People like you are awesome. You take your time and load up a simple video but amazingly helps a lot of people. Thank you for all the info. I did a couple of videos regarding my galant also because I couldn't find any answers. Keep them up and thanks again.
thanks, I tried to help. The best help is free. But at the same time someone is helping you you also have to take initiative and take the time to learn. I think there's a lot of hipster mechanics in this world nowadays that aren't willing to be kind and take their time. The worst thing you can do is when someone needs help you give them a hard time. Understanding and patience almost always works in the end. I have several other videos that are a lot more helpful than this one and I think the most technically helpful thing I've learned about this car is that when your camshaft sensor fails only one of the coil packs will fire. So it is very simple to check if your cam sensor is bad simply take your coil packs out and put your plug boots in the air turn the car over and see if all are firing or not.
Dude I love my Galant! I got it with over 180000 miles. After researching a bit, I decided to put money into it. New suspension, water pump kit, radiator, spark plugs, fuel pump, and a new look. My issue is nothing with this car. The money in putting into it doesn't bother me. Nice looking car. Mine was stock looking, no pazaz 😴. I made all the chrome flat satin blkb out tints in. Wheeeewweeee. Ima post a video.
Im going to have to check that out soon. I'm having the same problem with my 99 v6. I replaced the spark plugs and wires myself about 8 months ago, but i didnt notice any oil on any of them that I took out. It ran great after I replaced them, for about a week, then the light came on again, it was for 02 sensors. Replaced those, and now i have a random misfire code. Thanks for this video. I'm definitely going to be looking into it.
yep spot on thumbs up, went on this journey of diagnosis few years back, changed plugs+cleaned plug tube from oil and was no miss for a while..now it's back mainly in opposite plug hole to your car. so been slowly buying, sparkplugs leads, coils, rtv, oem tube boots, and rocket cover gasket oem from japan. btw mine mainly misses under hard load with accelerator pedal past half way, if i baby it nothing happens.. mine is 01 mitsubishi nimbus UG 7seater in AU, but will work with any model with 4g64,16valve 2.4l eg lancer and even seen a great wall suv with this engine so would be same symptoms as described in video here.
OMG Thank you!!! I inherited a 96 Galant and it ran fine, but it started to random misfire and it got worse and worse. I have a project for this weekend!!!
Things that cause misfire on this car, IAC, CPS, CSS, plugs, wires/boots, vacuum leak (intake manifolds crack), leaking plug seals, clogged cat, etc... Pretty easy motor to diagnose.
You shouldn't have to scrape any thing unless some one did RTV previously, the valve cover you might need a screwdriver to scrape it out. Might as well change that too.
It was a misfire under load that developed over time to a misfire at all times. Doing this repair fixed the misfire condition immediately but it did return about 3 days later.
Bro i saw this vid long ago and i save it on Playlist years later it saved me, i spend weeks after weeks replacing parts all kind of stuff on my gal but nothing worked till i tried this🙏 you're a lifesaver, how can i donate 20$ to you sir?
Remember to clean the bottom of the valve cover where the tube seals meet so the RTV will stick. Use break cleaner or dish soap to clean the area so the rtv will stick.
You have oil inside the spark plug tubes? Oil leaking from the valve cover all around? 1. buy a new valve cover kit. It includes spark plug tube seals. 2. remove valve cover 3. remove old valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals. 4. install new valve cover gasket 5. Put new tube seals on 6. put a pencil thick ring of RTV sealant on the tube seal where it meets the under side of the valve cover. 7. put a small bead of RTV on the bottom of the valve cover where the tube seals meet.
8. wait for the RTV on the spark plug tub seals to become tacky, not hard but just starting to set up. 9. then place the valve cover back on and tighten down to 78 inch pounnds or 6-7 foot pounds. OR just snug, not too tight. 10. Use your finger and a rag to remove any RTV that has gotten inside the spark plug tube. Smooth it out inside and wipe it out so it is clean and smooth. 11. re-install coil spark plug boots and coil packs.
