Keith Richards, of The Rolling Stones, tells a funny story about meeting The Police.
"There was a knock on our dressing-room door. Our manager shouted, 'Keith! Ron! The Police are here!' Oh, man, we panicked, flushed everything down the john. Then the door opened and it was Stewart Copeland and Sting."

My favorite Police tune. Stewart's snare and hi-hat work make the song. Just a great song.

Police always amaze with the sheer amount of sound that a three piece can make. There are only 3 band members and it sounds like more

^ ^ You may not get the reference of " Keep it up" it means playing keepie up which means bouncing a football on your foot so that it hovers in the air......much easier on the Moon VVxx

I loved when they came out in the late 1970s. Disco was done and a new wave came in it was a Renaissance so much great music came out. Saw them in concert. Their last one.

...I think the opening line contains the meaning of the song. You visit a friend you love...on the way home you feel joy; things are going right; the world seems to be in alignment. You feel "light", "unburdened".... "Walking on the Moon" .

I'd suggest Echo & the Bunnymen "The Killing Moon" (post-punk, new wave) , The Church " Under the Milky way" (post-punk, new wave/alt rock), Smashing Pumpkins "Rocket" ( Alt rock, grunge, shoegaze/psychedelic rock), HUM "Stars" (alt rock, punk/post punk), Muse "Knights of Cydonia" (alt rock, prog rock/space rock) as well to fit the next Space stream !

Apparently in Germany one night Sting was drunk and walking around in the hotel room was saying..... I'm walking in the room.... after it evolved to Walking on the moon and the meaning it has. The most Reggae song from Police, also they are great musicians and artists individually!!!

grew up with the police my Dad listened to them when I was a small boy he is a guitar player and used to look up to andy summers as a young man naturally I ended up picking up guitar and have been playing for years played some of their stuff at university for my degree and I can say Andy Summers is one of the most underrated guitars plays in history some of the arpeggios he does like every breath you take feels like you hands are burning from stretching so far across the fretboard haha and personally I listen to the song on a hot summers day with a pint of beer chilling out.

Dub is a form of Reggae where everything but the basics are removed and what is left in are the underpinnings. This just happened to be a song written in that style. Grace Jones does a killer version of this.

I was drunk in a hotel room in Munich, slumped on the bed with the whirling pit when this riff came into my head. I got up and started walking round the room, singing 'Walking round the room, ya, ya, walking round the room'. That was all. In the cool light of morning I remembered what had happened and I wrote the riff down. But 'Walking Round the Room' was a stupid title so I thought of something even more stupid which was 'Walking on the Moon'.

    Lex, you're right.
I grew up in California but I was at school in Hawaii when this came out. Our college was about two blocks from the beach and my girlfriend and I would go on nighttime walks while listening to this.
It's a song one listens to when they're feeling great.
