As a fat guy just starting to workout, that shit is real. About a month into weight training for the first time ever, and I can barely bench press 90lbs for sets in the 8-12 range, but my leg press for sets is already at 500lbs. Fat guy legs are a real thing, apparently I've been training these hams for decades 😆
I used to compete internationally in Taekwondo and practiced in other martial arts - although micro loading was not a thing during my competitive days, we did use progressive weight training and plyos to increase our power and overall stability and resistance to the concussive nature of the sport. This product makes 100% sense to me - to be able to perform the sport specific movements in real time with weight distributed evenly without impeding the movement is priceless - you could use a heavier weighted vest but then the mechanics of the movement are not the same - the form you are trying to perfect is skewed. During practice we would easily perform 1,000 kicks of one type (a round kick per se) the slight overload provided by such a product would not break the development of the form we are perfecting while providing distributed resistance. This is not a product for gaining mass or increasing absolute strength but a tool to ek out power and strengthening sport specific movement. Still, I can see this as a benefit for those who would prefer body weight workouts, hit or any such movement needing resistance without the form breaking restrictions of heavier cumbersome vests. The downside is this product is pricey- I don’t know if this is for people who are trying to get the most bang for your buck and variability with home training equipment.
2lbs? That's pretty terrible, I thought it would be at least 4 or 5 times heavier than that. If I want to "micro load" I'm just going to shit after my workout instead of before.
I like the idea, i just feel like it's way to low weight. But the vest sort of spread out through the body seems way better than just strapping 20kg on your chest
Agree with Coop's assessment. The sighted study has WAY TOO MANY holes within. 1% gain is MAJOR in high performance athletics and there are too many factors and questions with that study to make sure it is legitimate. Love the honesty!
The best athletes are definitely better these days, but I wonder if a majority of the population might be healthier if the only options they knew about were push-ups, sit-ups, air squats, running / walking, pull-ups if you can find a bar and trees if you can't.
Some people make a lot of money on these gimmicks because collectors and well off people will buy gimmicks like this just to say they have them. Absolutely no benefit for owner of these gimmicks but they will show them off, proudly.
Still would love to see a review on cable attachments, especially different brands and their permutations within a particular shape (e.g., D handle) and MAG vs knock off mags. Would love to see how the knock offs stack up. I've only ever seen them compared 1:1 never MAGs vs every copy out there
Let's take the medium grips for this example. Real MAG grips offer different grip rotation positions from semi supination to semi pronation, with a little bit of wrist flexion for better grip. Knock off versions are all neutral grips but with different degree of wrist flexion, which is pointless.
Y’all knew this comment was coming….. can you review the Vulcan Thrasher air bike? You’ve reviewed every other bike in America and abroad. But not the Vulcan Thrasher. Pretty please with sugar on top. :)
I really like the idea of the fitted format of the vest and its comfort on the shoulder straps, but I think I'll reconsider purchasing because I do agree that the study was not enough and the price point is too high! especially since we can't add smaller weights to the vest. I was interested in the idea of microloaded vest-i.e. extra 'oomph' for sprints, trail running, HIIT, etc. training. Thank you for the review! OMORPHO should reduce the crazy price on the vest or keep as is and have option of adding on more micro-weights!
I kinda like the idea of the weight being loaded down the arms and legs rather than just wearing a vest. No idea how beneficial it is, and I'm not spending all the money to find out, but I kinda compare it to holding those egg weights when you shadow box. Really light weight but they are killer after a short amount of time. I would have to think the weight being on your arms and legs would have a similar effect, rather than just running with a weight vest. Although you could do both, wear the long sleeve shirt, and leggings, with a heavier vest.
Distributed weight definitely advantages over concentrated weight like a weight vest. The weights that these clothes add are so minuscule I have a lot of doubt about whether they do anything at all though. The long sleeve shirt and pants only add 0.5lb to each limb, distributed along the entire length of the limb. I'd wager that'd be as noticeable as wearing a watch, ie not very noticeable.