Any RTV designed for engine use should work. Also replace your spark plugs if they are more than 10k miles old. Often the spark plugs become bad if oils has gotten into the cylinder.
thanks for this video man cus my galant has actually shut off on me and my girl bcus of the misfire is having i kind of had an feeling that it was the spark plugs but u definitely proved to me cus it idle rough when u stop and when in drive and u are at at stop plus is having a very hard start cus i look iit up and it say if all these things were happening u need it to change em but thank u man now i def know is the spark plugs cus my galant is in mint condition to be having problems but the thing is that a lady used to own it so im pretty sure she didn't do the maintenance how she should but yea thanks man ur video helped a lot
Mine cracked from leaning on it when checking out the motor but I think they pretty much all crack overtime. This is a big job, it's going to take an entire day or two and it's really awkward lean over the back of the motor and crawling around underneath. The 2004 outlander non VVT manifold is the one that will bolt on. Depending on the condition of your aging Galant, I might just throw a kneaded rope of JB weld around where the cracks normally appear and massage it in.
@@ArcolaBridge thank you very much! The car is near perfect except for this. I have silicone on it for now, but afraid it won't last long. Thank you again!
@@shannontoney1007 yeah it'll get worse over time. You would even remove it and have it welded. It won't run exactly the same as it used to with the outlander short-run manifold.
Hey, thanks for the video. Very helpful! I replaced coils, plugs & wires. I have a 2003 Mitsubishi gallant which was having misfiring issues. Car ran good for about 2 hours after replacement then all of a sudden it started happening again. There was no oil in the plug wells either. Very confused. Car has 200,100 miles. Any suggestions? Thanks again!!
if is not to much bother , can u pls tell me step by step how to do that, im having the same problem , and i change the iac valve ,mass air sensor , and i notice there is oil all around the engine, thanx.
Hey I have replaced all of those plus new spark plugs. I was wondering what it could have been I will look into this next. I replace my head cover because it was leaking. But what is the name of the stuff that you are using if their oil near the spark plug
If you replace the spark plugs and spark plug boots and the car still misfires it is probably the camshaft position sensor. It is the most common cause of motor stalling.
Hello I realize this video is 2 years old but you may be able to help me. I have a 1.8L Mirage and I have the hesitation from start problem and rough idle when under load. i replaced the 2 coils, spark plugs, tube gaskets, timing belt, air filter and fuel filter and it is still the same. Was your car also consuming more fuel than usual?
question... 2002 Mitsubishi galant es. Ignition was busted for another from a junk yard.. It isn't getting any fire... Motor turns but I get nothing.. The immo security was a factor.. The green light with a key came on with busted ign. Once changed it hasn't been back on.. Help!?!
I think galants have a issue of oil getting into the spark plugs no matter what. I've change the gasket cover and the tube seals twice on my galant and when time comes to change the spark plugs there's always oil on the plugs all the time. Idk it's a thing that galants tend to do after a while of driving them...
1skylinedreamz your cylinder head cover is probably bent or warped. that usually happens after a while especially with heat cycling or if you put too much weight on them or tighten them down too much. anyway that's why you're supposed to use RTV sealant in between the tube seals and the cover.
ArcolaBridge LOL it's crazy because this video is the one I watched about a year ago when it first broke down on me now here I am in the same place and that part for it they discontinued it so I might have to go with the Outlander that's why I wanted to know the year make and model cuz I'm about to go with the Outlander once they don't make the one for the Mitsubishi Galant
Adam Gallegos you can find used Galant intake manifolds all over. Try RockAuto, card-part.com Amazon and eBay. Like I said you can always just J-B Weld it, most of the time that's the most hassle trouble-free way of doing it and J-B Weld is just about permanent.
I know that's why I was asking I Havnt taking the bottom cover off yet by change could the belt be broke on bottom but still be tight on the top cam gear
Joseph Jackson maybe the teeth stripped off but that doesn't seem right. Maybe the camshaft cracked from oil starvation? The oil pump is geared 3:2:1 and normally people don't know that and never align it properly during a timing belt job. Unless the bottom pulley didn't come off I don't know why the belt would be tight if it doesn't rotate the camshaft.
It's extremely mindless and easy. You just unbolt the valve cover and take the seals off the tops of the 4 tubes, they sit right on top. you need a socket, ratchet and new seals and a little RTV to seat them against the valve cover, just use a little or none at all. Make sure to clean the mating surface on the bottom of the valve cover though so it makes a good seal. and don't tighten the valve cover too much, just snug or your seals will leak.
It seems that you made the video before testing your fix. did you say that the misfire came back after 3 days later? and if yes, what termed out to be the problem and how did you fix it?
