Great movie, saw it last night! Hello from New Zealand
Can't wait to see this movie...OK so I saw this movie and I cried like a baby...there are a few scenes that make me cry but the one that really makes me weep is when they meet up by accident out walking one afternoon and she starts apologizing for how she treated him after the tragedy and she kept asking him to have lunch...they were crying, I was crying so hard I had to put a towel over my face so I wouldn't make too much noise!
Thanks Maddie. Have not seen yet but I am glad I saw your review first so if I see I can go prepared. Having worked on a Burn Unit for many years, you never get used to death and now that you talked about a fire, I will go in knowing how this will also trigger other thoughts for me :( So much preparation will be needed for me. However I don't mind crying at movies but this sounds like it takes you to another level. Many tissues will accompany me. Enjoyed your review and will let you know my thoughts after I do see it. Sounds like the movie accomplished what it set out to do and that is rock people's emotions .

Why is he not casted more? Brother's shadow? Movie studios don't want to make "too much money" for tax purposes? Can't do a good southern accent (or a non-Boston accent)? This guy has been on my excellent movie star radar for years, but he really blew me away with his performance in Gone Baby Gone. Maddie, if you haven't seen GBG, please, please, pleeeease watch it as soon as your eyes open.

what a emotional rollercoaster manchester by the sea was.
Lee doesn’t care about himself, but he cares about his nephew, having someone to be responsible for would give him a reason to live. Plus, he was a good dad and I’m sure it would be cathartic to be a father type figure again. But, he couldn’t handle it and I don’t blame him.

I will see this. Split was excellent. I know it's not an Oscar Contender, but it was really really good. I, uh, too went alone. :0/
