Paolo is from Scotland, his band members are from all over the UK. He started by signing with Atlantic Records when he was just 18. His first album was released in 2006 when he was 19. Second album was 2009 when he was 22. Third 2014 when he was 27. It's been 7 years, and there are clues that he's about to release something new soon.
Live, he is amazing. Choose any live video on RUclips, any year, and he's nailing it every performance. No Other Way live on Jools Holland is perfection.
Please explore more Paolo. He's so versatile and talented.

Kaito I think your reflections on the piece and on Paolo are really beautiful. When witnessing moments of true art, those rare occacions when the artist and the art are in pure communion, it is unmistakable--we can no longer tell the singer from the song--all artifice drops away, and we emerge humbled and a little more human. Paolo can do that. Amy could do that. And I can see that you have the courage to let this art pierce through to your heart and change you. Well done, my brother 🔥

Have to say, the click you hear from the snare drum in the second verse, is called a cross stick. A rimshot is when a stick hits the snare head and the rim at the same time. Hope this doesn't sound patronising. I drum and often see cross stick and a rimshot being confused for each other.

Like I said, I could've and wanted to say so much more about this performance, but sometimes it's best to let the music explain itself. It seems to have hit you the same way it hit me. Paolo Nutini is a Scottish singer who flew under the radar because he never seemed to care about the hype, and almost never seemed to want the attention. He comes across as a true ARTIST. A few more songs of his for you to check out on your own are Let Me Down Easy, Scream, and Better Man. I personally like all of the acoustic live versions of all of these, but to each their own. If youre looking for similar artists I would suggest an Australian band called The Teskey Brothers. Their live session at Gum Gully is a phenomenal vibe. On a side note, fun fact about Charlie Chaplin that is not very well known is that behind his comedy and acting, he was a composer. Some of his songs still live on today without anyone even realizing that it was him behind them. Judging by your reactions and you mentioning wanting to hear some funky jazz, i had a feeling this was gonna hit you. Your return breakdown nailed the essence of this performance. It's nice seeing someone truly appreciate it for what it's wortth. Glad you enjoyed it man!

    • @wordsmyth5979
      @wordsmyth5979 3 года назад +2

Haha Chaplin was the man! His most recognizable piece of composition is Smile. It was composed for one of his movies in the 30's I think, and then was performed with lyrics for the first time in the 50's by Nat King Cole. Since then there have been a lot of covers of it. The last one I think I noticed was in the Joker flick with Joaquin Phoenix a couple years back. I don't think there are too many folks that know that little fact about Smile and Chaplin. He was truly an independent artist. Like you said, he did it all man!

There is a common thread to soulfull Scottish singers...Bonn Scott (ACDC), Alex Harvey, Maggie Bell, David Byrne (Talking Heads), Paolo, Glasvegas, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream...etc etc etc..all have a certain vulnerability to the soul in their voice...

Meanwhile I have watched so many Iron-Sky-reactions, but yours is by far the best! You have analyzed it with knowledge and I especially appreciate you coming back after listing to it three more times after understanding the whole concept of that song. For me Paolo’s voice is the strongest part, but the lyrics are so damn good.
For me as an American living in Germany it is always interesting that some musicians are as popular in the states and Europe. And some never made it over the ocean.
The German music scene is pretty lame; I have no real explanation for it. Germany are not good pop music.
With some exceptions like Henning May from “AnnenMayKantereit”
    ruclips.net/video/5r3B7yz6J68/видео.htmlsi=Ht_kAjy3XSjktNtG
    ruclips.net/video/Gu9OybxvqmI/видео.htmlsi=zDli661SLoO73edY
The by far best European musicians are situated on the British Island and Scandinavia.
Especially Scottland. I have no idea why, but Scotland is full of super gifted talents. That’s why a visited a Paolo Nutini-concert in Hamburg, when he was 18 or 19.
And it was NO disappointment, as expected.

The first song I heard of Paolo Nutini " I put my new shoes on" and he was already having an interesting voice and intonation and and unusual songwriting style yet more juvenile I think. But this one really tops it. In fact not so many people singing nowadays like him and he is the same category as Jeff Buckley and the other great vocalists. I think you if you like great vocalists you have to listen to him Angelina Jordan version of "Mount Everest". (4κ version on Rusty shackleford channel) She's from Norway and just finished three concerts in July. She's 16 years old with αlmost 10 years of experience of making music and performances on stage. And she's hyped all over the place on RUclips with her 170+ songs. you got to check her out. it's a 2.30 min. version, so you might to add a follow up of her cover of "suspicious minds" maybe even from the same concert, but her video version is also amazing

You should listen to a cover paolo does backstage with his sessional musicians and a few friends of his that have their own band but took time out to play and touring with Paolo. The song he covers is Arcade Fire -Wake Up and again just like Iron Sky, it's a powerful song with a powerful message in the lyrics and Paolo not only does the song justice, his version is amazing but there's something that I want you to see in the video, if you look at the guitarist playing rhythm, you'll see on the head a little Moon cresent. The guitar company is called "Moon" and they make guitars built from a meeting with the guitar maker who measures your body, your hand and they build the guitar to fit your body and shape, width, length of your hand, nobody will feel the connection with your guitar like you do because it is made to fit.
Do you know the Scottish band called Texas? Sharleen has had the company make several guitars for her. The company is based on Pollokshaws Road Glasgow, the quality is right up there and the company could have grown in a massive way but the owners wanted to keep the business small and personal. Check the guitar out on Paolo Nutini Wake Up Arcade Fire Cover on RUclips

Been a little while and you might have found out already but the guitar is a Fender Starcaster. It was discontinued ages ago and then reissued a while back. Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead is known for playing vintage ones. I had one for a while, really beautiful guitar, nice bright sound. Closest thing it sounds like is maybe a Telecaster but the hollow body gives it a bit of low end and a chimey tone that the tele doesn't have. Pretty unique as far as semi-acoustic guitars go with the thin maple neck as you say :)

If you're looking for an amazing vocalist and musician I very much recommend listen to Eivor, esp her song "Falling Free" at the Old Theatre in Torshavn. She does it all in one song, there is soul, there is folk and there is classical combined in one song in just her voice. At the same time the instrumentalization is somewhere between synth-pop and rock. You have to experience it to know what I mean.
