This video, filmed one foggy day in late winter of 2021 on Mount Seymour in North Vancouver, shows ravens having endless fun in the snow. These two were part of a larger group playing around in the snow, rolling, diving and generally goofing around. I'm sure there is a practical element of bathing in there somewhere, but it seems to be about 90% just about having a good time. Play is a sign of, and builder of, intelligence. Животные
Don't you just wish you could be friends with these guys?
Grab a stick and try playing tug of war with one.
Yup
You can be friends with other crows! Just say hi to any crow you see, give them a snack, and treat them nicely.
They will spread the message that you are a good person, and before you know it, they'll give you shiny gifts like nickels and people's car keys! Lol
@@ararepotato1420 Actually, during the early days of COVID crisis, the crows in my neighborhood were suffering from the lack of dumpster dining. The restaurants were closed down, so the dumpsters were empty. Luckily for the neighborhood crows, I was not working, so I'd ride around on my bike giving the crows bits of dog food and other goodies. It did get to the point where they knew me and would follow me when I rode my bike. I live in a high rise condo, so the crows don't come to visit my house. However, when I lived in the country, the crow family in our woods did sometimes bring us little gifts. They knew which room was my wife's studio. If they had not gotten their handout for the day, they would stand out in the yard and watch her through the window. When she looked back at them they would tear off blades of grass and wave them at her, to signal that it was time for a snack.
@@xray7908 That's awesome!
Ravens get a bad rap for being omens of death. And yet, they're like little kids when there's snow on the ground.
Black cats get the same rep as well
Don't forget the vultures!
Crows and ravens are both associated with death and bad luck, it’s because of their colours. Black is usually a bad sign (with animals ofc).
Magpies have a similar reputation, being if you see one you’ll have good luck, two for bad, vice versa.
@@IceburgCryptic It's a misconception that dates back to the Dark Ages (maybe even before that). One that should go the way of bloodletting.
Their rep used to be different. Then Christianity came to Europe.
The ravens are doing this because of their big brains, they understand fun and they like to have fun
Even my parakeets understand fun and they play around with toulet paper
Its not about size of brain. Their brain size similar to others.
Bees can also have fun.
I live in central Scotland. A couple of years ago after the first snowfall of the season I watched a crow lie on its side and roll down the snow covered roof of a neighbour's property opposite. It did this 3 or 4 times. It seemed to be enjoying itself. I thought, there's a bird having a bit of a carrion!
Love the pun 💀🤣
After the opening sentence my inner voice read your comment with a HARD scottish accent 😂
@@ardynizunia9709 Ah huv a vary kultured axe-cent, akshurly.

