I love how Joe essentially picks up a lot of knowledge about Sicily from patients, it's like it's own little unraveled adventure for him, you know getting kidnapped and all, you just know he's getting into a world of chaos every season. Most intelligent and sentimental show that has ever been on television... I have had the complete season DVD set for a number of years... And this is my annual winter viewing..I absolutely love Northern Exposure ❤
I did love this show when it was on the air. I was very sad when it was canceled. I wound up moving from Houston to Port Angeles, Washington, out on the Olympic peninsula and discovered that, 15 years later, the people of Roslyn, where it was filmed still had fond memories of it. One of there people had a tricked out white pickup which was done up as the official vehicle of KBHR Radio, Cicely, Alaska, complete with evergreen trees on the doors. He would pay a visit to Port Angles, every few months, and we would see it parked around town.
I've enjoyed these videos so much. I loved Northern Exposure when it was on TV and am currently rewatching it now on Amazon. It's nice to hear someone else who loved it as much talk about it. My grandmother told me she cried when the show ended. I get it. It's special. It's beautiful.
I also cried. The song......"Our Town" that they used still makes me weep. I own the entire series and just recently re-watched it while snowed in. I never grow tired of it.
One thing I’d mention briefly is the love they show for Detroit and the auto manufacturers at the time. If you’re into old 4x4’s, Northern Exposure is almost pornographic.

The funniest bit about all of this, is that like Twin Peaks, I can safely say that Northern exposure was filmed here in Washington state. In fact the names of Roslyn and Cicely from the historical flashback season 3 Finale is one such nod. The other is Seattle is quite literally the closest city to most of Alaska, up to and including the nearest MLB and NFL franchises. This wasn't helped by many of the interiors were filmed in the now suburb of Renton, which is the south end of Lake Washington from Seattle. And while Twin Peaks was filmed externally at North Bend and Snoqualmie, Roslyn hosted downtown Cicely. Sadly like the music, the town has had massive fires since the filming of the show and so some of the iconic places show are shown here as they were captured on celluloid in the late 80s and early 90s.
Reservation Dogs is a wonderful show that reminds me so much of Northern Exposure. The way that Rez Dogs used surreal storytelling and the metaphysical to weave into the larger arc of the characters lives is almost identical to NX, and not to mention the use of spirits as guides. I would love to see a future video exploring the connection between the two

Did anyone catch the fact that the two town founders are Cicely and Roslyn. Cicely being the fictional Alaskan town the show is set in and Roslyn being the actual physical town that the show was filmed in Washington.
Seasons 3 and 4 of Northern Exposure are the best in the history of American commercial television. Three Amigos from S. 3 and Nothing's Perfect from S. 4 are very special to me.

There are no weak links in these seasons, though.

Wish you would have mentioned the episode, "Wake Up Call," which, for me, is not only the best Northern Exposure episode ever, but the best ever aired on network television, period. This was an egregious omission. And Mike Monroe? The first character I could not stand, even though I do like Anthony Edwards.
The Detroit episode is incredible. Funnily, I always conflate it in my mind with Robert Altman's highly underrated 1978 comedy, A Wedding, which has a similar vibe and even a mom locking herself in the bathroom like in this episode. It may be a testament to how cinematic NExp is that I confuse it with a film by a great director.
Most of the ideas for the stories were from the national geographic magazine, the writers stole them. You could call them the back 🔙 drop 💧 idea, not the personal relationships though!!!!😮😮😮😮😢😢😢
