Thanks for your work to create this post. I'm experincing the same condition on my 2020 Telluride, has gotten worse with current tempertures of zero and lower at night at my location.
Thanks for posting this. I'm going to have to swap out the housing for a new one because the *oil change place did exactly what you talked about. Overtightened the oil filter cap and cracked the housing. Anyway... Your video was very helpful
Awesome! Glad it helped! It’s really a pretty easy job. This seems to be a common problem that shouldn’t be a problem but at least it’s a pretty quick fix either way.
i have 2021 with 100k miles started small drips after i got oul change the weather also got colder but didnt factor in the weather. I climbed under and saw what i thought was a flat gasket/o ring seal between the housing and oil filter canister and it had drips. snapped a few pictures and took it back to valveoline. I showed them pics and told them it looked as if they didnt place the seal/o ring in place and might be squished. They tooped off . 2 added and said they fixed. The weather got colder and 6 days later more oil on my concrete. i climbed back under and the seal still seammed to be out of place. i went back to vavleoline this time a bit frustrated but said hey you guys didnt fix and oil leaking more. The only thing i also noticed from the first time is the bottom of my oil pan was wet my suspension arm was wet and the canister. they looked and said that the picture i had wasnt a seal but part of the design in the plastic housing where the canister met the housing. strange design but oul was finding its way to that area but was leaking somewhere at the top of the housing. they said there may be a seal at the top of the housing this time they added .6. (the weather has been colder here in texas. i made sure they were torquing the canister right they said they did it at 18ftp which after your video im seeing might be too loose but im going to double check the specs. I do not know much about motors but i have commone sense and im thinking i have two leaks. One as in this video and the other on my oil pan gasket. i imagine the oil pan gasket is a very slow leak which i can manage and change if it gets worse but this seal as in the video woth the colder weather is more than likely the reason im losing 1/3cup of oil a day. Just righting all this in case someone has similar issues. The vavloline guys ended up doing a good job and helping me figure little more out with what they could see
My son told me that the 2020 KIA SUV he's gonna borrow for a month or two has an oil leak from the ''Oil Filter Housing''... I'm not sure which model it is. but I assume that it's the same type of Housing that's leaking. I asked him why he wasn't going to fix the leak at home & he said you need special tools, that he doesn't have. So unless the 2020 KIA SUV he's borrowing has the wrong type of Bolts installed that hold the Housing on, or the repair shop his girlfriend was gonna take it to was planning on soaking her for doing something more than what your video is showing... Thanks for posting the video. I just emailed him the video link, so he can watch it himself and decide if he's going to make the repair at home...
This was super helpful! Thank you!!! I just ordered an aluminum filter housing on Amazon since the plastic one cracked. The plastic ones were also back ordered. Do you see any issue with using an aluminum housing?
I have a 2021 Kia Telluride and it started a month ago after the weather In Ontario Canada got cold minus 28 then minus 10 then stopped leaking last week at 5 degrees and continues today went down to zero now leaks the leak is between the engine block and the black plac=sci filter assemble housing. Thanks
I don’t have any at the moment. I’ve never liked using the pinch welds on modern vehicles. On this particular video I’m pretty sure I place the jack under the front suspension crossmember.
Probably wouldn’t have to. But you will need to add some oil afterwards as some will probably drain out. Some will drain out regardless. Mine was due for an oil change so I drained it first.
This might seem like a silly question BUT: went for an oil change on my 2020 telluride (after I changed the spark plugs myself) and they told me my oil pan gasket was leaking. They quoted me $600 for this, with $180 for the part. I’m struggling to see how a gasket this small could be SO expensive. Seems like I should start here with this gasket.
I would definitely get a second opinion. I will say - if the gasket referenced in the video is bad and leaking oil, it could potentially look like it is the oil pan gasket. But odds are that it is this one instead.

Just found this video and I think my 2020 telluride is doing the same thing. Thanks for uploading
Hopefully it helps you! There wasn’t much out there on this issue when ours started doing it. So far this has fixed it.
Thanks for posting !!
You’re Welcome! Hopefully it helps someone avoid a catastrophe.

Do you see any issue with using an aluminum housing?
That's interesting! Shouldn't be any issues with aluminum as long is it's good quality and the o-rings seal properly.
How did you clean the housing? Use break cleaner? And are all the bolts the same size---length? Excellent video
I just wiped with a clean shop towel. Some will continue to seep out so you probably won't be able to keep it completely clean.
Where did you order the gasket from, I’m have the same issue with the cold weather but our dealership is over an 1hr away looking to order one online
There are several parts websites it can be order from. I actually found this one on eBay when I ordered. Part # 26345-3LAA0

Definitely sounds like the gasket/o-ring is the culprit.
Post fix, and now that winter is around the corner, have you had any leaks?
All good so far. Made it through the rest of last winter, spring, summer, and put to now - so far no issues or leaks.
Did the new o-ring sit flush, or did it stick out a bit?
It should stick out a little.
Do you have a video or picture of jack points on the Telluride? I really can't seem to find anything on the internet besides pinch welds :)
I don’t have any at the moment. I’ve never liked using the pinch welds on modern vehicles. On this particular video I’m pretty sure I place the jack under the front suspension crossmember.
Did you rub any oil on the new gasket before mounting it?
Not necessary but wouldn’t hurt anything if you did.
Did you have to drain all the oil before doing this?
Probably wouldn’t have to. But you will need to add some oil afterwards as some will probably drain out. Some will drain out regardless. Mine was due for an oil change so I drained it first.
@@arrowjmfarms thanks man, I appreciate the reply

So did that fix the leak?
Yes it did. It’s been about a month but no leaks so far.
