It’s nice to find more pen fanatics. I thought I was strange for having a crazy fascination for pens and handwriting. Just saying, I feel normal seeing this video and reading comments 😂 I am not alone!! 💞
Come on, did I just watch a 26 min video on pens and hand writing 😲 what kind of sorcery is that ! I loved every part of it, your voice is soothing and sends positive and kind vibes
Good to know. I’ve been eyeballing those for awhile now. Once you get spoiled with a pen, it’s hard to tolerate any skipping, stopping, glops. I think they dry pretty quickly but I’m a righty so I’ll reserve judgment on that for the 10%. I grew up with Bic pens and I’m not going to say anything bad about them. I just really appreciate the variety now. Sorry for the ramble, I guess I really am a pen nerd!
Seeing you write is so calming! I would love to see a video on your go to Toronto based stationery stores. I’m 40 mins out of Toronto and will to drive for great stationery hehe
Grab your tea and get cozy because once I start talking about pens, its hard for me to stop! OH also, although I do LOVE pens, I haven't tried every single one in existence (a tragic reality) so let me know if I missed one and what your favourite is! Hope you're all doing well guys! xx Kaitlin
I am curious about the Sarasa Grand. It takes every colour and size of all the other sarasa, but has a metal body that makes would make writing with it better. I haven't had a metal body pen for years! Does it make writing more pleasant? Or you recommend another similar "upscale" pen? I just got a signo DX .38 in black-blue and i was blown away, from both colour and writing ease. Is there a metal (or heavier) model in the Signo line? Do you like it?
Hi! I actually use that midori notebook for bullet journaling, was sceptical about the blue dots too but I love them now. Ater years in search for the perfect notebook I find myself re purchasing the midori one over all the others, just love how the paper feels, it's my favourite.
The paper texture is seriously perfect, I don't know how midori does it but wow, its so good! And I love how they have covers for the notebooks at different price ranges so you can pick what you like/is affordable for you!
I JUST got the Sarasa Vintage line and a Kaweco Sport two days ago. I TOTALLY understand the hype. They’re AMAZING. the Kaweco is soooo amazing! I have a TWSBI, but it’s barrel is thick. Kaweco is thinner and lighter. I love it. Soooo obsessed.
Nice video! I'm a big fan of the Pentel Energel In-free and Uni-Ball One Gel Pen (Currently using a One P for the shorter/wider shape). All in 0.5 mm tips.
That metal body Sarasa pen has become my favorite recently! ♥️ I thought they would be real heavy but are not. Yes, it does have a weight of course but not bad at all. If you write a lot, it might get your hand tired quickly but it’s awesome
I use pentel energel and I love it. I like 0.3 pens the best the thinner the ink the neater my handwriting is and the easier it is to read since my letters are pretty close together
Lovely video thank you! As an aside... if you are using your bullet journal as a memory keeper you may want to avoid overuse of the muji gel pen as the ink is not archival quality and may begin to fade after 2-3 years. Cheers!
@@KaitlinGrey Definitely! 2-3 years is a timeline I've found for artwork that was exposed to light. To be frank in a closed notebook it will probably be decades before any loss of color. It's just something to keep in mind if you are labeling pages with photos or other memorabilia as you will want that info when you look back. I know my mom spent a decade taking apart and re-cataloguing and re-lettering photobooks and scrapbook albums from my grandparents and great-grandparents since pH neutral and archival quality memory keeping wasn't something previous generations would consider. I hope this helps! Cheers 😊
Oh whoa, I can’t even imagine how much work and time must have gone into re writing everything! You’re moms amazing! Thank you so so much for all this quality information, I’m definitely going to research which of my pens are archival!
Hi so I just discovered your channel and I am OBSESSED! And I was wondering wether you could do an ABC alphabet video because your handwriting is so beautiful!!!! And I would really like to learn how to write like you!
I have had *dreams* about the sarasa vintage pens, and though I am aware they are not the most elusive of stationery, but I have never seen a set of pens I want more. I plan on getting them for my birthday cause I'm in love 💗💗💗😭
At the moment both sets (10 total pens) are selling on Amazon for around £11. If you are in the UK, go get them quick! I'm getting another set because I'm afraid the price will go up again soon. I wish they made the vintage in 0.3 or even 0.4
@@KaitlinGrey Hi, I know this is a bit old, but I have the same kaweco pen. The 0.7 is too thick for my liking as well, but I use my favorite refill from pensel energy or Zaras dry in mine. The only thing you have to do is cut off a bit from the back. I just use the original ink as a measure, and cut it to be the same as the original. Super easy, and then you have a ton of options :) I'm super happy with my pen and favorite ink :D
ive been binging your videos since i first watched this and im happy to let you know i bought both sets of the sarasa vintage pens and im a convert! thank you for recommending the pens ❤ im planning to buy the sarasa grand as well soon!
