Same thing just happened at my shop. Galant 2.4 sohc. Cam and Crank codes. Balance Shaft belt broke. Timing belt jumped about 3-4 teeth. Replaced belts and ran great. This Video helped me figure it out. Thanks !
Hey betty how you doing. So the balance shaft belt broke right and im jumped a few teeth. Are you talking about the little belt or the big belt the main one? Im working on a 03 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.4 and has p0340 and p0335 seems like both sensors have been replaced and the timing belt dont look old at all and the marks look good. Any suggestion or help i would really appreciate. Thanks
I couldn't tell if the cam and crank signals overlayed correctly but I believe you stated you physically checked cam and crank timing. seems you "smelled" fuel but definitely need to go that direction next testing fuel pressure and volume. in the unlikely event fuel is OK, Run a channel with ignition vs relative compression and verify the spark is occurring just before TDC compression. Remember FASTTEC. The issue MUST be at least one of those. If you run through it and still don't solve the problem, you simply missed and need to try again.
Wow no start off just a tooth?? Picky system huh?? I had same happen to me before with the timing cover. I have since learned to physically check TDC and Cam positions independent of any markings.
Schrodingers Box may have been 2 teeth. It would try to start and pop through the intake. Did a leak down test and luckily didn't smack any valves so will get a timing belt once the owner wants to get around to it.
I saw in the comments that this ended up being a case of slightly jumped timing. Do you happen to remember if this engine had good compression? I have the same situation but no scope and haven’t torn it apart enough to see the bottom timing marks yet. Compression is 150psi on all 4 cylinders but I can imagine that skipping 1-2 teeth might still support good compression but mess with the ignition timing enough to cause a no start.
It is the battery in the key fob. When it dies it does not send signal to ignition. It is a safety feature (anti theft) try changing the battery in the key fob and try again.
@@kdautomotive1165 Ahh, well keep what i told you in mind. The battery in the keyfob dies or is removed. The car will turn over but will never start. I found out the hard way after being out and about and having the battery in mine die. Wasnt until i noticed my doors were not locking with the key fob before i realized what was going on. But had already spent the cost of a tow to get it home. Which was about 1000 times the cost of the little lithium battery. :)
Check ecu under the hood...had a problem and was that the pins froze up...all I did was drop it onto the floor and slapped it back in and bam it fired up

Awesome glad it helped!

Schrodingers Box I got a know good cam and crank waveform. It was off a tooth. The timing belt cover was broke so it looked like the lines marked up.

It had compression but it was low 120ish I wanna say. This one the dowl pin on the cam sheared. It got a cylinder head

Not dowl pin on camshaft sheared

Timing belt jumped a tooth on this one
