shut off they work great but have to manually address evertime. I love the idea of the wireless and the app set up am going to give that a shot. for sure. Not to be a bother but why do some lights from a DMX controller only work on the panel not from the first four sliders but from slider 5 6 7 ? Can you adjust that per fixture?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  4 года назад +3

      Hi- I was having a similar issue with my budget Slim PARS- it seemed that sometimes they remembered the addressing and sometimes they didn't. It was driving me crazy until I finally discovered this: If I had them under DMX control while I was setting the address they remembered it next time I turned them on, otherwise they would only remember temporarily. (hope that works for you)
      In answer to your second question, all the fixtures I have had have had their functions "hard wired" to a specific channel that couldn't be changed. And there is no standard between different fixtures so RED might be controlled on Channel 1 with Fixture X and on Channel 5 with Fixture Y. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @LearnLizard

      Hi- I think the Chamsys Magic Basic interface is a propriety USB to DMX dongle for PC's only. For under $30 thats pretty inexpensive. • @LearnLizard

      DMX is a pretty amazing system that can control up to 512 channels over those 5 little pins! So you could control more than 40, 12 channel lights. You can do it with hard cables or wirelessly with an Ethernet to DMX adapter like the Lightmouse. Appreciate you watching...

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  4 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words! Yes, the router "broadcasts" a WIFI signal that the iPad connects to (as if it were connecting to the internet) Then that router connects to your interface and converts the data to DMX. Hope that helps and good luck with your set up!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Год назад

      The iPad communicates with the router and interface wirelessly (it's actually the simplest and most cost effective way to set it all up) You could have a router and interface at each venue and just connect to that network with one iPad for each show (or of course have 4 iPads each with a duplicate show at each venue) Sounds like fun- would love to see video of a demo when you get it up and running!

    Would something like FlareCON from Chauvet work instead? For instance, would you be able to run a a DMX cable from your fixture to the FlareCON unit and then connect to that unit on your iPad?
    Thank you in advance and thank you for these videos!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  4 года назад

      Hi- I believe the FlareCON Air is a propriety system that works only with the hardware and software app from Chauvet. (it looks like Chauvet has discontinued it as well)
      An ethernet-to-DMX adapter like the eDMX1 Pro works with any DMX fixture and any app that supports Art-Net or sANC, such as Vibrio-- so its really a much more flexible system. Appreciate you watching!

      Thanks for the kind words! MYDMX GO is a similar system for wirelessly controlling DMX lights with an iPad. However ADJ uses a proprietary system where the iPad connects to their own hardware receiver and uses only their app. The advantage of setting up an open system is you have a variety of different apps to choose from.

      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "multiple rigs" but Vibrio can only control a single Universe of 512 channels. However, it will let you program as many "Shows" as you want, and each show can have its own set of fixtures, so you could custom program a show for each rig or setup that you use. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    I bought an Apple airport express 802.11n, an eDMX1 PRO unit, a three to five pin adaptor and I am trying to control a mini ledspot moving headlight using Vibrio, all of which I acquired after watching your videos aside from the light which I already had. My problem is, I’ve hit a dead end and even though my iPad is connected to Vibrio through the Airport, I’m not able to control the light through Vibrio. Can you please tell me, have I purchased the wrong items or what might I be missing regarding the connection settings? Maybe it’s a setting on the light I don’t have turned on? I’d appreciate any advice you might be able to give me. Thank you!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  4 года назад

      Hi- Yes you have all the correct gear to control your light (or any fixture with DMX capability)
      I assume that your airport express is creating a unique network that you are connecting to in your iPad Wi-Fi settings, and you see that same network name in the Vibrio Connection Status window? Have you created a new show in Vibrio and then a new fixture in that Show that matches your light? (same number of channels, etc.)
      I would then set that fixture profile to a starting address of 1 and make sure the starting address for your light is also set to 1. By default the light should be in DMX mode. Also make sure your ethernet cable goes from the eDMX1 to the LAN ethernet port on the airport express (marked with the 2 arrows)
      When you create a scene in that show and then go to edit and manipulate the controls, the light should react.
      If for some reason the eDMX pro and the airport express are not communicating properly, DMX King has really good tech support and should be able to get things working.
      Please let me know when you get everything up and running properly and thanks for watching!

    If I were using wireless receivers for my DMX lights, would I be able to plug the transmitter into the "ethernet to DMX converter" and run the lights wirelessly?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  2 года назад

      The wireless receivers I have seen are closed systems that I believe will only work with their own wireless transmitters. (Chauvet, ADJ, etc.) Think of an Ethernet to DMX box (with an attached router) as its own wireless receiver with the iPad as the transmitter. Lots of flexibility! Thanks for watching.

    For some reason when I load the fixtures for the Gigbar2 by Chauvet. i have no control of the lights. I have this set to d001 = either 3CH, 11CH or 24 CH tried all three.
    Would it be possible to have a helping hand if you’re available.?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  2 года назад

      Hi- First off, I'm assuming you have the Gigbar in DMX mode? For testing make sure it is set to a starting address of 001 and the Fixture you have created in Vibrio is set to 001 also. When you create a new scene and go to edit it, you should see faders. Make sure the 1st fader is selected and it should bring up RED on the first PAR (in 11 or 23 CH mode) If that isn't working try using another fixture to make sure the router is correctly connected to the interface. I had a few issues when I originally set up my eDM1 pro ( I had the ethernet cable plugged into the wrong port on the router) The tech support at DMXking was fantastic and they got me up and running. Also this video might help: ruclips.net/video/6TU_2ViTXCQ/видео.html
      Good luck and hope you are up and running soon!

      Yes thats partially correct. I have the moving head lights all set to the same address because 1) it simplifies the programming and the lights look good moving together, and 2) saves channels in the free version of Vibrio. @LearnLizard  4 года назад

      Do you have the fixture in 8 Channel DMX mode and the starting address of the physical fixture matching the starting address of of the virtual fixture you created? (assuming so) You can also try experimenting with turning the dimmer icon on and off to the right of each channel in the fixture you created. That worked when my PARS were acting finicky. The actual channels are functioning somewhat, dimmer doesn't seem to do anything, but I was able to create a few basic color scenes, add strobe, so I'll have to figure how to match the channels with the fixtures channel parameters in the manual. Can you do this with other apps because i can’t find this app in the app store

      Are you searching for "VIBRIO"? It still comes up as a current supported app in the app store when I checked today. If not there are several other alternatives with different strengths and weaknesses you can see listed here: ruclips.net/video/6TU_2ViTXCQ/видео.html
      Appreciate you watching

      Sam Gooding, hows that working out for you? I’m looking to move to using an app when possible. Just wondering how one would fair in an outdoor remote location? Seems like I’m just too comfortable using a controller because it’s what I know. Lol! Thanks!

    Can we use artnet instead of ethernet to dmx
    ?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Год назад

      The DMX to Ethernet device uses the router to create a network for devices or apps (like Vibrio) that use Artnet or sACN- so you need all of these things to make it work like in this video. Wish I could explain it better but it's all a bit like magic to me.

    My DMX lights only have 3 pin inputs. Can these lights be used ?

    • @LearnLizard

      Yes- 3 pin is the most common input. I used a 5-pin to 3-pin cable for the interface in this video (my lights also have 3-pin inputs) My new interface (eDMX1 pro) has a 3-pin out so all cables can be standard. Appreciate you watching!

    Those little $40 moving heads are great! I bought two of them some time ago.
