You think and investigate holistically rather then think in dichotomous terms. 18:00 - 18:50 - I agree. It’s actually that simple. It comes down to fear of maladaptive self-reference in personalized ontological format-forgive my own idiosyncratic linguistic or semantic patterns. Describing "proper meditation" is kind of a paradox for the simple fact that there's so many different types and practices associated with a meditative state and meditation in general people often confuse hypnosis or self hypnosis for meditation and wind up stuck in some sort of echo chamber where they cant destinguish their thoughts from reality

I am in absolute agreement with you on what you say about the unraveling and disentanglement of the consubstantiality of matter and spirit, disobjectification, the removal of defilements to get back to what was always gold. So why do you have this aversion to the word meditation? When you were in a state of bliss consciousness recently what was that? You have already described what meditation is (without actually coming out and using the word) which is to go back to the source, the ultimate subject. You've written about the true interpretation of Buddhas doctrine in the Nakayas when you speak about recollectiveness, purification of the citta, realizing that you are Atman, spirit. Why don't you just come out and say that meditation, or more accurately the state of meditation, is non dual awareness knowing itself. You could say it is nirvikalpa Samadhi or Jhana. You often say you are going to talk specifically about the methodology but you don't quite get there because of your aversion to this simple word meditation which is a way of reaching the transcendent Self. I don't mean to be critical. I love your videos but some clarification about this would be worthwhile, otherwise talk specifically about how you get into samadhi. I know but I don't have a problem with the word meditation as you do. Or it might be that you feel more comfortable with using a phrase such as self inquiry (Atma Vichara).
Look up the Etymology of the word. It doesn't come close to that context. Ask a hundred people that question and you'll get 100 answers. Modern/Post-Modern times will say it's a "State of Being". The Latin etymology says it's concentration or to ponder. I have a friend who practices various gazing exercises (plant/star gazing) i.e. Trataka and calls the focusing on one object letting go of all else, meditation. I personally practice a form of Bone Marrow Cleansing with my Neigong practice which people say I'm meditating when they catch me and I reply I am not. Most of the time people speak of meditation, they aren't speaking about disobjectification nor theurgy. The word is convoluted and points to nothing without pointing to 'No-Thing'.
@@JDelafose yes I agree. Most people don't know what meditation is when they use the word. It can mean anything you want it to. But I know what it means in practical, experiential terms of disobjectification and transcendence. Ken could articulate that clarity too instead of just dismissing the word. He speaks articulately with an obvious direct understanding but about the principles and meaning not the actual practice. He did a video about methodology but there was no actual methodology. I viewed it until the end. It never came. But he obviously has a methodology to get into that blissful state he mentioned. So no one who watched the video is any the wiser except to take away mere concepts about transcendence.

You say you have your experience, others say they have theirs, and everyone says I know what meditation truly means. In the Etymology of the word it never meant disobjectifacation. With the rise of Stoicism again, some of modern would say Marcus Aurelius' Meditations are the true form of meditation. Who do we take as the authority on the subject? Ken, gives the Etymology, makes a distinction of why it is not theurgy, and the collective response is "just use the word meditation". But it's not meditation if he's staying true to being an 'original textualist' as Ken seems to be. Does he change his position to match with some think the word means, does he stick to the original meaning, does he abandon the word altogether so he can assert what he truly is speaking of i.e. Theurgy/Apophaticism/Jnana? Seems to be quite a pickle.
@@JDelafose Ken previously said there is no agreed definition for the word meditation which is precisely why he rejects it. So use a different word for the practice that leads to disobjectification and samadhi. I don't mind. It's not the word that matters. It's the nuts and bolts of what it is. Ken called it methodology for liberation but he didn't deliver on it in explanatory terms. I'm only having this conversation because I think Ken needs to be taken seriously. He speaks the truth about the real goal of what we now call Buddhism and he is also correct that it is no different to Advaita Vedanta. I live in Thailand so I'm surrounded by Therevada nihilists. 😃

