The sad fact is the mother doesn't really care enough to do anything, it was even the kid who contacted the cleaner for help, not the adult in the situation. I think the timer idea is a GREAT idea! Having cleaned my own depression home, or having friends come over and help me clean, people don't understand that it takes DAYS - like 9am-9pm for the living room and kitchen over a weekend. Putting an iPad with a full-screen timer, or an analog clock in the shot would be a really awesome way for people to see how long these things actually take you.

Truly love what you do. I don’t know the mother’s situation but my Mum and brother were like this. Among other things, they left trash, food and plates everywhere, never cleaned and it was hard growing up like that. We lived in the UK so we would get lots of house flies and carpet bugs. I tried my best to clean when I got home from school but it became too difficult to maintain. I ended up suffering with childhood depression and I only felt better after moving out. That’s why I love what you do Auri! You help as much as you can and I can see your genuine passion about what you do. Cleaning is a demanding and sometimes gruesome task, but it does wonders for mental health to have a clean space to live in. The strange thing about pest control is, that nobody wants to admit that they called them. I had an internship for 4 weeks at a pest control company, most of our work was "monitoring" if there was a problem at all (you lay out glue traps to control if any bugs got caught). We had to service the supermarkets very very early in the morning so that nobody would see the car in front of the supermarket. But EVERY store has bugs not and then. Even the hardware stores. So it is actually a good sign to see pest control somewhere, because somebody is taking care of the bugs at all!
I think the key to not having bugs is don't feed them: store food in closed containers, don't leave any leftovers lying around. But the warmer the country, the higher the risk of getting bugs anyway - don't be ashamed to call pest control!

When I lived in Texas I never had cockroaches in one house because the scorpions ate them. Be careful what you wish for! And you’re right-never leave any food or crumbs out anywhere. This doesn’t eliminate cockroaches but it reduces them. I am always alarmed when I hear people say, “Oh, just leave the dirty dishes. I’ll clean up in the morning.” These people have never seen a cockroach or an ant infestation. Roaches will eat anything and can live a long time with no food at all. They ate my rubber spatulas to get at the microscopic oil left on them after washing. Yuck.

Auri, I've been a fan of yours for months now and have seen all your videos and already adore you immensely...but this house you cleaned was a new level. You are a living, breathing angel helping these people the way you do. I grew up with a single mom and three siblings, and due to our mother's state of mind and alcoholism, our house or apartment was always in a horrendous state. I had friends who would come over to help me clean every now and again. It always meant so much to me, even then, though especially in hindsight. What you are doing for these families, especially children, is huge. I remember being a child and thinking I wasn't good enough because I didn't have clean spaces like other people. I strongly believe these dirty environments are representations of how these individuals feel about themselves...a representation of their self worth at that time. By giving them the non-judgemental help that you do, I strongly believe you are helping their souls more than you know; perhaps especially the children.
    God bless you, Aurikatariina

I think she's a terrible person. Not because of the mess, not at all! I don't judge when it comes to however dirty the house is, i keep it minimally judment free when it comes to the dirt. I think she's horrible for making her child reach a level where she sleeps SITTING down a COUGH. This is super fucked up. At that point, she should've used her child's discomfort as a motivator to do better. Sure, everything esle is already horrible, but that had to be the breaking point to literally see your child sleep in such a way, and for years too. Mind blowing to me. I don't wish anything well to the mom, I find her to be disgusting (literally too). I just hope she can do better at least (but I doubt it, as others mentioned). the only person I feel so bad for is the child. POOR THING.

Thank you for the well wishes. I do not live in an apt though. It's more the edge of nowhere and the garbage has to go 1/4 mile up a steep hill and I don't have a car or anyone but my dog and a sled or cart to help take it there and it can only be done on one particular day otherwise bears, crows and other animals get into it. So if I don't feel well enough that day that week it doesn't get done. I also can't burn it due to allergies. So I put any food waste that's safe out for wild animals to eat. Most of the garbage is literally cardboard boxes which the garbage pickup won't take in winter since it all has to be in plastic bags due to frost laws. But most of the boxes won't fit in a bag lol I put the rest of the garbage in bags and keep it in the garage to take out when I can so it's not in the house. Let’s face it, “Nicole” and “Rihanna” have been living in far worse - they’re sleeping on a manky bogging couch every night, so at this point I don’t think it’s going to bother them if a roach or two is under the mattress. They’re more than aware of worse at this point.