This fixed the problem, but I also replaced the spark plugs with Denso iridium plugs that are one heat range colder, I also replaced the coil plug boots.
I have a 2003 galant. That has the same problem. Turns out I have oil in my spark plugs. It won't stay idle. It just dies when u take your foot off the gas. What should I tell the auto shop? So they don't have to charge me for diagnosis? ?
If you ask me that behavior sounds like vacuum leak or IAC most likely. You should be able to inspect the spark plugs and wires yourself to eliminate that possibility. The most likely culprit is the IAC or Vacuum leak (could be a cracked hose or crack in the intake manifold sucking in air, the Cam sensor could cause this as well. 1. check plugs, boots and wires, if plugs have oil change them and put new valve cover and tube seal gasket on. 2. if plugs do not have oil check IAC with a multimeter. Put small wire between wire and connector boot. 3. Check for vacuum leak, broken hose or (crack in intake manifold is common) or MAF 4. maybe alternator is failing, check voltage output 5. cam sensor. you can check it with mutlimeter
Plugs, boots, wires, (coil pack is easy to check, if you unplug the wires and it shoots spark its working) Check for crack in manifold (common with this car) check for vacuum leak, IAC and Cam sensor should be checked. There is a great website if you search it that has diagnostic info.
Hello Its me agian lol I was wondering my car lags from a stop almost have to floor it for it to go....and I also have a little bit of oil in cylinder number 2 and 4 your video has me thinking about the fuel regulator buy I'm not so sure what would u say
the fuel regulator is easy to check. pull the hose off of it and see if fuel squirts out. if you will does not come out of it then it is most likely good. they do get old and slightly worn out. how old are your spark plugs and what kind? there's a number of things that could cause that problem like for instance a weak fuel pump.
I recently took out my 4g63 and installed 4g93 gdi and I'm having that misfire issue. Checked plugs, coils, MAF and still same problem. Am I overlooking something ?
I'm not sure but I don't think so, you'd have to look way far back, further back than I'm able to see without a computer at my video list. At 350,000 MI on a timing belt with 150k on it the gallant died on its palliative journey. At 3:00 a.m. on the Sunday night and an hour from home the belt broke. She was a good reliable car, the bare essence of what a car should be. Rest in peace. It's been one year and a couple months now since she's been gone.
@@ArcolaBridge sorry to hear I'm trying to save my galant but the intake manifold keeps cracking and I want to do this swap but I am unsure on where the hoses go
@@kingrivas4717 it's pretty self-explanatory once you start doing it but it is pretty difficult to reach some of the bottom nuts on the intake manifold, it's going to take a day of wiggling and contorting your hands to get it done. You don't really need the EGR valve or the EGR heater line. It runs hot coolant into the EGR. I just deleted that stuff by capping the hoses. I'd rather keep my intake air cooler than hotter. They rather not use the EGR at all obviously.
keep the plugs in and fill them with diesel. Let it soak for a while and use a windex sprayer to squirt it out into a cup. Depending how much is in their you might just let it go into the cylinder it will burn off.
If I change the Ignition coils do you think the car will NOT turn off . I has the same issues, fixed everything except the ignition coils (thanks AutoZone) Anywho, If I change them do you think the car will not stall out ?
I think what you are describing is a condition where the motor turns off correct? I think you need to see my new video about the cam shaft position sensor, if it goes bad your motor will not stay running.
hi, my car is a Mitsubishi galant 2001 2.4 L, I bought it almost 4 weeks ago from a car dealership, I changed the crankshaft and the dealership told me they had changed a camshaft as well. I also did oil change high mileage immediately i bought it. When i press on the gas pedal and I exceed 65km/h it tries to resist( like stop and move, stop and moves) especially on free way. Do you have an idea about it? My friend told me that Mitsubishi vehicles do act like that because they might put a limit on some but help me because I really doubt what my friend told me. Thanks
where are you located? So you're telling me the dealership change the camshaft and you change the actual crankshaft? That is an extreme amount of effort for the small motor. why did you go to all the trouble to change those items? Or are you trying to say you just changed the camshaft and crankshaft sensor? the speed of this car is electronically limited to 140 miles an hour.
