It's not even just Zerode, its Lahar too who you could say had a bigger impact on the gearbox bikes but sadly they didnt capitalise on it because the guys mental.
It’s great to get this hype and small insight into the development journey. This team/organisation is so impressive and a credit to all involved. The bike looks amazing! Can’t wait to see how it stacks up.
This surge of belt driven bikes is going to make this racing season more exciting. These development videos are awesome. I'd like to more nerdy discussions about details and kinematics and stiffness, but maybe a lot of that is top secret. The bike looks rad.
Always seen the attraction of gearbox bikes but they have always been really niche but now this is really going to push them on, not long now when we will have low maintenance drive trains that are quiet and don't self destruct in British winters 👍🏻
I’ve been riding a peregrine cycles high pivot pinion frame for the last few years, love it! Stoked for this! This small frame builder has been building this design exclusively since at t least 2015
Great video, what an exciting project. Stoked to see the gearbox route, how cool. Also shout out to the great liquid and chill dnb music in the background, so rad
What’s not said in this video…. Look we figured out suspension and frame integration and suspension design for when we make an ebike using pinions motor gearbox unit!!!!
One big advantage of belt drive is that the rear hub doesn't have to have such a wide body for something as wide as the cassette to mount on. It makes more room for the spokes to be mounted to the hub further apart and increasing the lateral stiffness of the wheel. There isn't yet hubs like that but would be a good place for improvement.
DT, Hope, and Hadley make 142mm spaced single-speed hubs. They use wider flanges with zero dish, and a short freehub body with spacers that allow for aligning the chainline (or 'beltline', new term). I would love to see them used on these bikes, it allows for a narrower rear end and better heal clearance.
A big reason gear box bikes are only now being accepted as the best solution in an off road environment is the massive industry behind drivetrain parts, Shimano and SRAM do not want you to severe your dependance on them, otherwise they both would have had their own by now (oil bath and proper machine cut gears, not an ‘internal derailleur system’).
Such an awesome looking bike can't wait for the day I'm good enough to need / justify such a machine but great to see a British company at the cutting edge AND actually winning, here's to 2025
I bought my bike 3 years ago from a company based out of NYC called Priority Bicycles, and a major selling point was the single speed Gate's carbon belt drive system that came standard on the bike. In fact, they specifically only offer Gate's with their bikes. They make a variety of bikes for most applications, but definitely not a dedicated DH bike like the Atherton. So, its really cool to finally see this carbon belt drive system being utilized on MT bikes. Honestly, idk why other mtb companies haven't embraced the Gate's system.
I bought a Priority bike for my son and the drivetrain has been very reliable after 3 years. BUT, the brakes and general component spec isn't good at all. Also, the gear ratio is very flatlander focused and not made for a small child to climb hills. Just observations from another Priority owner.
Exciting times at Athertons, British development at its best, gearboxes are the way forward👍 in these difficult times for the mtb community🤔 good luck guys👍
Knew it wouldn't take long to do this when you brought the DH frame out. I've thought of a few that could adopt this tech that is long overdue. Great work 👍
Love the bikes and I am hoping that maybe you will be doing the Enduro with a belt drive as I think I will go this route for my last bike. I would love it to be a Atherton bike if possible.
Interesting that other brands have been touting gearbox bikes for a while now but somehow now Atherton are releasing something it seems more real and something to be excited about.
What we really need is timed runs against a bike with chain and rear mech to see which if any is the better ,faster set up . This is racing at the highest level so no gimmicks just speed counts
Did you watch the video with no sound? Literally said they ran timed laps at Llangollen on both. Box bike was sluggish in certain areas but felt tracked, so certain changes to the first iteration were needed My presumption is they not what they are doing and have a pretty experienced R&D squad.
Has anybody done any data acquisition of time in each gear, of that time was the rider pedaling and when pedaling was it putting power down or just spinning on a traditional drivetrain on a variety of WC courses? Perhaps it was stated but what Pinion gear box are they using?
I would like to see belt drive for revers recumbent trikes. It's just a mater of belt length and a center jockey wheel to Carrie one or two belts what ever would be the best application.
props to Zerode that hold this idea many years, finally its the future
It's not even just Zerode, its Lahar too who you could say had a bigger impact on the gearbox bikes but sadly they didnt capitalise on it because the guys mental.
Well I just found my new DH frame. Can't wait to see this brought into production.
That is an effing beautiful bike. I can’t wait till they come into commercial production. I want one.
I love the engineering and behind the scenes looks into what you guys do. Makes a Gear Nerd like me happy!

this is the future! and i am usually complete against new "trends"
I'm only against pointless changes and new standards, but belt drive is definitely not one of those. I would love to have this bike.

That'd be the motherload/holy grail bike setup, 100%!
To be at this point in that time frame is just incredible, well done guys.
Stoked to see this at some races this season!
This will be a perfect trail bike in Florida
Starting to look like you all want it and how the industry needs it .. very nice 👌🏻

@@MrHypermoto Zerode spec a 142x12 hub as standard on their Katipo 👍

This is an ultimate dream bike of mine. Pinion + High Pivot+ DW. Great job guys. Can't wait to see it behind race tapes
Did they say it’s actually “Pinion” ? Or another gearbox ?
@@gnarlyfox its gates
@@gnarlyfox 7:16 that looks like a pinion gearbox. Just my thoughts though. Could possibly be something else.
@@Montytobin a gates gearbox ?
it’s absolutely a pinion smart shift gearbox. Gates is the belt manufacturer.
That first run down I bet was WILD.
These need to go into production.
Please do it on the all range of atherton bikes !!!
Finally some real innovation RIP the derailleur & chain

Sweet, the coil shock of drivetrains ?
Looks like it eats up bumps, would be fun to ride one of the DH bikes
Awesome video and project!
Looks fantastic 👌👌👌

Love this…

After the first time I rode my priority I knew pinion and gates was the future.
Looking Good! 😍🤩
Nice....due 100k USD reward we will see more belt drives this year! I want it on DH and also on my ebike!
That’s what dreams are made of right there ! When do they go into production? I want one badly
Beautiful machine 😊 🤤🔥🔥🔥
Impressive! 🔥
Love the innovation! when is the Enduro eeb coming?
Just the silence will give immense confidence to most riders. That alone will probably make up a lot of time.
I would LOVE to test out a belt drive just to see the difference in performance
I ride specialized buth these atherton bikes looks so sick and really strong i going tho look for a. Enduro atherton ❤❤❤
That rear-end is more active than a roadman shotting 10 bits!
Awesome looking bike and fun to see the process in developing it. How many speeds are in the Pinion gearbox for a DH bike?

We just need it to trickle down more to enduro and trail bikes, oh and then for the prices to also drop a bit.
Looks great though.
Yes yes yes. ❤
100K reasons to want to see this succeed 😂

The next Step for Bike Industry is done!
swing it to the left, swing it to the right, building cool shit is out of sight!
is it just a prototype or is it gonna be ride on World Cup !
Sickkkkk
just the beginning!

One step closer to my ultimate dream.....just add a motor......there,.... i said it😅
cant wait to see bk on this wen he signs
My bet is BK retires with pivot
That was interesting, may earn you a 100lk. Now make an eeb and make millions.😊
i want to enduro that thing(give me enough seatpost insertion depth)
Andi Kolb already regretting, that he went to YT...
Doubt it considering the money YT are paying him
This. 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌍
wwowwwwwww other level
Cmon! I thought I just bought the new shit! Lol

Cool but would prefer the gearbox , cogs etc to be same colour as the ti lugs.