They’re having so much fun. I love the way one of them was waving its legs in the air. Ravens and crows are two of my favourite bird species.
Me too. One of them looked like a Ravens Linebacker after Najee Harris stiff-armed him on an angry run, legs in the air. LOL
They were enjoying their friendship and they like the snow!
I love birds! They always find food in my back yard, because i buy bags of food!
Ravens and crows are insanely misunderstood. People think they are some “rubbish picking dirty birds”, but really, they are one of the smartest most intelligent birds ever. And their feathers are simply beautiful
@@angelinapeng621Yes. A did you hear about the guy who’d been feeding a crow & it brought him a “beak-made” gift? That was so sweet! I would’ve felt like a proud parent lol
@@AlanaeImontae I learned that crows really remember who's treating them well and who doesn't
One of the numerous reasons I have a fascination for these birds. Both smart and playful.
Its said that a sign of high intelligence in animals is doing things just for fun! What i wouldnt do to be a raven or crow.
I do to. I’ve always wanted to make friends with one.
I have also seen geese jumping in piles of leaves in autumn just for fun. Birds are extremely intelligent!
@@Alexander_Luv1except for the eating bugs part. Being a bird would be liberating !
@@alphagt62Not all of them eat bugs. There's birds who eat fish, meat, nuts, fruits and vegetables! Basically anything.
"We were planning to have a snowball fight but discovered it was a challenge without mittens."
The way one of them rolls over at 0:33 😭so cute!
I love the little jumps corvids in general do. It’s so cute.(edited to say corvids instead of crows due to reply’s)
De-de-duh-da-da-de-duh. Da-duh-da-da-de-duh. 💜
They've got a couple of special walks. The hippity hop is my favorite, but I also like the cowboy walk, the Egyptian, and the side-step.
If you like those little “hops” then you’d love warblers!
Remember, if you become too weak to move and scavengers start to pick at your body, Ravens will prefer to peck out your eyes first.
Snow bathing! So cute
what a fun life - no work, no exams; just cuteness
Oh they definitely work.
I'd say trying to survive in the wild while avoiding opportunistic predators, and other ravens Mean Girling each other, counts as work.
@@Scarshadow666 i meant in a more office work type of way haha
There is still work
-Find food
-Find security from predators and environment
-Find a mate
The remaining time in between can be for play and fun.
go back in time enough and our ancestors were doing the exact same things.
They still gotta find food and stay away from predators.
雪を楽しんでいますね❤
You are SO lucky to get to be able to see these beautiful birds playing together! They are *so* rare to find frolicking, and much less in the snow. These birds are simply gorgeous and stunning creatures. Thank you for sharing this video with us! :D
😅
oh to be a raven playing in the snow
Ok Edgar Allan Poe 😂
Quoth the raven: "Wheeeeee!"
You made me laugh out loud! Thanks! :D
That's hilarious😂
nice one 😂
THEY'RE SO CUTE AND CHILDISH IT WARMS MY HEART FOR SOME REASON
The fact that the one is rolling down the hill again and again like a little kid is the cutest thing I've seen in forever! I love it!
Before we moved to our new home, we lived in our previous place for 3 years. Each morning during the warmer months, I would sit outside and eat my breakfast. Usually, I had either purchased or made a breakfast sandwich, or something with eggs. I would toss some of the egg to the variety of birds that dwelled in the area, and one day I was able to get them on video. Some had babies and were teaching them how to bird... I watched one of the mama's come up and grab some egg, and her babies (who weren't too far off from leaving the nest) would come running up as fast as they could, each one chasing her down with their mouth open, and she'd feed them. Then, she'd get a bite for herself, and then grab another piece for the babies and she'd look around, find one in the chaos of birds, and run up to feed one of them. We had a few different types of birds out there. These birds got used to me and the time that I'd show up. It never failed... I could see them in the trees or bushes nearby, waiting on me to toss out some egg. The video I captured turned out to be almost 7 minutes long, but it was so adorable, so funny, that I couldn't not take the video of them. Birds are smarter than some people give them credit for... same with other animal types. I'm so glad OP was able to capture this video :) Seeing the ravens frolicking in the snow, and rolling down the hill as a child/teen would, melted my heart this morning. Thank you, and I hope you're able to catch more memorable and exciting moments like this one :)
Not gonna read that. Get lost
@@Susowusjud4933Oh Such Heartbreak, You Won’t Read Something, Boo-Hoo
I love watching animals play! One time I saw a group of 5 crows playing "catch" with a stick while they were in flight! One would drop it, they'd all dive down and try to catch it...the one who did would then fly up a bit and drop it again!
That is sooo cool!!
Wow! Amazing!
I like the way they follow seagulls fighting each other over food! While the gulls are arguing amongst themselves, the crows nick there food.
They are known to be very intelligent.
whattttt....wow...thank you for aharing this, it s amazing....
The birds at my old apartment would launch themselves from a high tree or roof of the building, dive down to just barely scrape the surface of the public pool, and then launch back up again, they’d have so much fun and they’d be chirping the whole time ❤
Ah, how lovely, they’re rolling down the small snowy slope. It proves even birds can feel joy and fun!
What do you mean ‘even’ birds? Some birds are smarter than 5YO children 😂
@@eeemiluyou tell them, people really undervalue birds and how smart they can be
They're just cleaning their feathers. Birds bath even in cold water. Snow is just that, cold water.
@@elale8016. Well, even if it’s just cleaning feathers they look like they’re enjoying themselves!
@@elale8016Doubt it. They tend to go for under their wings when they’re bathing. They’re just having fun. I have other types of birds in my area that do the same thing.
What an Adorable Video! ❤ They look like a couple of Happy Kids playing in the Snow! 😊 Thank You for posting these Precious Birds!👍
Philza’s chat while Philza’s gone:
love this.
I take a daily walk around my neighborhood and all the crows know me. I'm the guy who will give them a peanut if they're well behaved. I call them cup-cups because I heard one of them say "cup" one time. They say it when they're happy I think.. Kind of a breathy 'kuhp'.
It's unbearable 😂 Kuhn 🥴
One who befriends crows makes powerful allies.
Saruman the White had many crows as spies.
Jokes aside, that's very cool.
Oden is that you?!!!
Aw, that’s nice. I’m sure they love the peanuts
After seeing that they know how to snowboard with a jar lid, I'm not even surprised. Ravens are too smart
Haha I know, I loved that one 😆😆😆
As smart as a 7 year old Human.
The way he's rolling around is adorable! They're having a good time!
It’s always nice to stop and watch the seemingly carefree ravens ❤

How can you hate something so playful and highly intelligent as these guys are. Just like kids they love the snow. I’m in love with these guys.
I think it's incredible that every intelligent species has its own version of playing. Such cute little things
Like killing my pet myna's kids
And shitting on me two times they are pests
All animals play. All animals are intelligent. We just have an anthropocentric view of the world and don't give animals the chance to play by making their environments miserable.