The learned Senior monk Shen-Hsiu thought he had written the most apt verse on enlightened untarnished mirror-like mind, by writing the following distillation of the gradual method of meditative insights... The body is the bodhi tree, The mind is like a clear mirror. At all times we must strive to polish it, And must not let the dust collect. Hui-Neng immediately realized that it lacked in direct perception of what is. The real is spontaneous presence, both form and beyond form all-at-once, instantaneously, in the here-and-now... in the moment of reading the verse. Bodhi originally has no tree, The mirror(-like mind) has no stand. Buddha-nature (oneness) is always clean and pure; Where is there room for dust (to alight)? There is another version attributed to Hui-Neng where he imparts his realization even more profoundly.. this version if nothing else grants him entry and assures his place in the Great Hall of the Ancients. This verse written with the very ink of luminosity, reads: The mind is the Bodhi tree, The body is the mirror stand. The mirror is originally clean and pure; Where can it be stained by dust?
So far i have this about this mysterious methodology: - It takes about 25 min. to Ken to be engaged in that state - Wanting to be there helps, like thinking about it, and somehow trying to. - The dialectic engagement is part of the methodology - There are a few useful resources. One thing really gets me: I, for all that matters, am this body this person etc. and since i haven't experienced this transcendent soul, i don't believe it. So if metaphysics don't need me to have faith or more belief systems, then a clear and simple way to access the divine has to exist. Another thing, i read The Unknown God and like you, it never gets to the actual point. Cannot think my way out of a thinking box?
why do u think you can't go examine the same body you have in the waking state in a mirror in a dream. The subject is not a object. Why are some people deeply disturbed and infatuated by the mirrors reflection and others don't even bother to care what they look like. If one seen a distorted image in a mirror in a dream of there existential body , one may be extremely scared through the filter of attachment and identity while someone wise who does not give capacitance to existential identity will not even be fazed or take the image to be there self at all. What you see through your eyes implies personality yet eyes and ears is not the cause of personality, The substrate to phenomena is impersonal and is point source it will not take on any attributes it is the very reason the "person" suffers from desires , fears , and mirage of existential identity. The soul only takes refuge in it self but is the capacitor and substrate to all "being" and "becoming". my body , my mind, my ears, my toes, unthought thinker there is no signal radio , no luminous self in the mind , body, or anywhere.

I dont know, yet Im tolde.. One sign of intelligence is to hone the ability of taking the thing that which is difficult and making it simple. For anyone and everyone to be able to understand. And the sign of the lack thereof, of course, is the taking of that which is capable of being made simply understood, being made without good merit, overly complicated and unwarrantly difficult. Even that to which extent even the subject itself finds itself lost in the convolution of its own process of thought and reasoning. I never thought I'd ever bear witness to a Master Teacher such as yourself, of thy general character and descent nature. Which in my opinion is much more different from just a mere scientist or physicist. For Master Teachers are only aloof when they choose to be. Yet we dont know things by what they might seem or appear to be. But by the content of their character. By the fruit which they bear, is how we know a thing. Kind of reminds me of a passage Im privileged to be familiar with; "the things of that which are uncommon?" Perhaps one might find that here Acts 10:28 to appease ones inqeuring pleasure. Not to flatter you of course. I would not tempt you to be a victim of your own ego. And if it had appeared as such, please forgive me. It was not nor never my intention. Nonetheless, I have two contentions, if I may. One will be brief. The other, not so much. I consider upon inference why one would use the western abstract connotation of the concept of belief. But with that same consideration it would be difficult for me to believe that you of all people would not know and be aware of what that self same concept denotes. People in the western world habitually often conflate and construe belief with blind faith let alone that which one is faithful not being three different concepts. I know in past times I often did. One believes in what one knows. Or thinks he knows. For instance, water. One knows water revitalizes, nourishes and hydrates. And cleanses the body. And is good for drink. Lest the water be poisoined he would be thinking not aright. Yet nonetheless resolves in one having a belief in the same. Not a knowing. For that would be grammaticaly incorrect. One knows that water, in its proper portion, has a revitalizing effect. And if one was pressured and coerced to confess otherwise from that which he knows and practices in all relevant aspects of his existence believing in that which one knows is true. In the confessing otherwise, contrary, being promised to be relieved of ones present duress and mental anguish of that which appears uncertain. Would be an act of unfaithfulness. But to remain faithful spite the unfavourable condition give light to the things which are hoped for through blind faith. Which are not for the nullifidian. The weak and faint of heart. Not to lead you to believe Ive never had my part to play in the role of infidelity. For I often am too are weak oftentimes myself. But I digress. Lastly my second contention of course was your mentioning of the puppet and the puppeteer. Which I found to be entertaining. That the puppet has no effect over the puppet master. Well I, on the otherhand contend otherwise. How one might say? Well simply because the puppet master allows it to. Allows it to what? ...Have power over him. And with that I fully digress. Describing "proper meditation" is kind of a paradox for the simple fact that there's so many different types and practices associated with a meditative state and meditation in general people often confuse hypnosis or self hypnosis for meditation and wind up stuck in some sort of echo chamber where they cant destinguish their thoughts from reality