Microloading is verifiable for strength and muscle mass gains, just not sure if a real study has been done. Look at obese people, they essentially do long term progressive microloading on their calves, and across almost all other variable demographics, heavier people have bigger and stronger calf muscles to support that weight. If you walk 1000 steps a day with an extra 3 pounds on, that's 3000lbs your calves moved vs what they would move without the extra 3 pounds. If you're also adding that to your normal calf routine, it adds up. Let's say you do calves 2x a week on leg days, 5 sets of 20, with double your bodyweight of 200lbs. That's 80,000lbs lifted between the 2 days, spread across the 2 feet evenly, so 40k lbs a week per foot. If you wear an extra 2.3lbs for 5,000 steps a day(just more than average for americand), every day, that's 80,500lbs moved total, or 40,250 per foot. This effectively doubles the calf load volume per week, and is literally why bigger people tend to have massive calves(aside from the fatty tissue)
I bought a 10kg Opti weighted vest for the equivalent of $47. For what I need it for, it's great. I do circuits in it, including exercises such as burpees, press ups, pike press, mountain climbers, dips and pull ups. For the price, the quality is good, and it does the job.
I remember them , LOL little colored sugar dots. Do you remember the little wax bottles of colored water ,I believe there was like 4 in a package and they were about 2 inches tall.
It would also be interesting to see these studied as neurological primers as warmups for teams. It's a low enough load that fatigue wouldn't be an issue but they could make it heavy enough to activate the nervous system. It wouldn't take much weight to do that with regular movement.
Sweet, I always wanted to look like Killmonger! I don't think micro loading is useful unless you are doing some kind of constant state cardio. Like maybe walk for an hour or wear this while playing a VR exercise game might MIGHT be slightly beneficial. I know I can put on something as low as 2.5 lbs on my wrists and play beat saber for an hour and the next day my shoulders feel like I did an hour workout. I don't really think it is putting on any mass though. Just getting that "farmer strength" from long term isometric stress.
Im not giving up on the idea, Since I was a kid and seen Goku toss of his weighted boots and shirt. Ive thought of a few clothing designs my self the key is mobility, weight and even weight distribution. (Dont forget piccolo's hat.) Either that or bulid a room that can increase earth's gravity 😮
C'mon Coop, ya know this isn't worth reviewing. True transparency would be putting a spreadsheet on the GGR website of products either sent free for a review by scamming companies and/or requested by silly people that aren't worthy of a review and you wouldn't want to profit from commissions from affiliate links. I'm tired of the "honest" and "transparent" reviews of YT.
@GarageGymReviews.. why do you scammers think people are idiots? Oh because many are. Well... If I had telegram I would totally string you along right now. I once had a scammer believe I was Batman, imagine what you would be in store for.
It should be at least 5lbs, and in order to really "micro dose train" in those. They would have to be super tight to your body so you were utilizing the weight instead of it just hanging off of you.
My Army uniform boots, multitool, knife, belt and a couple other items adds 8 pounds to me. So I'm not sure this concept is making much of a difference maybe 10-20 pounds throughout the day would help but 5-8 isn't much.
Ya if you’re already consistent with loading 8lbs of weight , you need to perform cycles of use around 24lbs of weight. The long sleeve tee for this product is great for primitive movements or activities that require more flexibility and movements. Not as constrained w heavy weighted vests.
I think Omorpho is marketing to the wrong demographic honestly. Not much weight is needed to elicit an increase in bone density, especially with something like this that is seemingly well distributed over the body. So, who should be wearing this? Older adults that are trying to either prevent bone density loss or those rehabilitating after an injury. OR Youth athletes. The reason being the most youth athletes don't possess sound enough form for loaded jumps or really any dynamic movement that even slightly alters their center of gravity. BUT if you could evenly distribute the load throughout their plyometric workouts and sprint sessions, not only would they be getting the benefits of increased bone density for later on in their lives but the ability for additional load to be effectively used in their performance gains. The company is focused on the wrong side of the fitness spectrum. These garments would be perfect for young beginners as their bodies are primed for neurological and performance stimuli and for older adults trying to maintain bone density while taking their morning walk.
I'm curious your thoughts on the SoloStrength system. I've seen tons of ads for that. Almost got it too, but I feel like a PRx squat rack is an overall better direction to go

True! Seems like a good way to overheat with this weighted clothing.
well for cali, putting weights in the pockets will be more beneficial due to the weight distribution and the levers of the body
Yes it would but I wonder if the heat generated would be an issue - maybe if you lived in a colder clime it may be doable.
What a bummer.