All I know is I can think for myself.
They are diving head first and rolling in the snow for fun of course, but they are also hoping to find some light fluffy stuff to bathe in. I saw two crows doing just that in light snow that collected in a tarp suspended on a construction site. So entertaining!
Ravens are incredibly smart, I bet that if they could talk, they would be able to direct my thesis, no question about it.
I've never seen any bird rolling around like that 😂
My cockatoo does it as well.
I was also suprised to learn that birds shake their tails when happy and in happy greetings.
@@Loralanthalasguess anthropomorphizing is out and canidomorphizing is in

You're ex girlfriend was a crow also? Lol you learn something new wveryday.

Aww! These birds know how to have a good time!
I love watching animals have fun. So cute!
How funny they are! I've seen ravens play, but I've never seen ravens roll around like that!
It's so sweet and gratifying, to see them having so much fun together! :)
I have also seen geese jumping in piles of leaves in autumn. Birds are extremely intelligent!
For those who don't know, they are taking a "snow bath", lots of animals do it. For birds, it's because water at this temperature would freeze their feathers.
No, its not just because of that, explain the practical reason a crow would slide down something like a lid in the snow? Because it helps it's survival? No, because they're amazingly intelligent, have an amazing sense of fun and curiosity, and they like to play and HAVE FUN. Just like us
@@KAHHHH8548 Don't get that over sentimental, that doesn't mean I said they are not intelligent nor amazing, crows and ravens are my favorite birds🙄. You know, loving animals is not humanizing them, it's trying to understand them.
Thanks for info . I immediately thought they were having snow bath too as i have seen them do similar with waterbath and bird expert they insulate their feathers that way
@@GreenVikeenArtloving animals is not trying to understand them, it's leaving them alone and myob.
@tetsuo964 It's different if they interact with us though. When I was a tradesmen working outside, I was constantly surrounded by ravens. They would follow me around and circle me on my breaks. While taking public transport for about 6 months, the magpies took a liking to me. They would fly over to greet me, and a couple of them would hop along the side walk with me for about half a block. I have dozens of other stories. I never fed them or anything. Actually, reading it back, it's kind of creeping me out.
Going my entire life without feeling a connection like this....good for those birds though, they deserve happiness.
I never expected to see two adorable ravens ROLLING IN THE SNOW!!!❤❤ What a wonderful way to end such a beautiful day!
That’s amazing! They’re like little kids playing in the snow. 💞💞
Snow brings out the little kid in everyone. Even crows!! My dogs do the same thing. Delightful!!
0:11 why is bro acting like my cat when she is fighting another cat 💀
As someone who has two cats I thought the exact same thing, it's quite fascinating.
Super cute how they play ❤. I also keep forgetting just how lightweight birds are.
I love the words “goofy ravens” I just think its so funny
No way. Are you kidding me. Rolling down hill ! That's too awesome. I've seen my crows dive in the sky but not roll!
The dogfighting aerobatics they do are amazing. Saw a bunch of them doing it at Mt Tabor. Also recently I saw one doing it all by himself. Could be a bug hunting skill they learn. Definitely useful for when they group up to ward away the predators. They're so cheeky, they know I'm the guy with peanuts out walking so they'll swoop down and flap right by my head like a kid tapping you on the shoulder then running away. haha
Google "sledding crow" and you will find a video of a crow using a plastic lid to slide down a roof, and also crows sliding and rolling down the windshield of a snowy car.
It's really mindboggling. Fascinating birds.
They never had to worry about crowvid!!
I love ravens and crows. They are extremely intelligent.

About four years ago I raised a crow that fell out of her nest. That fall an early winter came and that was the last time I saw of Sandra the crow. Two years later, in the spring, I was planting my garden when a crow landed about ten yards from me on a fence crowing uncontrollably at me, so I looked up and it's Sandra! She flew straight for me like a dive bomber and eased her wings out to catch enough air to gently land on my shoulder! I thought it was a dream or a scene out of a movie! We both went into the house to get some bread for her and her friends when the wind took the door out of my hands and scattered that years tax records I was preparing to send in to Uncle Sammy when Sandra gathered up all the loose papers when she then pulled out a calculator and a number two pencil and completed that years tax returns for me in less than half the time it takes my accountant, and for one quarter the price.
Sandra's really smart! She's a crow!
I love animals, I love birds, I love insects, I love flowers, I love plants, I love nature. They’re so innocent, so beautiful, so playful, so pure. I love these beautiful creatures 🥰🥰🥰🤍🤍🤍🤍