Hi Kaitlin. I, too, love pens so it makes perfect sense that I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I’m pretty sure I own every pen you featured. I have a set of the Sarasa Vintage pens. My favorite color is the camel (I don’t recall if it’s just camel or if there’s an additional description). It’s such a unique color, much darker than yellows (which just don’t show up) and more muted than oranges. It’s smooth, too. I have a Kaweco Sport Gel, but I kind of gave up using it because the .07 is just too wide on any paper I use. But when you pulled yours out and you had a different refill in it, I wondered if I might have something in my collection of refills that might fit that was also .05 (I LOVE to mix and match -I even use my label maker to name the refill and size and stick them on the pen barrels). The Sakura Craft Lab 001 fits! It comes in different colors (I happen to have a black and a blue/black) and in .05. Writing with it now and back in love with my Kaweco Sport Gel. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION!!! ❤️ You can purchase the refills on JetPens.
I will have to check out the Sakura craft lab 001, like you I LOVE the kaweco but 0.7 is just not for me tragically! Thank you so much for the refill recommendation I really really appreciate it! Oh and thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.
my handwriting is best described as Dr's note or more accurately, chicken scratch. as someone with such horrendous handwriting isn't it odd yet amusing that I love and collect pens and notebook of different textures. those Sarasa Vintage ink are eye candy. thank you for making this soothing video with lots of good info and great tips.
Loved your video, I really wanted to see that brown grey sarasa vintage grand in action and it did not disappoint! Thought I should comment in case you're still looking for refill options for the Kaweco Sport: They take any Parker G2 size refill and while I'm still using the Kaweco one mine came with I did some research some time ago on Parker G2s for my Jotter because I wanted different colour options. Monteverde make Parker style refills in an assortment of colours and sizes. I have their ceramic gel refills in fine and they write beautifully so I recommend looking into them!
Thank you for doing this video, I have a tendency to write really fast, not sloppy though😃 I have no idea 🤷🏽♀️ why, and with writing fast I notice that I make so many mistakes 😠 I brought a lined notebook a few days ago and have started to practice and it’s so true, my hand writing is getting better and I don’t make nearly as many mistakes, I’m a very new bullet journaler and am very particular about how my writing looks, btw 😀 i’m ordering the Sarasa vintage pens 🖊 I wish they had those colors in the 0.38 also.
Oh wow, that's really impressive! Ah yes, I'm the same, I think faster than I write which leads to me skipping words ahaha. I'm glad the lined notebook is helping out!
I only recently discovered the Uni Jetstream ballpoint in .38 and it was like all my prayers were answered. I only got one because I was jealous of everyone who got one free with their Hobonichi orders, and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Now I have two, and like a dozen refills in my jetpens cart. I do love gel pens as well, but ballpoints are my first love and omg I love these pens so much lol. I have to make a conscious effort to use other pens because jetstream is love, jetstream in life.
I literally bought 12 packs of Jetstream refills (8 pieces in each pack) from Amazon Japan because a. I love Jetstream and b. I have to buy that crazy amount for the shipping fee to be worth it (Canadian here) I chose Amazon Japan because they have the green refill that I can't find anywhere else. It probably doesn't bother lots of people, but I'm using them for my Jetstream 4+1 multi pens so naturally I want to get refills for all of the four colours
I think you could also use Zebra refills in Pentel bodies. I have a Pentel energel in a Zebra Sarasa clip body so I think you could also do it the other way around. I usually use whichever refill in any pen body that is available lol. I love the Sarasa Grand. I would love to buy the Green Black one and just permanently use that as a pen body.

There are others but those are the three main ones I frequent a bit more often than intended ahaha
The Sarasa Vintage Brown Grey, Bordeaux Purple, Red Black, Cassis Black and Camel Yellow colors look so stunning. I'm kind of torn between buying one or two Grand pens with refills or the plastic vintage pens in an assorted pack from Amazon Canada.
All the colours are lovely! What I did is I bought the assorted pack, then upgraded to grands for the colours I used a lot so I could just buy the refills 🤗
@@KaitlinGrey I had initially considered doing that and wasn't sure about it but now I feel more certain that I should purchase the assorted packs first, thanks for affirming my decision!
