I just learned about Dr. Ham through the Being Well podcast, and it’s so interesting knowing a bit about his approach to hear him try to answer questions in this disconnected, speed-dating-type Q&A format. I’ve been gathering information and trying to “figure it out” for years, obsessively consuming all of the self-help psychology material I can find. I’m so used to hearing these kinds of questions answered by clinicians in ways that offer broad theory, neuroscience explanations, and advice. Some of it has been helpful, but I’m still fundamentally not okay. There’s a lot of information about getting into the body, but in a way it’s still theory and bypassing on my part. Listening to Dr. Ham leaves me with more questions than answers, but at least the dissonance between having all of the information and still not being okay isn’t adding to my frustration. I don’t know how to proceed in unearthing and facing the overwhelming pain that’s buried and driving my behavior, but the relief from the dissonance is enormous.
Hello Dr. Ham, my name is Elliot, and I am a Korean-American counselor (LPC-Associate). I originally wanted to become a Protestant pastor but ended up a counselor. I heard you say that you are a contemplative who does trauma work. Likewise, I have a deep interest in both the Christian (Especially Eastern Orthodox) and the Buddhist traditions and want to apply what I learned from these contemplative traditions to my counseling work. I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if you would be so gracious to chat with me once? I learned about you reading What My Bones Know and have been following your channel and reading your recommended books ever since. Thank you so much for all the work you do. From my side, I feel like I have a role model I can look up to (I grew up and now practice in Texas so that's a strange coincidence as well).
Dr. Ham: What does “surrendering to the process” look like, feel like in an embodied way? We who have no experience with this experience need a few breadcrumbs through the dark forest of surrendering & feeling in my body rather than escaping into my head ❤🙏

I like you. This theory appeals to my inner child and makes me feel safe. I am getting outta my head!
