- Here's 15 of my personal favourite games for the original gameboy! I got a bit carried away so there's actually more like 30 games in this list! - Hence the name changed to top game series! I tried to include some well known classics as well as a few hidden gems for the console!
Links Awakening is not in the list because I didn’t play it until the DX version, which I will be including in my Best Gameboy Color games list in the future :)

The Game Boy has so many amazing games it was very hard to pick just 15 of the best game boy games!
For those wondering, I didn't include Zelda as I will be including the DX version in my Top Gameboy Coloraturas games video instead!

Gameboy description from Wikipedia:
The Game Boy is an 8-bit handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. The first handheld in the Game Boy line, it was first released in Japan on April 21, 1989, then North America, three months later, and lastly in Europe, nearly a year after. It was designed by the same team that developed the Game & Watch and several Nintendo Entertainment System games: Satoru Okada, Gunpei Yokoi, and Nintendo Research & Development 1.
Nintendo's second handheld game console, the Game Boy combines features from both the NES home system and Game & Watch hardware. The console features a dull green dot-matrix screen with adjustable contrast dial, five control buttons (a directional pad, two game buttons, and start and select), a 2-voice speaker with adjustable volume dial, and, like its rivals, uses cartridges as physical media for games. The color scheme is made from two tones of grey with accents of black, blue, and maroon. All the corners of the portrait-oriented rectangular unit are softly rounded, save for the bottom right, which is curved. At launch, it was sold either as a standalone unit, or bundled with the one of several games: Super Mario Land or Tetris among them. Several accessories were also developed, including a carrying pouch and printer.
Despite being technically inferior to its fourth-generation competitors (Sega's Game Gear, Atari's Lynx, and NEC's TurboExpress), the Game Boy received praise for its battery life and durability in its construction. It quickly outsold the competition, selling one million units in the United States within a few weeks. The Game Boy and its successor, the Game Boy Color, have sold an estimated 118 million units worldwide. It is one of the most recognizable devices from the 1980s, becoming a cultural icon in the years following its release. Several redesigns were released during the console's lifetime, including the Game Boy Pocket (1996) and the Game Boy Light (1998; Japan only). I absolutely love your display case, I might have said that many times before lol, but it is an amazing way to show off all those great GBA games. Recognizing how much you enjoy the Gameboy you´ve got my attention! Heartwarming to see a title like Bubble Ghost make the list! I´ve played some of these games, and some are games I wish to play some day. I´m looking for Bubble Bobble 2 since I love the series, I have yet to find a copy.

1.5 years late to the party but i'm really glad that i've found this video and your channel! been looking for channels with good game boy contents, and i had a blast catching up with your review and collecting videos. and my favourite was not even game boy related; it was your top 10 games video, which has a lot of a personal touch. i think it was the first time i saw a top-10 video where a visual novel made the list.

Keep the gameboy videos coming they are gold.My favourites it’s so difficult,as I love so many.But off the top of my head Super Mario bros 1 &2.Revenge of the gator,solar striker,battle toads,Tetris, but the difficulty is in that Those are titles I was lucky enough to have as kid,but now as an adult I’ve just been getting importing all these new titles including Pokémon (yes late bloomer)and heaps of random Japanese games which are really good,so I’m still discovering.Its great to be into gameboy with the ease of eBay etc today.

Great Recomendations. There are a few games here we have wanted to get for some time now and a couple you have inspired us to purchase.
Solar striker and bubble ghost seem to appeal to us, we've wanted kirbys dreamland and kirbys dreamland 2 for a while and mario land 1 we have wanted for a long time but never got round to a purchase but we do have Mario land 2, which we love. So again, great video! Thanks for the help!

Great list. Tetris is actually my #1 for the system. So simple, yet still so brilliantly addictive all these years later.
Excellent list mate all great titles! 😍 Dk94 is probably my favourite ever DMG game, so often criminally overlooked. I also love the first Mario Land I'll never get bored of replaying it. No love for Links Awakening though? 😮

Great list - glad i'm not the only one who likes the 1st Mario land best.
Just checked my 3ds and I have 123hrs on that game!!
I like to speed run it, but also see how many lives i can end up with (there is one manipulation where you can have as many lives as you want - but i don't do that.)
My 3DS tells me Links Awakening DX has 157hrs on it as well!! I had that original release and it's my favourite Zelda.
I can beat it without taking damage - which is not too bad to learn compared to a lot of other games.
I'm looking forward to
the upcoming Game and Watch which has the Original Links Awakening on it.

Wonderful list! My number one would have to be donkey Kong land 2, since donkey Kong country two is one of my favorite games ever. It’s amazing what they were able to do on the GameBoy!

Love Tetris so much to this day (, moved onto Tetris grand master), need to give Kirby some play time, always passed me by. Games u didn't include that i loved - gargoyles quest, rc pro am and balloon kid. Did you ever do a Gameboy color vid? Your wall collection looks so good! Thanks for the vid!