I am in absolute agreement with you on what you say about the unraveling and disentanglement of the consubstantiality of matter and spirit, disobjectification, the removal of defilements to get back to what was always gold. So why do you have this aversion to the word meditation? When you were in a state of bliss consciousness recently what was that? You have already described what meditation is (without actually coming out and using the word) which is to go back to the source, the ultimate subject. You've written about the true interpretation of Buddhas doctrine in the Nakayas when you speak about recollectiveness, purification of the citta, realizing that you are Atman, spirit. Why don't you just come out and say that meditation, or more accurately the state of meditation, is non dual awareness knowing itself. You could say it is nirvikalpa Samadhi or Jhana. You often say you are going to talk specifically about the methodology but you don't quite get there because of your aversion to this simple word meditation which is a way of reaching the transcendent Self. I don't mean to be critical. I love your videos but some clarification about this would be worthwhile, otherwise talk specifically about how you get into samadhi. I know but I don't have a problem with the word meditation as you do. Or it might be that you feel more comfortable with using a phrase such as self inquiry (Atma Vichara).
Look up the Etymology of the word. It doesn't come close to that context. Ask a hundred people that question and you'll get 100 answers. Modern/Post-Modern times will say it's a "State of Being". The Latin etymology says it's concentration or to ponder. I have a friend who practices various gazing exercises (plant/star gazing) i.e. Trataka and calls the focusing on one object letting go of all else, meditation. I personally practice a form of Bone Marrow Cleansing with my Neigong practice which people say I'm meditating when they catch me and I reply I am not. Most of the time people speak of meditation, they aren't speaking about disobjectification nor theurgy. The word is convoluted and points to nothing without pointing to 'No-Thing'.
@@JDelafose yes I agree. Most people don't know what meditation is when they use the word. It can mean anything you want it to. But I know what it means in practical, experiential terms of disobjectification and transcendence. Ken could articulate that clarity too instead of just dismissing the word. He speaks articulately with an obvious direct understanding but about the principles and meaning not the actual practice. He did a video about methodology but there was no actual methodology. I viewed it until the end. It never came. But he obviously has a methodology to get into that blissful state he mentioned. So no one who watched the video is any the wiser except to take away mere concepts about transcendence.

You say you have your experience, others say they have theirs, and everyone says I know what meditation truly means. In the Etymology of the word it never meant disobjectifacation. With the rise of Stoicism again, some of modern would say Marcus Aurelius' Meditations are the true form of meditation. Who do we take as the authority on the subject?
Ken, gives the Etymology, makes a distinction of why it is not theurgy, and the collective response is "just use the word meditation". But it's not meditation if he's staying true to being an 'original textualist' as Ken seems to be. Does he change his position to match with some think the word means, does he stick to the original meaning, does he abandon the word altogether so he can assert what he truly is speaking of i.e. Theurgy/Apophaticism/Jnana? Seems to be quite a pickle.
@@JDelafose Ken previously said there is no agreed definition for the word meditation which is precisely why he rejects it. So use a different word for the practice that leads to disobjectification and samadhi. I don't mind. It's not the word that matters. It's the nuts and bolts of what it is. Ken called it methodology for liberation but he didn't deliver on it in explanatory terms. I'm only having this conversation because I think Ken needs to be taken seriously. He speaks the truth about the real goal of what we now call Buddhism and he is also correct that it is no different to Advaita Vedanta.

scraping away paint on that clear glass...the Platform Sutra's verse of Hui Neng the 5th Zen Patriarch comes to [pure] mind. The learned Senior monk Shen-Hsiu thought he had written the most apt verse on enlightened untarnished mirror-like mind, by writing the following distillation of the gradual method of meditative insights...
The body is the bodhi tree,
The mind is like a clear mirror.
At all times we must strive to polish it,
And must not let the dust collect.
Hui-Neng immediately realized that it lacked in direct perception of what is. The real is spontaneous presence, both form and beyond form all-at-once, instantaneously, in the here-and-now... in the moment of reading the verse.
Bodhi originally has no tree,
The mirror(-like mind) has no stand.
Buddha-nature (oneness) is always clean and pure;
Where is there room for dust (to alight)?
There is another version attributed to Hui-Neng where he imparts his realization even more profoundly.. this version if nothing else grants him entry and assures his place in the Great Hall of the Ancients. This verse written with the very ink of luminosity, reads:
The mind is the Bodhi tree,
The body is the mirror stand.
The mirror is originally clean and pure;
Where can it be stained by dust?
Birds go with the flow. 😅

