Nice comment. A Royal head of state means that we can't get some awful politician at the head of our nation, getting paid back for some dubious political favour. A Republic isn't cheaper than a monarchy. Look at America, where just the presidential plane costs American taxpayers more than the total cost of our monarchy. The UK monarchy is actually self funding. The government gives The Queen the Sovereign Grant, but that is a percentage of the income of the private Crown Estate. The government keeps the balance, about £300 million a year.

You are not in any way expected to bow or curtsey to foreign monarchs, same as any foreign citizen is not expected to bow or curtsey to our Sovereign. However, you are certainly allowed to, if you wish to show them respect, and it is a sort of rule for members of Royal Families - you probably noticed that both Princes present at the ship, the Duke of Kent and the Earl of Wessex, bowed to Their Majesties. As for Mrs. May, whatever one might feel about her, she was the Prime Minister of a Monarchy, and she most definitely was well instructed on matters of royal etiquette, as they all are, and I personally cannot imagine she would choose to insult visiting heads of state from a very friendly nation.