Dear Kaitlin, Can you please share the notebooks that you prefer for cursive writing? I had a stroke & now tremoring hands so i'd appreciate knowing as i struggle even more if the paper is too smooth. Also, i prefer grid (graph?) paper as my vision can not see the dots. Hope to find some of the pens ~ Victoria, BC is smaller than TO, & i'd prefer to stay away from Amazon & prefer to by CDN only b/c of duties. Many thanks! ~kari PS: i'd love to learn how your write the fancy lettered 'headings', they're beautiful!
Hey Kari! Yes of course, more than happy to give you some recommendations! I find the the Midori MD notebook have a nice friction to the without being overly textured, I also love the Stalogy, it’s not super smooth paper but I’d say the Midori is a bit more rough so that might be better for you! I hope that helps!
You’re welcome :) To answer your question about handwriting, I have cursive and printing guides for my writing in my Etsy shop (shop Kaitlin grey) so I’d say those would be the best way to learn my specific style!
I am an admitted perfectionist and HATE when I make a mistake writing...REALLY hate it. Frixion just came out recently with a white pen that is a much darker black and is very fine but it erases. That was a game changer for me. In times past I have cut entire pages out because of one wrong word. I wish I wasn't weird like this but this pen was huge for me. Have you ever tried it? Before that i wan enamored of a Korean brand that was extremely fine and made a bit of a scratchy sound almost like a calligraphy pen!
There’s a plastic version as well as a more expensive version of the pen body made of metal (called the sarasa grand)! I’m not sure about 1.0mm refills but if they’re by sarasa I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t fit!
I also slip in and out of cursive and print when I'm writing lol. I think it's a symptom of taking notes by hand in college. Also I think certain cursive letters are ugly, so I never use them lol... like Q. I hate cursive Q.
Like me in Malaysia, I just use the RM2 priced pens, it's economical and still doing good job. But I just love collecting pens and expensive pens mostly I have the ball pens with refills. I feel bad to use those for daily use.
Please, I need a suggestion! I used to write with the Pilot V5 Hi-Tecpoint. Unfortunately, no matter where I buy them from the later years, they all have the same issues. They stop writing and the all lose ink, which makes my hand a mess!! I want some feedback and 0.5mm thichkness, I wouldreally appriciate any help! Thanks in advance
Aw man, I’m sorry to hear that your Pilot pen isn’t working, malfunctioning pens are always tragic 🥲 I love the thickness of the sarasa pens, its a pretty standard 0.5 in my experience. I think in terms of feedback, I’ve found that the paper you use can have a big effect on how your pen feels. So I would recommend picking up a couple options (maybe do a google search on pens similar to the pilot v5) and try it out on the notebook you use the most often!
That’s it. That’s why I don’t like red pens! It wasn’t a good sign on a school paper. Thank you so much for the swatches and descriptions. I’ve had a pen problem (addiction) for over 30 years. I don’t collect expensive ones. But I can go to Jet Pens for anything without putting at least one pen I’ve hearing about in my cart. Edit: I couldn’t even get thru the video without buying pens.
The Sarasa Grand is my true writing pen. So far I have not found one I like better. Prefer the .5 tip. And the weightiness of the pen body is perfect for me.
I dont love pens but i like handwriting poetry... i write in cursive and when I'm writing poetry i need to be able to flow smoothly and quickly. I realized a big problem for me is i use shit pens. So here i am :) thanks for the video

Great video, thank you! Our tastes in pens are very similar, while my writing is a mess... How much I would love to improve!
I absolutely love the Sarasa Vintage pens!
lol we should start a vintage sarasa appreciation club haha
Thank you! I am excited to purchase some of these!
You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy your pens 😚
The Pentel Energel Clena has a really beautiful brown pen, and the blue one is very similar to the Sarasa Grand in Blue Grey.
Gotta check that out 👀, thank you
Dear Kaitlin, Can you please share the notebooks that you prefer for cursive writing?
@@KaitlinGrey Thank you! Can you please suggest how you learned to handwrite in that style? Really lovely!
You’re welcome :) To answer your question about handwriting, I have cursive and printing guides for my writing in my Etsy shop (shop Kaitlin grey) so I’d say those would be the best way to learn my specific style!