Am in Tacoma-WA state, the dealership paid for the service for replacing the crankshaft sensor and I bought the part. Before I purchased the car he said he had changed the camshaft sensor. The mileage is 155XXX, I don't know why it tries to stop when I increase the speed to more than 65? I changed the battery as well because it had started refusing to start.
Chris Romero there's a tupperware container on top of the battery and the only Square thing I see near the air filter would be the mass airflow sensor.
galant ,eclipse or sebring guys .if misfire and stall at idle or stop sign . first check ignition parts if ok then its the IAC valve . replace it with identical one . mitsu has few designs .
I have a 2008 Galant wit over 200 thousand miles runs good new battery. But now when I accelerate it will do a hard jerk and will not get up to speed what could it possibly be 🤷🏽♀️
Your statement is contradictory. If the motor was turning over the belt as well as the running gear would be moving. If your timing belt is not broken it does then sound like your starter motor gear is stripped or the flywheel teeth are stripped. The only way for the crankshaft and pistons to turn over without the camshaft is if the timing belt is broken. That should be easy to tell, remove the timing cover and look at the belt.
I feel like the spark plug boot is not firmly snapping onto the plug because of the brackets.. anyone else sense this could be it? If theres no oil in the tube
Spirit Breath the boots which are attached to the coils are different than the boots which are not attached to the coils. The boots that are attached to the coils tear and short out. electrical tape doesn't fix the problem. You should replace them if you can't get them to seat properly. I got new ones a few years back for thirty bucks on eBay
my. wire connecter that runs to the cam sensor doesnt gey any power? spark plug is fine wires are fine. but the when i remove my 4th cylinder wire connector not the wire but the wire that runs to the cam sensor. i took it off and it didnt do anything like it was never connected and it just misfires...any suggestions?? i just replaced my cam sensor too!
Andres Mateo well then that's kind of an ignorant statement to make. We can't make assumptions. But the safest assumption to make right now would be that the camshaft sensor replaced is counterfeit it will not give a functional signal to your computer. Where did you buy the camshaft sensor?
I recently installed a fuel pump on a Mitsubishi Galant 2004 and a crank the first time and then it stopped turning over I guess the suggested that it might be the fuel pump but I feel the fuel pump still delivering fuel but I feel like the motor is not receiving any fuel what should I do
I don't really understand what you are saying. If the car is not turning over that is not related to the fuel pump. If it is not turning over it sounds like the starter is not working. Is the battery okay?
@@ArcolaBridge the car will crank but not turn over, the first day it shut off while driving and someone told me the fuel pump and I changed it. It did start and run after that for 45 minutes and now it will not start at all just crank
@@louisramos5201 what you are describing is a classic camshaft position sensor problem. It's a cheap replacement but make sure if you purchase the part on the internet it is a genuine Park. I would advise not purchasing it online. I purchased a counterfeit sensor that looked real but caused further confusion. I alternate Lee found a genuine replacement from Chrysler Dodge Jeep parts on eBay. But it was like the same price as the dealer, I paid $45 for mine. Take your spark plugs out of your car and point your spark plug boots in the air with a spark plugs in them and turn the key to start the car. If only one coil pack for example two spark plugs are sparking and one coil pack is not sparking the other two spark plugs that is a sure sign that it is your camshaft position sensor. It's a five minute fix. It is also possible it could be the crankshaft sensor and that is a more difficult replacement.
Adam Gallegos the most difficult part is one of the fasteners kind of in the middle bottom towards the passenger side. Good luck with that. You're going to need some kind of special tool to get good torque on it. The second most complicated part will be hooking up the vacuum components. You don't need to add anything and in fact you're going to subtract one of the long metal lines because what you have already is long enough to work on the Outlander Style. Just try to keep that attached to the existing manifold when you take it off so it's easier to figure out where it goes on the new one. I didn't have any kind of tutorial or any kind of explanation when I did it. There isn't a good Gallant database like there is with German cars. Not that I was able to find. You just have to start taking stuff apart. And I actually got the throttle linkage screwed into the Outlander manifold without having to modify anything if you look in the picture. It's still working to this day.
Die andern frau is the belt properly tightened? the serpentine belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning and water pump. there is no reason that stands out that would cause a misfire from a new belt. Unless you replace the timing belt and did not line up the timing marks? did you interfere or break any of the wiring going to the crankshaft position sensor?
