my goldfish brain is satisfied and ready to make a $6000+ decision
Keep your old bike and spend that money on a trip to the bike park you've always wanted to visit
@@gregtobin7285never!
@@gregtobin7285 it's a joke buddy
What is it gonna be? Pease don't say Trek
@@hannes6114 well right now I'm torn between Deviate Highlander, evil insurgent, orbea occom LT. There's a few more that I can't think of
All of the refinements to the fieldtest have been great this season. I really like the format, you guys are killing it.
This format is awesome. Nice way to sum it all up. Great job, guys!
I disagree. Better to watch the original review videos. Better yet, bring back the old round table discussion you all had after the field test. This new format is severely lacking.
I get an Attenborough-feel when you are standing on the side and talking us through this :)
In short:
Im keeping my 5 year old bike ar least another year (or more likely, until it catastrophically fails).
The idler problem on the trek seams to be really serious. Seen this problem coming up almost at every test video i watched
will be interesting to see how is trak going to approach it
Hope they can Trak the problem and solve it ;)

So my take is the "winner" is probably the HD6, with the Nukeproof and Commencal as close seconds, the 3 least gimmicky bikes.
Wow, just an awesome video! Strait to the point, quick, no nonsense review. I wish more vids are done in this fashion.
So, I will be keeping my 2018 Specialized Enduro Ohlins Coil LTD edition and my V2 Santa Cruz Bronson, because they are still kicking ass and why waste money on a new bike when what you have is already brilliant. Very little innovation has occurred in the past 5 years which has made a significant change to bikes. Just ride what you have and spend the money you save every year on a holiday or weekend away riding.
You have summarised perfectly one of the main reasons why the bike industry is in trouble. I have a 10 year old Rose downhill bike on which I have installed newer elements (second hand). The bike is great! Not as good as some of the newer bikes of course, but not worth these crazy amounts.
True story, for the extra cash needed I can take a sick bike trip to Canada all the way from Holland
@@SibrenFettermy friends or some are racing locally in south america with over 8 years old DH bikes with new conponents and doñas well as the new ones even better in some aspects why change its not like tecnology thease things advance very slowly takes even decades, cellphones Pc others etc take months to improve
Well done. You know what would be great? For each bike, complete the statement, "This is the bike for you if ________."
I like the presentation of the wrap up this year, but I do miss the longer format field tests.
This video is awesome. Commentary overlayed with the riding is fantastic
Ah just the right amount of time for my morning 'loo visit.
Really looking forward to seeing the Darco in a trail bike field test, there isn’t much video content for the *arguably* more exciting of Chromag’s full sus lineup
Trek -Pros it’s a bike
- Cons Everything Else !!!
The Commencal might be my new dream bike
Ok ill take one of each
Excellent video I like the staight to the point flow !! 👍🏼
Now Henry forgot the mention the chain drop on the Slash was due to the lower chain guide idler being installed minus a spacer and that they were able to remedy it once the problem was discovered.
Henry is getting better, just need leeve back with him
3:42 Trek Slash chain drop several time during test :P
I would love to see some big brand going with Pinion.
i want that nicolai
but in carbon, with a floating brake and external routing
then it would be a more efficent moderate high pivot with no derailleur headache(this would be a bike i would buy asap)
but if i want an alloy enduro tank with bullit proof drivetrain i would get the Kavenz with a gearbox and a belt(so i could ignore mud and dont have to clean and lube drivetrain parts after muddy rides and have a stronger rear wheel and more traction)
Why the high pivot and a floating brake? Sounds like the worst of both worlds.
@@Henry-Quinney high pivot for axle path and a floating brake to get the anti rise down(i want traction under breaking(the geo should prevent feelings of going OTB)).
practicly i want a more sophisticated high pivot bike (for the same reason Forbidden changed theyre suspension from the druid V1 to V2(they decoupled the brake) or Norco did going from the Aurum HP to the Range(also reduction of anti rise) and many more)
PS
for non nerds: high single pivot bikes have high --> very high anti rise values
Fair enough - sounds like my idea of hell to be honest.@@harrie205
So which one would be best for racing?
Where are these trails? 🚲🚲🚲 Aftermarket parts and modifications can solve these issues 🤓
Who want to fix their chain all the time? Buy a Trek!😂😂 How did that big company make a release like that?
