UK QUEEN HOSTS JUBILEE LUNCH FOR SOVEREIGN MONARCHS

Britain has come under criticism for inviting the king of Bahrain, whose Gulf state has been engaged in a brutal crackdown on political dissent, to a lunch on Friday celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.
The lunch in Windsor Castle was the largest gathering of foreign royals in Britain since Queen Elizabeth II's grandson, Prince William, was married to Kate Middleton last year.
Then, as now, the decision to extend an invitation to members of the Bahraini royal family has angered whose who are upset by the deadly violence deployed against demonstrators since protests erupted in the Gulf state.
Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa eventually skipped the royal wedding, saying he didn't want the controversy to tarnish the couple's happy day.
But on Friday Buckingham Palace confirmed that his father, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, attended the queen's lunch, along with some 45 other royal guests from around the world.
The Foreign Office, which advised Buckingham Palace on the invitations, said that Britain's ties to Bahrain allowed UK officials to talk frankly with the strategic island nation's rulers about "a range of issues including those where we have concerns."
Al Khalifa wasn't the only controversial guest dining at Windsor Castle.
Swaziland's King Mswati III, who is accused of living in luxury while his people go hungry, also attended the lunch.
Other guests included Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands; Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan; the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Nawwaf bin Abdulaziz al Saud.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry also attended the lunch.
The Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of Elizabeth's reign as Britain's monarch.

Queen Beatrix (Princess Beatrix) is pure class.

I watched this video just to see her 😂
she is. And yes - I am Dutch....
Hey girl....heeey....lol
I love her curtsy/non curtsy, she was also a Queen, well done.
Queen Beatrix has always been warm and generous. A very authentic person
The emperor and empress of japan are just so sweet 😁

It is amazing to see just how warm and ‘professional’ HM was at greeting her guests. Every guest was treated with the same lovely smile and grace and charm The Queen was world famous for. I so miss her.
HM the Queen rushed to greet the Emperor and Empress of Japan, what a nice friendship, Queen Breatrix too. 💖
Hello, Anne! How are you doing? It's lovely how the Queens greeted themselves. I hope you are fine and staying safe? This friendship could have started before the Great War. What do you think?
I love how happy the queen of the Netherlands was to see Queen Elizabeth the second.

She has respect for the Japanese Emperor and Empress because their Family line has traced all the way back to the 600 BC form a single family it was never questioned or political games to claim the throne in Japan and she respects that
That is amazing! It is another sign of the loyalty of Japanese people.I can think some corners in the planet, were a family couldn't rule more than some decades....
According to their "written" history, I don't believe for a second that family is 2600 years old with no breaks in the line, some of the emperors ruled over 100 years mythology and legend are what make them so "grand"
@@lindsey7951 For most of history the emperor's power was only symbolic and nominal, so there was no dispute around him. Even after the "Meiji Restoration", if I understand correctly, it remained so. The excessive importance given to what his figure represented - a kind of national superego - immobilized the emperor in the role of a living relic. Some scholars have noted striking similarities between this conception of deified royalty and that of some Pacific peoples who are possibly related to the Japanese. As for her lineage being 2600 years old and going back to the Sun Goddess, obviously that's a legend. In the first centuries of the Christian era, Japan was still in prehistory, it was with the influence of Korea and China, I believe that around the 5th or 6th century, that Japanese Antiquity begins.
Because technically he outranks her as an emperor.
They outranked her
Ahh the queen of Holland.. so sweet. They look like they're really good friends!!! 01:18
Beatrix has been good friends with Elizabeth since World War II. During the Second World War, the Dutch Royal Family stayed in London and Canada. Beatrix's father was also an RAF pilot in World War II.
Aren't they cousins?
@@marino27m
I am no Genealogy expert but I can assure you they are not close cousins. Most likely remote cousins.
@@marino27m they are cousins but very distant. The Dutch royal family are one of the few not descended from either Queen Victoria or Christian IX of Denmark

The Queen and The Emperor and Empress of Japan are good and old friends.
Interesting to notice she only walks in front to accept Emperor and Empress of Japan.
Pasan Bhathiya because the Emperors of Japan outrank E.ll , in fact she's supposed to bow to them, but monarch don't bow before another monarch.
stvh B He may be styled Emperor but the the Emperor of Japan is neither a head of state or government, just the symbol of the state. Queen is still Monarch of 16 countries and figurehead of 53 more. So yeah. She is considered senior to most royal families.
I don't know if Queen Elizabeth is supposed to bow before someone styled Emperor, but Japan is a major power; all the others are powers of lesser rank, even though some of them are wealthy e.g. the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Kuwait, with either lots of capital or oil.
Murray Aronson and the UK remains a global power. The Queen does not bow to anyone even though you're an Emperor. Technically she has a bigger kingdom or should I say the Commonwealth Realms as she is Queen over 15 other countries other than the UK. Plus she has ruled or haas been in the throne longer than HIM.

Japanes emperor and empress very cute 🥰😍
It is one of the rare occasions where Our Majesty the Queen is not wearing gloves. It would be rude to greet her equals with gloves.
Of course the reason she usually wears gloves seems more practical, which is that if you're shaking hands all the time gloves really help prevent the spread of germs.
@@RareSeldas That is not being practical, Seldas, Our Majesty is just being protective of herself. And we cannot blame Her for that. Actually Her Majestic gloves are not exactly preventing the spread of germs, bacteria and other disgusting viruses. The gloves are just spreading the microbes to the next person in the line who shakes hands with Our Majesty. I must agree that this subject is rather disgusting, but it is the truth of the matter.
@@anacletwilliams8315 huh, isn't that what I said? They help prevent the spread of germs, especially herself. Idk I suppose I think 'prevent spread' is broader and hence more encompassing of the role gloves play since I'm sure they also help her staff.
@@RareSeldas Well, Seldas, I think we are saying exactly opposite things. While the Royal gloves do protect Our Majesty the Queen from contracting a skin transmittable disease, at the same time the Royal gloves may be spreading those viruses, amoebas and other microorganisms to each and everyone who shakes hands with Our Sovereign, one after the other. Like a contagion frenzy if you can grasp that image. But what really matters here is that Our beloved Queen is protected, safe and sound. Long live the Queen!
@@anacletwilliams8315 Hmm, I see your point.
Imagine these gatherings before the Great War, now only a select few of countries have monarchies but in before 1918 most of Europe was a monarchy.
To be fair, there were fewer countries in Europe back then.
@@AlienTreeGuy very incorrect.
Hello, there! How are you doing? It's lovely how the Queens greeted themselves. I hope you are fine and staying safe? ✌️I strongly believe the war happen for a better reunion, don't you think so?

Constantine Glücksburg was ousted from the Greek throne in 1974 in a referendum which also decisively abolished monarchy (70%). Hardly a "sovereign monarch."
The Queens criteria for this lunch was to include those who had been monarchs as well as the current ones

SO interesting to see who bows to whom, and the kissing too. It's all strict protocol related to hierarchy. Also interesting seeing who Phillip bows to and who bows to him. I wonder if his old title of Prince of Greece and Denmark comes into play.
I didn't even think about that. Prince philip and the exiled king Constantine of Greece are close cousins
Elizabeth II is the Head of the primary line of the Sax Coburg dynasty, despite it being called the house of Windsor she's the Great Great Grandaughter of Queen Victoria so the British Monarchy has seniority so those who are also descended from Victoria's of other royal lines show deference by the kiss on the hand.
Queen Elizabeth regards the European royal families as beeing related to the Windsors, as they are. Queen Victoria was grandmother of Europe because all of her children married into every royals familie of Europe.