ArcolaBridge as far as I can tell, no wires or hoses are damaged. the longer belt was very hard to get on, so I'm thinking my fiance might have put it on backwards (is that possible?). other than that, we did drive it about 500 feet without the alternator belt on just to get it off the freeway, so I'm not sure but I'm thinking that may have skewed the timing.
Die andern frau the timing belt and the serpentine belt are two entirely different belts. if you did not adjust the timing belt then your timing will still be exactly the same. so you were driving and suddenly the motor cut out? it's possible your alternator is dying. but that wouldn't necessarily explain the misfire. what size motor do you have?
ArcolaBridge not exactly. started it up after putting the belts in, and it was running terrible. pulled out of the parking spot and back in, turned it off. turned it back on, ran it for about 2 minutes then it died and hasn't started since.
MrKG174 no parts needed, maybe some tiny vac hose for the fpr relocation on the outlander im. maybe a longer ground strap/wire to ground it. it's damn near impossible to get out one of the nuts on the bottom of the manifold. I don't think I got mine tightened down all the way.
misfire/splutter came back even after using a new OEM cam sensor, doing all new ngk coils,plugs,leads..No mils light on..checked tps with backprobe and came up with smooth curve 0.6v to 5.025..idle perfect at 750+50 so idle solenoid is fine also only come on hard reving or quick punch of accelerator however car is still very drivable..im due for timing belt so that's next for me and doing crank sensor while there.. cleaned throttle body very minor soot..cleaned Maf..will also add some fuel injector cleaner shortly..very strange so im hoping someone out there sees this and knows more than i do and respond.
Sounds like a classic case of counterfeit cam sensor. Either buy one from the dealership or buy one that is a real genuine part with the Mitsubishi logo raised in the plastic casting of the part.
@@ArcolaBridge looked legit to me with all the mitsubishi marking/box but i will scrutinize and compare further as it was ebay from a decent reseller.thank's for the tip..for a couple weeks car was running like a beast after cleaning spark plug tube, maf,n throttle body clean..im in process of trying to diagnose MAF but i dont have mut2 scanner nor is australian model full obd2 compliant which is a pain in the you know what..lol

It's a bad idea to add any extra sealant material. it will definitely make it a lot harder to replace the gaskets when you will have to inevitably replace them again.
Scandalous Fatality it's a well-known preventative measure on this car. The Fel-Pro gasket is where it's at. I've currently got a hundred and twenty thousand miles since this procedure with no sign of any leaking. It's a great idea. Before I could go about 40,000 miles before oil would start sleeping in. At least on this motor in the cult of the 2001 for Banger Galant.
ArcolaBridge if you were still getting oil in the spark plug well after you replaced the gaskets them that would mean that your valve cover was bent around that well.
If it works I'm not meaning to tell you not to use it i was just trying to tell you that in the long run its not the best idea. I've had the same problem in my eclipse which has the same engine and the valve cover was slightly bent up around well 3 due to excess heat
Scandalous Fatality in this case the real cause was the camshaft position sensor. upgrading the spark plugs to iridium solve the problem for a little bit but the camshaft sensor as it turns out must have been failing slowly. So over time no amount of fixing the ignition system would have done any good. It was interesting to note the Improvement in the issue on this naturally aspirated motor with the iridium plugs. I chose two steps colder plugs and the motor appears to get even better mileage than before! Interesting...
My car is idling at 1000rpm, misfiring, power won’t build up until is warm, when cold i try to accelerate and it stays at 1500rpm and sound as if no ir is going in the car, it all started when i put injector cleaners into the tank; someone told me that was an obstruction in one of the injectors, I’ll pull ‘em and clean. Love my 248,000 miles 2002 galant ES 2.4L. I only put in this car a brand new alternator, a starter, 48.88 Walmart battery and crankshaft positioning Senor the rest is all factory.
eloidor it sounds like a possible vacuum leak. Did you use a genuine Mitsubishi sensor? Was it a crankshaft sensor or was it camshaft sensor? Most of them online are counterfeit and will cause a situation like you described.
ArcolaBridge Yes I did. I also change the air filter. You may be right, proly left something loose when I changed the filter. It also turns off on its own sometimes when idling. Thanks for the reply though, very helpful.
Lil_ Jay it's your camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. Is there a check engine light? Did you verify Spark? Sounds like the camshaft sensor, 40 bucks to fix. Beware lots and lots of fake counterfeit knockoff sensors on eBay.
