    Proprietary my ass - fishing reels have been using them for years... It's called a one-way roller bearing. The downside is that it cannot handle that much torque, versus the traditional gear and pawl. I own a Channellock version, and someone already mentioned that Kobalt (Lowes) version. Again, don't crank on these one-way roller bearings, as they will explode on you. I rarely use this ratchet. as I rely on my Gearwrench 120XP or Husky 144-position ratchets for tight quarters work. If you want someone different, check out the Stanley Rotator Ratchets in 1/4" and 3/8" versions, as their twist handle technology will blow these things out of the water - these Stanley Rotator Ratchets also run one-way roller bearings, so it does the same zero-degree motion...

    It’s a cam type set up inside. I’ve had a couple of these for years and sweat by them. After 38 years I know what I like and what I don’t, so go buy one of these today.
    I’m not affiliated with anyone at this show. as I don’t even know what show this is. If you buy good ones of these you’ll never regret it

    I bought the 1/4 drive to test out because I was sceptical. I work in a small auto shop so I figured I'd break it in a week or two. I've abused this little 1/4 drive by putting a cheater bar on it and breaking suspension bolts loose trying to break it.
    I've since ordered every tool they offer.
    They could double or triple the price and it'd still be a good deal for the money!

    If you work on transmission a zero degree ratchet (overrunning one way mechanism) is a one way clutch, like a sprag clutch. In the tool you have to engage the clutch either in reverse and forward and know you have a zero degree non-ratchet. Many mechanical engineers know about one way clutch mechanisms. But, the origins of the ratchet wrench has its roots in being able to dismantle the ratchet mechanism and rebuild it using a rebuild kit from the manufacturer like Snap-On. After all the people using it are mechanical technicians. Eventually all mechanisms wear out and a ratchet is relatively easy to rebuild.

    SnapOn has a gearless ratchet. It came out at least 3 years ago (that’s when I first saw it). My last two dealers didn’t even carry them, much less push them. One problem was the price, they were expensive. The other problem, and I see the same with this one, is the head is huge. It’s a cool idea, but chances are if the space is that tight, you won’t be able to fit in there anyway. Granted, these are really cheap, so they may be worth trying. But don’t get too excited about them.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  Год назад +1

      Yea at this demo he later showed me snap ons version, I too have never seen them on the tool truck lol. Yea I think the gear less wrenches would come in handy every now and then more than the ratchets. but still cool.

    • @JakeNaughtFromStateFarm
      @JakeNaughtFromStateFarm Год назад

      I’ve never seen the wrenches before, but I agree. Especially for that price, they’d be worth trying. If they end up being shitty, they can sit in the box and not get too upset because they’re not terribly pricey. While the ratchet looks great in that demo, I doubt it would fit anywhere tight enough to get that kind of use. But hey, I’ve been wrong before. Maybe some will find it good.

  • @dasphoenixable
    @dasphoenixable Год назад +1

    Might be worth throwing in the box, price isn’t bad, the only thing I wonder is what happens when you apply an excess amount of force on it, at what point does it slip and how bad is the knuckle damage when it does?
    I’m a rust belt mechanic and I may have broken the head off a 1/2” snap on ratchet before. My breaker bar definitely has a bend in it.

    • @Pedro2NR
      @Pedro2NR 10 месяцев назад

      This one can. The gear less ratchets are not new, as he demonstrates the other brands. But the other brands have lower torque and large arc swing.
      The Zero Degree not only has a smaller arc swing but is stronger.
      The 3/8 drive meets ASME specs of 1,800 lbf-in and 50,000 cycle tests at 360 lbf-in. The Kobalt ratchet doesn’t meet ASME torque load.
      If the Zero Degree breaks, fails or is defective, you can receive a replacement.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  Год назад +1

      My guess is that the pivoting ratchet is made to handle a lot more torque that the gearless can’t handle but idk 🤷‍♂️

    blah blah lets see project farm test them to see what torque they can hold.