@@KaitlinGrey Done! thank you!
you’re welcome friend ☺️
I am an admitted perfectionist and HATE when I make a mistake writing...REALLY hate it. Frixion just came out recently with a white pen that is a much darker black and is very fine but it erases. That was a game changer for me. In times past I have cut entire pages out because of one wrong word. I wish I wasn't weird like this but this pen was huge for me. Have you ever tried it? Before that i wan enamored of a Korean brand that was extremely fine and made a bit of a scratchy sound almost like a calligraphy pen!
I’ll have to check that one out! It’s always handy having an erasable pen hanging around!
Wow I missed that one! I went through a Frixion phase a while ago, and I thought I had them all... I must definitely look for it
when my preciouc popped up I hollered,,,yesssss I am a pen addict lol , tfs
Ahahaha aren’t we all 🤣
@@KaitlinGrey btw I need those Sarasa pens, too 😊
Hahaha they are top notch, 10/10 recommend!
Can you please tell some better alternatives for Pilot Dr. Grip? They r soo expensive 😭😭😭
Some questions if I may, - Is the sarasa grand clip metal or plastic ? Can it fit 1.0mm fills ?
There’s a plastic version as well as a more expensive version of the pen body made of metal (called the sarasa grand)! I’m not sure about 1.0mm refills but if they’re by sarasa I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t fit!
Thank you for sharing your experience with pens .
I also slip in and out of cursive and print when I'm writing lol. I think it's a symptom of taking notes by hand in college. Also I think certain cursive letters are ugly, so I never use them lol... like Q. I hate cursive Q.
I FOGOT ABOUT THE CURSIVE Q! But you're right, that letter is weird, at least for me, it never felt natural so I always did lower case haha
Like me in Malaysia, I just use the RM2 priced pens, it's economical and still doing good job. But I just love collecting pens and expensive pens mostly I have the ball pens with refills. I feel bad to use those for daily use.
When you already own all these pens 🥴😩😂🤣 thanks for the chat friend 😍
ahahaha twinning 👯♀️ Glad you enjoyed Chantelle!
Yep! I own these, too! Great pens and unique colors.
My V5 gave me problems as well. Now I only use them to underline. Such a shame, I had great expectations for those pens.
Edit: I couldn’t even get thru the video without buying pens.
ahaha mystery solved! and omg, I'm dying over the edit hahaha you're hilarious Laurie!!
@@KaitlinGrey definitely down $7-no regret.
Follow up-I have the pens and they are delightful because of the colors. Definitely recommend.
Yesssss I’m so happy to hear that! The colours are truly next level!
The Sarasa Grand is my true writing pen. So far I have not found one I like better. Prefer the .5 tip. And the weightiness of the pen body is perfect for me.
Yes! Its not too heavy but not too light! Now I need to resist buying it in more colours...like the green black 🥺
Try the Ohto rays flash dry refills 1.95 us on jetpen and they are .5
I just got the same set of pens you have referenced in this video
Nice! I hope you like em' Heather!
Great tips!
Just bought a ton of pens, thanks. ❤️
ahaha you're so welcome! Which pens did you pick up Robyn?
@@KaitlinGrey I got the Muji and Sarasa grands, so excited.
@@robynkahle7240 Oooooh such good choices! But I mean, they're all amazing haha! Hope you like them.
The tips for handwriting start at 17:45 ish
I also love ❤pens there the best!
Thank you! I got the Sarasa Vintage for $7 USD
I dont love pens but i like handwriting poetry... i write in cursive and when I'm writing poetry i need to be able to flow smoothly and quickly. I realized a big problem for me is i use shit pens. So here i am :) thanks for the video
You know TUL pencils?
I do not!
do you have interest in fountain pens ?
I do! I just started getting into them recently 🤗
@@KaitlinGrey be careful it's very addictive and can emty your bank😂
My brown grey is so much lighter what the actual fu$% 😢
Interesting, my eyes prefer the unslanted ....
Oh that is interesting!
you know the mujirushi pens are just oem sarasa pens right
also THE SARASA GRAND ISN'T 25 BUCKS WTF YOU GUYS ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF
These pens are not available in India
My handwriting is too small for the teachers to read.... ○~○
lol goals
The beginning: oh she has a lot of Muji pens
The end: she owns every damn color of the Zebra Sarasa Grand
Do you know what's better than all of those pens?... pencils.
This is kinda funny cuz muji means pubic hair in my language
Sarasa Clip Gel Pen 0.5mm = scrachy like a cat
Not all of them are scratchy in my experience!! Sometime I find my refills get like this and usually it's just a bad one
Handwriting 😭
