I really appreciate the two of you talking about how four hours is about the limit on effective focused mental work per day without burning out. As a programmer, I've instinctively felt for a while that four hours of 'real work' (i.e. not sitting in meetings or reading Slack messages) is actually a good day for me, and it's really helpful to hear it confirmed I'm not just crazy but that the cultural expectation of the eight hour workday doesn't actually correspond to some kind of standard human capability.
They’ve been birthing notebooks, journals, hoodies… now they’re making kiddos. This one is definitely a loss maker though, they can’t all be profitable boys
As a Mom, nothing helped me feel more understood than when I started working mornings (hubsand works a swing) and he was in charge of a child on his own on a regular basis. He already did his share of chores and child rearing but having another person who understood what it was like to be on your own with baby for a chunk of the day. It helped so much. Like he had some sympathy before, but really really getting it is different.
4 hours of day of active work. I'm so glad you shared that number. I just finished my last job and I had to keep track and enter my own time sheet. If you work 5 days a week and have 4 good hours = 20 real hours a week. For full time jobs, that means you have 50% time actually working and 50% "water cooler talk fluff time". So when reporting with this in mind, since I had a part time job, I came to accept that I needed to x2 my logged hours for fair pay. Because if i only tracked and got paid for my true high level hours, I was ripping myself off working full time but getting half time pay.
Gratz Myke! Fair warning babies are pretty boring with a lot of 'admin', but they grow into hilarious little gremlins quickly. Take a breath to enjoy each stage as it comes, because it will change.
I think continuing to edit The Pen Addict is valuable because if there is some major change to how your editors need to do something you are still editing things and can more easily understand their needs.
So many tips, tricks, advice etc… the one that I didn’t expect to stuck with me was “he’ll be fine, you won’t break him” Hahahahaha you hadn’t even said the final bit about “maybe we don’t make it to single digits” and I was dying of laughter. Best laid plans my man!
and I thought I was weird for using a calorie counting app to input even the spoonful of oil when frying an egg... and Grey inputs even the dead time between tasks ... next level
Ahh I think we & Mike would benefit from a check on the total number of hours recorded in the year when looking at the detail categories, given Mike tracks less than 100% of total time anyway (unlike Grey who is expect has 90% off all time tracked)
The anti-theme sounds like my last vacation. I went camping near the east coast of Lake Michigan, and I set no goals other than seeing every sunset over the lake. Having almost no goals for vacation keeps me from trying to accomplish my vacation.
My biggest advice to any new parent: when your kid's asleep, go to sleep. Work and shows and games and what have you can wait, your mental sanity cannot.

Did CGP really refere to the birth of a baby as a "launch".
Also taking care of a baby being "admin side"...

Atleast he didn't say the "grand opening" 💀

Y’all made it! I’ve been refreshing Overcast the past couple of days looking forward to January Moretex. On to the show…

The Relay FM podcasts have changed their icons on Pocket Casts! The text is now Title Case rather than ALL CAPS.
1:07:47 jump scared me so much. I was relaxing on a bus to an event and just a ****! Goodness I jumped out of my seat

I missed hearing from you guys. Congrats on the baby! :3
Since Grey had a video release, does he have another one in the que as a Christmas 2025 present for himself?

Awesome 😎
That was good
Damn why not mention Bonanza, well at least I think I know it's not dead, Matt is clearly just too much of a CEO to make time (or be aloud time)
Myke Hurley, the baby maker.
The man is a stud clearly