About roaches, since you're not from here: If you keep your house clean, you won't have roaches. If you keep dishes done and your food stored properly, then no problems. IF a few roaches come into a clean home, they came from outside or a nearby house, and you can immediately spray to keep them from staying and multiplying. They only stay if they have things to eat (food and garbage). Same with grocery stores. They HAVE to keep things clean. If they do, no roaches. But grocery stores and restaurants especially have to keep a close eye to prevent them. When we first moved into our home, it was evident that there had been some cockroaches from the former owner, and we had to battle them (not many) for a few weeks. But they have NEVER come back and we have lived in this house for almost 30 years now.

She is giving them a chance to start over, but it is not the ultimate solution, as Auri probably knows. Roaches don’t appear in schools and stores because they are sprayed to keep them under control. If the mom and girl leave the house during the day, they can spray to kill back the infestation.

This is abuse and neglect of that poor little girl. I'm sure her mom is suffering and struggling, and I feel for her I really do. But that child needs to be removed from this environment. I'm amazed that officials at school didnt notice that she hadn't had access to a shower or clean clothes. I almost never advocate taking children from their parents, but in this case I think the mom has demonstrated that she's incapable of taking proper care of her daughter. I know she probably wants to, but she can't. Someone needs to do something about this

I think they coped… the washing Maschine seemed to be working and the dryer was used. The sink in the bathroom had a cup they might have used to wash themselves - and it seemed relatively clean. I saw people without a home going to the cemetery’s restroom to make themselves respectable before going to work. They probably hide as much as they can. Well, the cockroaches hiding in bags and clothes are something different…

I waited for this video all week, checking every day until it was there! Good job, guys! Under all that trash and all the bugs, I was so sorry to see the holes in the walls, need for new paint, etc. I do hope that the building management jumps in to do repairs after you finish cleaning! Also, this mother obviously needs psychotherapy, because she must be extraordinarily depressed to raise a child in that mess. I was so glad to hear that she is employed, so at least some money is coming in.
Please, please, Mom: For your daughter's sake, keep the place clean after Auri and her brother leave! If you let the place slip even a little, it will be as bad as it was before they came to help!
And Auri, you and your brother are angels. Not many people would continue to work after discovering all the cochroaches. I'm not sure I could. Your desire to help is exceptional.

Cockroaches love warm climates to breed and of course a food source. Also stuff lying around encourages them to nest in the trashes. (😂) It is usual in warm climates to have your house treated for pests at least once a year, that is why you don’t see them everywhere else. If you have a food source, trashes (😂) a warm climate and no pest control you have a perfect storm for infestation. Love your channel Auri Kateriina

Don't listen to the hate comments about the couch. You can only do so much. You can't do it all. You got the home to the point where the mom could get some new furniture and give her daughter a better life. You get the person to the point where they can start helping themselves. And if people are that worried about it, they can always donate the furniture themselves.

I have a roach phobia. A roach can live off a 10 in strand of hair for 1 year. General cleanliness won't stop someone from getting roaches, but it will help to see a problem before it gets too large, potential entry points, and nesting areas in the home. In America, the further south with high humidity climate, the higher chance of roaches getting into a home. I live in central Florida, and we do DIY monthly chemicals in and around the house to catch it before it starts. It largely works, although one of the jumbo roaches will slip in every once in a while, especially during the rainy season. The best one we use, in my opinion, is the one that has a reproductive inhibitor, which doesn't allow them to have babies.

@@1justbritt that stuff was so thin that 98% of it was in the water in the first five seconds, it wasn’t clinging and therefore, wasn’t breaking down any of the limescale. The fact it “worked” is more to do with her constant scrubbing and chipping away at the grime with cleaning tools more than the liquid product.
Use a product that’s thin like that in your loo, you’re basically just paying for a very expensive coloured flush. It’s doing little.