Why call out low stack height as a drawback? It's the easiest thing in the world to fix by just slamming on a high-rise bar, whereas if the head tube was too long for a rider they're basically boned if they're already running a low rise or flat bar.
It's like complaining that the seat tube is too short when you're just got a 125mm dropper in it.
It's also a weird comment when the Ibis is not even a low stack when compared to the rest. The difference between large frames is 10-15mm in the whole test.
@@beno9966 @Nicoya Same thing about the fork performance. Half of them are running the same fork, surely it's just a matter of setup?
Commencal's Clash is a great 27.5 Enduro bike as well, but... for some reason, all you mtb youtube content creators/influencers only feature and show 29ers and mullets? Why do you alienate the other riders and discriminate against their love for technical and playful riding? 29ers and their bastard offspring the mullet (which acknowledges the effectiveness of 27.5 wheels) are not the be all end all bike for everyone, nor would the 27.5 be the same. It's a blend of ALL sizes that you and the industry needs to showcase! Different bikes for different riders.
I’d honestly be more interested in a Pole Vikkelä, Nukeproof Mega (tested), Propain, Knolly or Devinci Chainsaw for sub $5K 🤷
Good luck getting a pole
If you are ok with the change in reach.... would the HD6's issue with low stack height be alleviated with spacers underneath the stem & higher rise bar?
Higher rise bar would fix it right up. it is lowish 630mm stack, though the Giga is only 631 reach both in size L. For comparison the Commencal Meta V5 is 642 reach and the RM Altitude is 638mm and the Specialized Enduro is mere 629mm.
Ya. They really latched onto a super minor thing in my opinion. I guess that speaks to how good the bike is if that's all they have.... add a couple spacers and a different handlebar.
I find the stack comments odd. Most are around 630, the highest being around 645 comparing large frames. Hadly a huge difference.
I wonder if we should also factor looks in reviews. After all, we do also spend a lot of time staring at our bikes. I, for one, have been turned away from some bikes largely due to looks.
Agreed. If a bike is good looking, it rides better 😋
the looks factor is always considerd(by the viewer)
Ngl this crop of bikes is giving me the opposite of buyers remorse for my current bike 😆
Trek slash well……the chain falls off 😂
Did Paul the punter do your thumbnails? Soooo many ✅️❌️🤣
He probably didn't since its mtb related sadly :(
Why is the suspension on all the bikes set so soft, they are bottoming out on small bumps and holes 🙄
haha the first line
Nukeproof for the win🎉
I love you
Bankrupt ftw
Anybody else miss 2016 geo? I should have never sold my Ibis HD3 😢
So. If I were considering buying the Ibis, sticking a -1 degree angleset & dropping the fork travel to 170mm would sound like a good way to steepen the seat angle a bit, slacken the head angle by half a degree & help with fork packing issue you had? I guess a high rise bar would go some way to getting the front end a bit higher too?
Why the hell is a LOW stack height a "drawback" u can add spacers or a high rise bar. Makes no sense to gig the hd6 for that
It's almost that simple, but not quite. Stay tuned.
4 minute gang?
Trek: back to the drawing board fellas
I miss the old format and I miss Levy
Would like to see the test ride review of the electric equivalents of these bikes
What is "tracking?"
how it moves through terrain in a straight line. ie it tracks well in the root section meaning it stays planted and more or less straight as it tackles the terrain
@@AlexOsh Bit of a confusing term, doesn't this have more to do with tires and less to do with the bike itself? Also rider weight and ability? I'm new to this, but not sure how the bike frame plays in this.
@@YoungBoom3rhow well a bike "tracks" is mainly determined by the suspension setup and characteristics of the suspension design. Rider ability has some to do with it but certain frame designs will just do better than others in different situations
All you need to know is that everything will be overpriced, overhyped and not really that great
It's a buyers market for last years bikes right now, have you not seen all the discounts for many of the brands?
That’s a Nukeproof Giga not a Mega
How did he know I was
.................................however
Can confirm - am pooing
How comes theres never scott ransoms in videos. Theres none. Are they crap or something
Hrnnn...that poo went too well...looks like I'll have to watch this in stages.
I wish we could see Mondraker here
Semi-arduous poo 😂
No one cares about racing, freeerideeeeee
Great presenting Henry. Little mistake saying nukeproof mega, but all good