Solid selection there mate! However I am impressed that you didn't mention Link's Awakening and the Contra/Probotector series. Anyway Gameboy was always better than NES in my heart since I grew up with it and never had a NES. The library of the Gameboy is filled with great titles.
I love that you're a retro fan and a big retro Kirby fan. I ADORE the 90s Kirby games. Especially Super Star, Dreamland, Adventure, and Dreamland 2. Star Stacker, Dream course, Block Ball, and Pinball are amazing too. Kirby was really hitting it out of the park with impressive console entries and lots of great handheld titles.

Some excellent games on that list mate. I've only got a handful of FB games.... Definitely something I need to change.
Some great choices, Final Fantasy was one of my favs back then. Was desperate for a decent RPG like Zelda and sort of stumbled across it thinking it looked the same. Had no idea what it was but fast became the most played of my carts. I think I'm going to order a modded GameBoy, haven't played one in years!
Definitely look into getting a modded gameboy! They really do breath new life into the old system and games! :D

Some awesome games there and some I will check out. FF and Megaman are so expensive on the system. Could have slipped Kirbys pinball in with the Kirbys too. Any hidden gem recommendations?

Tetris Plus puzzle mode was very addictive, but even more than the game, its soundtrack was the best part!
I own that donkeykong land gb cartridge. It was one of my first gameboy color games :)
Hammering Harry, Batman, DOuble Dragon 1 & 2; Turtles 1 & 2... Good show. pls make more! (psp / vita /3ds / gbc/ gba etc...)
Kid Dracula and Bomb Jack are two of my favourites that I still play a lot today (with the rips v3 screen!)

My all time favourite game boy games are Monster Max, The Addams Family, Dragon's Lair, Kid Dracula, Mario's picross and Kirby's Pinball Land.

Tecmo Bowl (massive replay value. You can see why the NES games were so popular best sports game on the system)
Kirby's Dream Land (the 2nd quest was actually pretty challenging great ending)
Castlevania 2 Belmont's Revenge (The Music and stage select play control this game is fantastic)
Donkey Kong (Lots of replay value easy save system challenging puzzles)
Tetris (How many rocket launches can you get beating side B is a nice rewarding experience.)
Bionic Commando (Excellent play control, unique password, great countdown ending cool bosses the platform for Sigma in the Mega Man X games)
Metriod 2
Kid Icarus
Battletoads (hard as nails but very high replay factor)
Final Fantasy Adventure
F-1 Race
Super Mario Land 2
The Gameboy had a ton of great games for the little black and white little engine that could.

Pokemon Yellow is actually a GBC technically, but it was advertised as the last original GameBoy game for the system as a final hoorah for the legacy GB. If it wasn't for the custom cartridge color, Pokemon Yellow would be a black GameBoy game pak.

Unpopular opinion: the Super Mario Land sequels (especially SML2) are the greatest Mario games since SMB3 (NES/SNES)!

As a watcher of Fawful’s Minions’s lists of Pokemon Generations ranked from worst to best, I’d take the Mario games for the original GB over the Pokemon games of the same console any day!
Great video, but I disagree when you said that Kirby’s Dreamland 1 was not worth going back to. Still good list though!

You missed some of the best games, like The Hunt For the Red October, Boulder Dash and Super RC Pro-Am. Also the Batman game is quite good and Dr. Mario.

On his list I would play Metroid, Shadow Warrior, Kirby, Megaman, Tetris, Donkey Kong, Pokemon and Mario Land. The rest of the games don't interest me.

I want to like Donkey Kong on the GB because it's such a graphically intensive looking game on the console. The problem I have with it, is it just is sort of unplayable to me. The levels with heavy backgrounds are super messy and there's no separation with the character. Add ontop of that the original hardware has pretty heavy ghosting I don't know how kids played this in this 90s. Also the game's almost entirely blind jumps which isn't fun for anyone. It's not like Mario Land where there's a clear separation between walk-able tiles and background and you can see where you're going. To me it just seems like a port that was trying to hard to be similar to the original and it should have sacrificed more on the visuals to become more playable.
If you play it on a gameboy coloraturas or gameboy advance it ads colour to the sprites and a different colour to the backgrounds which makes it A LOT easier to play :D
@@RetroBreak Yeah I know about how the GBA separates the sprites from the background. Still the game's really hard to play on the original GB/GBL/GBP in my opinion. Still, it's a work of art honestly. I've made a gameboy game (Baunsudaun) so I know what goes into it and DKL is unreal how they managed to get the art in there.
I just ordered 108 in 1 game boy color games at amazon,bec its too hard to find a real Pokemon yellow,red and blue so why not buy that game that got all of them in one.
You know south park was going to be on gameboy color but after they finished the game they never released it

I spent way too much time as a kid trying to figure out the Final Fantasy Adventure 'palm tree and eight' puzzle!

I prefer the first Mario Land too. The excessive slowdown in the second game is annoying.
