I am still using my 9 years old MacBook Air Early 2015, travelled around the world. it is still 100% functional and healthy. I use it everyday in these 9 years. Amazing product.
You need to check the condition. I have been using it everyday and taking care of it, no water, no drop… the product quality is extremely good. This is the only laptop last longer than 3 years in my life.
I have the 11inch i7 8gb 500gb model. My brother didn't take care of it when I gave it to him in 2019, and I JUST now replaced the battery for the first time. Man let me tell you its on par, it still runs smoothly!
Hey, I still use early 2015 pro. And actually used it since 2015. Was wise enough that I bought it at full spec. I’ve considered replacing it with M chip line up but I’m in love with the thing too much.
Thank you for this video! my 11'' macbook air 2015 is still up and running, it still feels fast and responsive and up to most daily tasks. It can handle multitasking fairly well, too. They are definitely well built and long lasting.
I have a 2015 mba I bought refurbished last year and it runs very smoothly I love it I don’t have $800-$1200 to put out there for a brand new one so I’m perfectly happy with the 2015 model
I’m still using my MacBook Air 11-inch early 2015, every day. It has a single i5 processor with dual-core, running at 1.6GHz; and, 8GB of RAM. So far, I have left it at Monterey O/S and haven’t gone for the third-party cheats. It definitely doesn’t like having too many tabs open - but neither does my 2012 iMac desktop. I find I am always using my phone in parallel with my laptop. That is probably telling. With hindsight, I will always go for the highest rated processor from now on. It definitely feels like the processor is the limiting factor with this machine.
Still using my macbook air 2017 which is just 0.2Ghz faster than the 2015 version but I still love it like the day I bought it and I still use it for work
Have still my first Macbook Air 2012, dualcore, 4 Gb Ram. Ubuntu and other Linux distros ran well on it over the last years. Was using Pop OS mainly, since 2018. I just recently tested Xubuntu 24.04 minimal. It uses about 800 Mb Ram! I installed wlan driver, tlp, zram-config and mbfanctl (fan control for macbooks) to optimize. Inexperienced linux users can just run any ubuntubased distro like Mint or Zorin in the default install, will run well.
Eu tenho um Air de 2013(i7 + 8GB RAM) e me atende perfeitamente até hoje, uso para trabalhar. Chrome(20 abas) + Opera(10 abas) + WhatsApp + Google Drive + OneDrive
I recently also upgraded my MBA 11inch Early 2015 with 8GB RAM to Sonoma and also experienced the missing icons in the system settings, which will be resolved automatically after using it for a few hours. Also I had a super slow Spotlight. Spotlight even started indexing on every reboot. Killing and reenabling Spotlight via Terminal fixed that issue once and for all.
Just sold my early MacBook Air early 2015, 8 gb Ram and got the new fully loaded M3! After 8 years, although it had served me well, it felt like every time I turn it on, it could be the last. It would overheat while doing only 1 simple task (1 app) and cpu would be 80% usage, fans turning at max speed ect. That, coupled with delays in response and freezing led me to replace it. Maybe I could have fixed it but it had a good run and love the new model!
Actually the bottleneck is ram not CPU if you're doing daily task. I bought my early i5 4gb macbook air back to China for a ram upgrade. 16gb cost me around 50USD for part & labor, and it really worth the price! Now everything is sooo smooth in latest Monterrey. Ram usage is around 7.5 gb out of 16. CPU usage is around 30%~60%, which is prefectly for daily tasks
If you are looking for these, get the 2013/2015 i7 - they have a higher boost clock and are more responsive. And get 8gb if you want OC/Sonoma. I use one of these as my daily driver in my backpack 👍🏼- Remember to open and repaste CPU heatsink and clean heatsink fins - heat transfer really suffer after 10 years.
I have a 2015 MBA 13" but has 8gb of ram and 250gb hd. For my use, it is perfectly fine. I think it also had the original battery and it's between 85-90%.
Install Windows to it, and it's super fast, chrome opens in just less than a second and even with 20-25 tabs open it's still smooth. It's just MAC OS is so heavy for this old guy.
Ive got an early 2015 MacBook air That I have had no issues with. I did replace the battery 3 years ago. Ive heard that soon this Mac book will stop getting updates .I have no idea how to upgrade to Sonoma. What are my options ? Buy new ? I only do basic stuff . Surf , You tube , Mail, movies Great Info !! Thanks

Great question, and thank you for watching! I looked at them and even considered getting one, but I wasn’t sure if they would actually work. I would much prefer a USB-C to MagSafe 2 cable because I have a bunch of USB-C chargers lying around.
@@WhatNowTech In my experience for 4 years with both Magsafe 1 & 2, they work fine. I bought the cheapest I could find online. I have encountered only one charger, where charging turned off sometimes if the load varied a lot - but that was an old charger, not adhering to modern standards.

It still plays Street fighter good, but anything not in memory or cache takes 2-3 extra steps every time than what you're used to. Hi! Wondering if anyone can help - I still have my trusty early 2015 MacBook Air, which works fine with the exception of websites not displaying properly. Is this due to the fact that I cannot download the latest software? Will the open core legacy patcher fix this? I am not a computer expert and wondering if anyone can help so that I can load websites etc properly. Thanks!
Your RAM story is not "true" and as that simple as you make it. You can actually see you have 700mb of swap usage (SSD), which indicates that you are running out of RAM. It will never reach the 4gb because it needs some free space all the time. If you check an 8gb model and load the exact same programs, you'll see usage of way over 4gb (6-7 gb) and 0 swap usage. The operating system will chose to keep more stuff resident in RAM and keep data cached instead of flushing it out. That's how the OS optimizes the RAM usage AND the 8gb machine WILL run considerably faster on a current OS because of this. Just to give you an example. I'm writing this I'm on a 32gb M1 MBP running Sonoma with only Google Chrome open (one tab). My RAM usage is 13,2 gb + 11gb of cached data.
Thank you for your response! (and watching the video) You're 100% percent right, my main point was that you're mainly bottlenecked by the CPU as opposed to RAM. Newer MacBooks with 8 gigabytes of RAM also take advantage of the swap memory but it's not "as big" of a deal because the SSD is fast enough.
@@WhatNowTechYes even when data is resident in memory, you’ll feel the age of these cpus and there is no more you can do about the speed :) But still go for 8gb for Sonoma - the OS was never made to support 4gb machines. You’ll also see on the used market, that 4gb MB airs are only roughly half price of the 8gb versions, because of this. That’s why you got yours so cheap :) I have a lot of old Macs I refurbish myself and I always experience slower startup and general usage on 4gb macs if running Big Sur or newer.
@@OliverTaylor-hk2ry You should be able to. SEGA support list requirements for FM24 as: MacOS BigSur, Intel Core M, 4gb ram, Intel HD 5000/Metal 1. So Airs from 2013+ should fit the bill. Wether it's a good experience or not I don't know.