Lil_ Jay yes there is a chip in it so yeah your not going anywhere without that. Call the dealer or locksmith gonna be like 100 bucks and you need proof of ownership.
Lil_ Jay yes. But you can make a replica if you can verify to the dealer or to a locksmith that you are the owner of the car. You're going to need a title and registration probably, drivers license, maybe some other info not sure. But at least title with your name on it.
Oh man, I need to do this. I have an 03 and it shakes SO bad when I'm stopped, but not(as bad) when I'm in neutral. It stopped shaking once and I freaked out thinking my car had died :/ Time to play mechanic!
xXActmyageXx Awe, your so beautiful, how far from Minnesota are you? There is a flight simulator at the mall of america that would be right up your alley! :P jay kay.. lol
Devilishedit s you may have a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake path. Maybe you have a cracked intake manifold near the throttle body? Also, it's possible your camshaft position sensor is dying.
Just take care of your car my galan has almost 300k miles and it runs like a beast because i take good care of it you know filter, oil, coolant, brake Fluid, stering Fluid and is better if you do it yourself and in time.
Silicone is not and never is the answer. Replace the valve cover gasket which comes with new cylinder tube seals. It costs about the same as a tube of silicone except it'll be done right. **AZJETSFAN**
the ignition system on this car is very simple. There is not much to it that is. typically the cam position sensor will trigger the check engine light if it goes bad. But not always, after it really truly feels it should but initially it may not. that was the problem I had all along. the funny part is I replaced it with what I thought was an oem sensor but it turned out to be a fake counterfeit. I have another instructional video on my page that describes that. things that can cause a misfire on this car most commonly are the TPS, IAC, ignition components, and of course a vacuum leak.
hmm.. so I replaced the plugs, and there was no oil in the tubes.. but still misfire. My problem is identical to yours.. misfire from acceleration, and then in idle. Now its in drive too. SO cam sensor maybe? I'll check for vacuum leaks too
it's easy to determine if you are spark plug coils are working. Take them out and put your spark plugs in them and turn the motor over as if to start it. If you see Sparks then they are working.
Figured it out! Its the catalytic converter! The exhaust is backing up and causing the weakest cylinder to misfire, then the rest. If you have a similar problem, and have tougher times going uphill, likely it is the cat! Turns out this is one of the most common reasons for misfire, and is commonly misdiagnosed.
People like you are awesome.
You take your time and load up a simple video but amazingly helps a lot of people.

OMG Thank you!!! I inherited a 96 Galant and it ran fine, but it started to random misfire and it got worse and worse. I have a project for this weekend!!!
This engine is pretty bullet proof, it's either the spark plugs, spark plug boots or leaky tube seals. Could be bad coil packs too but unlikely.
Great video brother! Thank you for taking time to make it. Helps a lot of people out that are having the same problem as I myself am.
Things that cause misfire on this car, IAC, CPS, CSS, plugs,
wires/boots, vacuum leak (intake manifolds crack), leaking plug seals,
clogged cat, etc... Pretty easy motor to diagnose.
After seeing the video, all my questions were answered - looks like the hardest thing will be to scrape off the old gasket. Awesome.

Dude. Everyone knows it's the jelly that oozes out of a PB&J sandwich ;)
Thanks for the informative video!
Remember to clean the bottom of the valve cover where the tube seals meet so the RTV will stick. Use break cleaner or dish soap to clean the area so the rtv will stick.
i have oil around every single spark plug, thanks for the vid!
njkprod yikes
You have oil inside the spark plug tubes? Oil leaking from the valve cover all around?
1. buy a new valve cover kit. It includes spark plug tube seals.
2. remove valve cover
3. remove old valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals.
4. install new valve cover gasket
5. Put new tube seals on
6. put a pencil thick ring of RTV sealant on the tube seal where it meets the under side of the valve cover.
7. put a small bead of RTV on the bottom of the valve cover where the tube seals meet.
I had the mis-fire issue, which was erratic. Replaced both coil packs and all is good now! :)
bro what would happen if you put the 3 cylinder spark plug wire into cylinder 4 ignition coil and 1 spark plug wire into 2nd ignition coil?
8. wait for the RTV on the spark plug tub seals to become tacky, not hard but just starting to set up.