So far i have this about this mysterious methodology:
- It takes about 25 min. to Ken to be engaged in that state
- Wanting to be there helps, like thinking about it, and somehow trying to.
- The dialectic engagement is part of the methodology
- There are a few useful resources.
One thing really gets me: I, for all that matters, am this body this person etc. and since i haven't experienced this transcendent soul, i don't believe it.
So if metaphysics don't need me to have faith or more belief systems, then a clear and simple way to access the divine has to exist.
Another thing, i read The Unknown God and like you, it never gets to the actual point. Cannot think my way out of a thinking box?
why do u think you can't go examine the same body you have in the waking state in a mirror in a dream. The subject is not a object. Why are some people deeply disturbed and infatuated by the mirrors reflection and others don't even bother to care what they look like. If one seen a distorted image in a mirror in a dream of there existential body , one may be extremely scared through the filter of attachment and identity while someone wise who does not give capacitance to existential identity will not even be fazed or take the image to be there self at all. What you see through your eyes implies personality yet eyes and ears is not the cause of personality, The substrate to phenomena is impersonal and is point source it will not take on any attributes it is the very reason the "person" suffers from desires , fears , and mirage of existential identity. The soul only takes refuge in it self but is the capacitor and substrate to all "being" and "becoming". my body , my mind, my ears, my toes, unthought thinker there is no signal radio , no luminous self in the mind , body, or anywhere.

I dont know, yet Im tolde.. One sign of intelligence is to hone the ability of taking the thing that which is difficult and making it simple. For anyone and everyone to be able to understand. And the sign of the lack thereof, of course, is the taking of that which is capable of being made simply understood, being made without good merit, overly complicated and unwarrantly difficult. Even that to which extent even the subject itself finds itself lost in the convolution of its own process of thought and reasoning. I never thought I'd ever bear witness to a Master Teacher such as yourself, of thy general character and descent nature. Which in my opinion is much more different from just a mere scientist or physicist. For Master Teachers are only aloof when they choose to be. Yet we dont know things by what they might seem or appear to be. But by the content of their character. By the fruit which they bear, is how we know a thing. Kind of reminds me of a passage Im privileged to be familiar with; "the things of that which are uncommon?" Perhaps one might find that here Acts 10:28 to appease ones inqeuring pleasure. Not to flatter you of course. I would not tempt you to be a victim of your own ego. And if it had appeared as such, please forgive me. It was not nor never my intention. Nonetheless, I have two contentions, if I may. One will be brief. The other, not so much. I consider upon inference why one would use the western abstract connotation of the concept of belief. But with that same consideration it would be difficult for me to believe that you of all people would not know and be aware of what that self same concept denotes. People in the western world habitually often conflate and construe belief with blind faith let alone that which one is faithful not being three different concepts. I know in past times I often did. One believes in what one knows. Or thinks he knows. For instance, water. One knows water revitalizes, nourishes and hydrates. And cleanses the body. And is good for drink. Lest the water be poisoined he would be thinking not aright. Yet nonetheless resolves in one having a belief in the same. Not a knowing. For that would be grammaticaly incorrect. One knows that water, in its proper portion, has a revitalizing effect. And if one was pressured and coerced to confess otherwise from that which he knows and practices in all relevant aspects of his existence believing in that which one knows is true. In the confessing otherwise, contrary, being promised to be relieved of ones present duress and mental anguish of that which appears uncertain. Would be an act of unfaithfulness. But to remain faithful spite the unfavourable condition give light to the things which are hoped for through blind faith. Which are not for the nullifidian. The weak and faint of heart. Not to lead you to believe Ive never had my part to play in the role of infidelity. For I often am too are weak oftentimes myself. But I digress. Lastly my second contention of course was your mentioning of the puppet and the puppeteer. Which I found to be entertaining. That the puppet has no effect over the puppet master. Well I, on the otherhand contend otherwise. How one might say? Well simply because the puppet master allows it to. Allows it to what? ...Have power over him. And with that I fully digress.
