When I watched Count Dracula as a kid on TV, I was thrown off by the mustache. I assumed Chris Lee was too stubborn to shave it off for the movie. (Like when Cesar Romero played the Joker.) But this film attempted to be closer to the Bram Stoker novel in which he does have a white mustache.
🤣🤣 I can imagine Gary! I'd seen stills from the film and always been confused as to what the look was all about 😵💫😵💫🤔🤔😁😁 i remember The Joker's tash in the 60s series 🤣🤣👍👍 I suppose Christopher Lee was trying to be as close to the source as possible 👍👍 it kind of works but I do think if this film had of been more graffic then it would have played better 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Good to hear it's a decent 4k release matey but yes like you say I'm sure this'll drop in price over time.. probably one I'll grab at some point but more likely on blu ray I think 😎👍
It's a beautiful looking 4k Marcus!! One of the best I've seen mate 😁😁👍👍 yeah the Blu Ray looks great as well and it's definitely going to drop in price I reckon soon Marcus 🤔🤩 cheers for watching mate 😁😁👍👍
I know Josh!! Its a set that does complete justice to the amazing soundtracks in it!! It just shows you that there are some AMAZING horror related vinyl out there 🤔😁👌 cheers for watching Josh 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John, great review. 88 films are definitely pushing up their prices on 4k. I'll definitely get this on blu ray. If you can find Jack The Ripper (1976) is another good one Franco directed. All the best 👍
Hi Gary, cheers mate 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah they are sadly 🥴 the blu ray looks amazing it has to be said Gary 🤩🤩 I haven't seen Franco's Jack the Ripper yet, so I'll keep an eye out for it Gary 😁😁👍👍
No problems Andy 🤩🤩👍👍 it's definitely different to other stuff from that time mate, maybe if it came out before the Hammer Dracula movies and not in the middle of them it would have got a better fan base possibly? 🤔😁😁👍👍
I love collecting dracula movies especially the Christopher Lee ones, I recently won a Dracula bluray on Ebay the 1970s Jack Pallance one, his acting isn't the best but some of the scenery shots are great I just love the old hammer horror movies Countess dracula is a really good one, thanks for the review mate I will check it out 😉👍
Yeah can't beat Christopher Lee as Dracula in any shape or form 🤩🤩👌👌 I remember that Jack Palance Dracula film 😁👍 Countess Dracula is another classic!! Cheers for watching mate, I would try for it in a sale if you can 🤔🤩👍
I saw that Dan Curtis version of Dracula with Palance a while back on Talking Pictures TV and enjoyed the film more than I was expecting. A nice bloodsucking surprise for my money.😉👍
Freddie Starr vamped it up with a typically zany take on Dracula in '85's The Freddie Starr Comedy Express and Sammo Hung disguised himself as a portly prince of darkness in Kung Fu classic, The Victim. Jimmy Nail also made a small reference to Dracula in the seminal second series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. "I told you never to wake me in daylight, slave!"😁
Beautiful set that trilogy box isn't it John? I do indeed have it, I showed you it on one of the very early Nasty livestreams we did. You were mesmerized by the colours. I'm so glad you got one mate, do you have all 3 Vault Of Horror records now? I've got the Count Dracula 4K but I've not watched it yet, I've never seen it before either - I'm kinda expecting it to be more like the Warhol Dracula than Hammer so fingers crossed I like it. Thanks a million for the shout out mate, really appreciate it 🙂
Ahh yes, remember that now Nige 🤔😁😁👍👍 it's the first ever "swirly" vinyl I've got! Love it mate 🤩🤩👌👌 yeah got all 3 now! Stunning editions all round 😁😁👍👍 it's very different to Hammer or even Warhol so go in with an open mind on it Nige, got to say the 4k is one of the best looking from 88 😁😁👏👏 no problems, let me know what you think of it Nige 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I certainly will mate, I've wanted to see it for ages now. Oh fantastic, I'm so glad you got all of the Vault Of Horror records, they're absolutely fantastic. Even though the first 2 compilation one's are standard black vinyl, they're absolutely amazing quality, not just the heavyweight vinyl but the packaging and those really handy bonus CD's. Absolutely beautiful sets all of them mate. I'm over the moon you got them because I know what a huge fan of the Italian films AND the soundtracks from them you are. Excellent stuff bud 🙂
Yeah I was surprised to see them on black vinyl only because the other one was multi coloured 😁 but black is good, actually I got a white vinyl the other day, and white is meant to be a really noisy, but it was really quiet 🤔😁 the cd addition was a nice touch 👍 thanks Nige, yeah so pleased to get them mate, some of the best soundtracks out there!! 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Coloured vinyl has improved so much to when we used to collect back in the 80s John, most coloured vinyl nowadays sounds fantastic. I was actually hoping they'd do another volume to be honest, they're fantastic mate

@@MondoChelloveckMovies I was disappointed with the coppala film ! it`s bloated , over acted , and it comes across as a fim made by a man who had been told the story ,but never actually read the book ! I would have fired the screen writer !... but ! it could have been worse , it could have been made by tim Burton ! and we all know what he did to dark shadows ! lol
@josephmummerth good points Joesph 🤩🤩👏👏 I really had high hopes for his Dracula and I was confused by the whole film, it nearly came across as a parody in places 😬 I have Tim Buttons Dark Shadows but always think hmmmm not sure if I want to go there as I've heard poor things about it 😵💫🤩👍
@josephmummerth I haven't seen the original tv series so I might not be so bad for me, but I don't like when an original production feel is altered though 😬😬👍👍
Just did a review of this myself, Jon, and . . . well, ahem, let's just say my strong preference for Lee's Hammer Dracula films continues to remain unchallenged by any other Drac flick he did outside Hammer, not least this mediocre Franco effort (lol)!
I watched the start of your review Alan 🤩🤩 I'll go back to it after watching the movie again now 👍👍 I can understand why anyone would not care for this one mate! Yeah Hammer set the bar far too high didn't they Alan 🥴🥴 cheers for watching....we are just waiting for Furiosa to start at the pictures 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John. Thanks for your reply. Yeah, Hammer are definitely the best when it comes to making great Dracula films. Regarding this Franco version, it did have its moments, particularly the first part, where the Count entertains - or should that be "terrifies" (lol) - Harker at his castle. Very reminiscent of the opening chapters in Stoker's novel, where the Count initially appears as an old man before gradually becoming younger and younger, the more blood he gorges on. Lee certainly did a great job here. However, as you rightly said, the second part of the movie seemed to just lose its way. I am keeping it in my collection, though, as it IS, of course, another Lee Dracula movie, albeit not a Hammer one, and it is indeed a beautiful package from 88 Films, plus I love all those juicy extras (three great commentaries too). Hope you enjoy Furiosa. Have a nice Bank Holiday, John. Take care, mate.
@Truegho Hi Alan, yeah pretty much agreed with your video mate!! Its a shame that he made it at the same time as the hammer stuff, it could never compare! And also I think nothing has compared to the Hammer stuff since!! They definitely can't make an Origin Dracula movie now Alan 😬😬 they all need to have a twist and they should go back to Gothic as that was the best treatment mate!! 🤩🤩👍👍 really enjoyed Furiosa Alan, great entry into the Mad Max saga 😁😁👍👍 yeah have a good Bank Holiday as well mate 🤩🤩🤩👌👌👌