9. then place the valve cover back on and tighten down to 78 inch pounnds or 6-7 foot pounds.
Excellent information...thanks and take care!
Thanks so much! What year outlaner intake did you use? My 02 galant is also cracking
Did you figure it out ( 1 year ago)? Im having this problem
Very helpful video for me. Two thumbs up!!
How to reset oil light on dash
Will a bad catalytic converter cut the car off when you step off the gas
if is not to much bother , can u pls tell me step by step how to do that, im having the same problem , and i change the iac valve ,mass air sensor , and i notice there is oil all around the engine, thanx.
It is the most common cause of motor stalling.
thanks, from Chile!!
:D
Hello I realize this video is 2 years old but you may be able to help me. I have a 1.8L Mirage and I have the hesitation from start problem and rough idle when under load. i replaced the 2 coils, spark plugs, tube gaskets, timing belt, air filter and fuel filter and it is still the same. Was your car also consuming more fuel than usual?
How did you fix it?

What year was The Outlander the weld on my intake manifold broke too and they no longer make the OEM part for the Galant
Adam Gallegos you can fix it with J-B Weld or I think it's a 2004 Outlander intake manifold non VVT
ArcolaBridge the weld broke b4r the throttle body the whole circular Weld
Cuál era la falla?
I know that's why I was asking I Havnt taking the bottom cover off yet by change could the belt be broke on bottom but still be tight on the top cam gear
Joseph Jackson maybe the teeth stripped off but that doesn't seem right. Maybe the camshaft cracked from oil starvation? The oil pump is geared 3:2:1 and normally people don't know that and never align it properly during a timing belt job. Unless the bottom pulley didn't come off I don't know why the belt would be tight if it doesn't rotate the camshaft.
How difficult is it to reach/remove spark plug tube seals on 1999 2.4L, do you use hands, needle nose or something else...thx
Are the v6 models know to misfire as well?
Not much galant v6 stuff on RUclips.
Yes my v6 misfires as well. Same problem
+Brandon Gomez turned out I had the spark plug wires crossed ha!
It seems that you made the video before testing your fix.
did you say that the misfire came back after 3 days later?
and if yes,
what termed out to be the problem and how did you fix it?
3. Check for vacuum leak, broken hose or (crack in intake manifold is common) or MAF
4. maybe alternator is failing, check voltage output
5. cam sensor. you can check it with mutlimeter
Thank you will look into this
Plugs, boots, wires, (coil pack is easy to check, if you unplug the wires and it shoots spark its working) Check for crack in manifold (common with this car) check for vacuum leak, IAC and Cam sensor should be checked. There is a great website if you search it that has diagnostic info.
Appreciate it! :)
Have an 03 with a bad misfire. I'm doing this today to see if this is the problem.
I also have an 03.. did it fix it?
Can someone please tell me where I can found sensor revolution in my mitsubichi galant 03. Engine thanks.
+ArcolaBridge I just got a new fuel pump and checked the spark plugs their nice my seals are bad 2 and 4.......
I recently took out my 4g63 and installed 4g93 gdi and I'm having that misfire issue. Checked plugs, coils, MAF and still same problem. Am I overlooking something ?
SandoTrini cam sensor? or crank sensor, check if both coil packs fire. if one is out one of those sensors is dead.
Do you by any chance have a vid of the intake manifold swap?
I'll give it a shot thanks
How did you clean the oil out of the bottom of the plugs?
keep the plugs in and fill them with diesel. Let it soak for a while and use a windex sprayer to squirt it out into a cup. Depending how much is in their you might just let it go into the cylinder it will burn off.
Remarkable, never thought I'd use a Windex nozzle that way.
If I change the Ignition coils do you think the car will NOT turn off . I has the same issues, fixed everything except the ignition coils (thanks AutoZone) Anywho, If I change them do you think the car will not stall out ?
You are putting that question in a weird way. I'm not sure what you mean? Are you having a misfire? Or is the car turning off?
Brand new NO START condition video coming soon!
ArcolaBridge what is that square thing on the right like on top of the air filter .
