This movie took my breath away! Probably the most well done movie in my lifetime. I can't wait to buy it and play it all the time as background noise :)
The opening scene where they dance on the century and the harbor frwy transition was a little hokey. Yes, I live in the city of stars*** and know all the places they shot. The rest of the movie was amazing. Yes, 80's pool party band was awesome. Have a new appreciation for jazz, now.

Maddie @ the movies!!! But for your tweet, I would've missed this gem (the review). My daughter insisted I wait to see LLL with her. So I just saw it Sunday with my wife and daughter. I'm crying just listening to your review. Cynicism and empathy are not mutually exclusive. Watching them dance "among the stars" is plausible to the viewers because the film makers have successfully made us suspend our disbelief.
My daughter and I danced to "Fly Me to the Moon" at her Wedding. We've been listening to that song together since she was a little girl AND have played among the stars and seen what life is like on Jupiter and Mars.
I'll confess that part of me wished I left the theatre before Mia & Seb came back to reality. My only comment about the choices they made is this - Seb could've never told Mia about her casting call and lived a life where he pursued his dream and just had her come along for the ride. But sometimes the most sincere expression of real love is letting go. Seb loved her too much to steal that from her.
The alternate "happy ending" is even more dreamlike. Nothing goes wrong and they all live happily ever after. But that's not real life. The "what could have been" is enchanting. However, they each realized their dreams and based on that look they'll also love each other forever (just not together).
We need more movies like this. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kate Hudson, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. They can dance.
In your 20s and early 30's most would choose career.....Then you wake up and realize love is more imortant. This film is a warning to millineals that cant or wont commit to any sort of meaningful relationship then wake up in their 40s and wonder why they have no connection to the commuty other than their job. Just my perspective.
