Detroit DD engines are easy to work on. I started working for Freightliner in August, we have seen hundreds of Gen 5 Detroit aka GHG 21. They are easy to work on, easy to service, quiet. But a couple things to watch are the fuel pumps and injectors. Also, change oil filter and oil, run engine, then change fuel filters. Just a couple major things to look out for over time.

That Detroit will eat an isx. Our new heavy haul truck is a 4700SF and runs gross 225k and stay right with all the other heavy haul trucks. 7 speed Allison at that. C15 and C16 with 18 speeds get a run for their money
Drive a 2015 4700sx DD13 with an Allison. With the same box and quad axle configuration. Nice truck but the hvac sucks especially the cooling part. Supposedly they fixed the new ones

Idk if I'd gamble on new vehicles this year myself. I work in part of the Automotive world and it's getting scarce for good help. Labor shortage means cutting corners. I weld exhaust systems. But not just my shop but all these shops are so short handed that it's not quantity over quality. They basically feel like as long as they can get the owner to Sign the deal. Then fix it later, that it's acceptable! I've seen the corners being cut everywhere! I bought some fucking rotors for my car the other day. I got them out, and there were cracks all the way around on the inside gussets the fins in between the working area for the pads. I bet if I would have dropped it on the concrete the one would have split in two. Or chunks would have came off! No joke! So just be careful, inspect the fuck out of it after an intense test drive if possible!
I think a d5 or a jd 650 size is the maximum that is still within the limits before you need a oversize permit if im not mistaken. Could be wrong. Just throwing in my BS lmao

During the lockdown last year we had alot of car and truck manufacturers who cut back on parts orders since everyone was stuck at home and not out buying new vehicles. The chip manufacturing companies sold more chips to Sony, Samsung etc because people where buying more electronics instead of buying cars. Once things broke loose and people are out buying as usual there was a shortage of parts from the lockdown not from 81 million votes. And don't forget the Swift Container ship that had the busiest canal in the world blocked up for nearly a month. That's over 400 shipping containers that were backlogged and couldn't get through. 46 had absolutely nothing to do with the supply chain issue. Keep trucking brother👍👍😎.

I drive a Freightliner Cascadia. My company has about 90? That lane departure/ adaptive cruise is fucking junk. An electrical nightmare. Can’t tell you how many times multiple units are down for this issue. It just goes haywire. Bad wheel sensors are an issue. Has those same hood latches too. They are a bitch with gloves on. Hope the Western Star is better because those Freightliner are pure throw away trucks. I really hate them. They ride horrible too. Different suspension than what you have. They are road tractors.