Chris Romero there's a tupperware container on top of the battery and the only Square thing I see near the air filter would be the mass airflow sensor.
galant ,eclipse or sebring guys .if misfire and stall at idle or stop sign . first check ignition parts if ok then its the IAC valve . replace it with identical one . mitsu has few designs .
or cam or crank sensor or spark plugs or fouling or plug boots or wires or vacuum leak
I have a 2008 Galant wit over 200 thousand miles runs good new battery. But now when I accelerate it will do a hard jerk and will not get up to speed what could it possibly be 🤷🏽♀️
What motor and what is a hard jerk?
ArcolaBridge 2.4 liter when I press on gas it will go but once it gets over like 39mph car will jerk as if the mother or something gonna fall out
Engine cranks but top timing gear an belt don't move but belt is tight any suggestions
Thank you so much for this video, help me so much!!
my. wire connecter that runs to the cam sensor doesnt gey any power? spark plug is fine wires are fine. but the when i remove my 4th cylinder wire connector not the wire but the wire that runs to the cam sensor. i took it off and it didnt do anything like it was never connected and it just misfires...any suggestions?? i just replaced my cam sensor too!
Andres Mateo how do you know what does not get any power? Did you verify this information with a multimeter?
Not really. I just unplugged the connector and it didnt do anything it is already misfiring.
Its been misfiring
Andres Mateo well then that's kind of an ignorant statement to make. We can't make assumptions. But the safest assumption to make right now would be that the camshaft sensor replaced is counterfeit it will not give a functional signal to your computer. Where did you buy the camshaft sensor?
Autozone
Hey man where did u get your intake manifold which site
Adam Gallegos car-part.com
Adam Gallegos or try rockauto.com. 2004 outlander non vvt manifold
ArcolaBridge how did you go about replacing it the steps taken do u have a video or recommendations so far I have the throtle body off
Adam Gallegos the most difficult part is one of the fasteners kind of in the middle bottom towards the passenger side.
I just replaced my serpentine belts and now my my car won't start (2000 galant) and the code reads random multiple misfires. any insight?
ArcolaBridge not exactly. started it up after putting the belts in, and it was running terrible. pulled out of the parking spot and back in, turned it off. turned it back on, ran it for about 2 minutes then it died and hasn't started since.
it initially broke down because the belt broke on the freeway.
I know I need to fix the seals right away
what parts do I need for the intake manifold conversion?
MrKG174 no parts needed, maybe some tiny vac hose for the fpr relocation on the outlander im. maybe a longer ground strap/wire to ground it. it's damn near impossible to get out one of the nuts on the bottom of the manifold. I don't think I got mine tightened down all the way.
I have a 2000 galant what year outlander do I get the manifold off of?
2004 era non vvt I think
Ok thanks
What intake manifold do you have on that
Outlander non vvt

@@stigonutube it sounds like their both lagit...but... if you've replaced all your ignition parts then hmmm... where did you buy the sensor?
Scandalous Fatality not technically. it's just a thing on this motor, rtv is still strong.
My 2003 galant just started doing this, when i put it in rev or drive it almost stalls
4G64SicKShoT did you ever solve this problem?
And yes it was a crankshaft position sensor.
eloidor wow that's a tough one to replace all the way at the bottom of the timing belt
I got a 2001 Mitsubishi galant es and it won't start I replace the starter and battery but still nothing any tips please
Lil_ Jay it's your camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. Is there a check engine light? Did you verify Spark? Sounds like the camshaft sensor, 40 bucks to fix. Beware lots and lots of fake counterfeit knockoff sensors on eBay.
ArcolaBridge there is a check engine light on and I don't have the original key I have a copy is that a problem by any chance
Lil_ Jay yes there is a chip in it so yeah your not going anywhere without that. Call the dealer or locksmith gonna be like 100 bucks and you need proof of ownership.
ArcolaBridge so I need the original key then
Lil_ Jay yes. But you can make a replica if you can verify to the dealer or to a locksmith that you are the owner of the car. You're going to need a title and registration probably, drivers license, maybe some other info not sure. But at least title with your name on it.

they're usually destroyed when people spray cleaners in their intake, if it gets wet just once the iac is done.

Ive been having misfire problems as well. I thought it might have been one of the plugs but maybe there is oil in there! Cam sensor might be it huh
the ignition system on this car is very simple.
I'll check for vacuum leaks too
Try your coils.
it's easy to determine if you are spark plug coils are working. Take them out and put your spark plugs in them and turn the motor over as if to start it. If you see Sparks then they are working.
