I am a plastic surgeon who has been in practice for 25 years. This is an extremely well explained and comprehensive overview of lasers. Kudos! Well done. I hope that your viewers appreciate how you have managed to explain a fairly complex concept so elegantly.
This was extremely well done and very comprehensive. My brother was an old school plastic surgeon who never believed in anything that he considered “topical”. He was so wrong and I have been using different types of lasers and topical products for 20 years. It makes all the difference! And may I say, you are a delight to watch ( extremely handsome)! 😂

The laser salesman that I have encountered are equivalent to the old school used car salesman stereotype. I didn’t have access to numerous dermatological professionals on RUclips eight years ago! Thank you so much!

I HAVE WANTED THIS INFORMATION FOR YEARS!!!!! No one could explain the different lasers to me. Not even my RN who runs her own injectable practice with lasers!!!! (Yes really.) I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR EFFORTS TO TEACH AND EDUCATE US!! 😊
Great content! I've had 4 different laser treatments for different conditions. 1. I've had V-beam treatments on my rosacea and it works very well. 2 &3. I had my thyroid removed and had CO2 fractionated laser and IPL on the scar. You can't even see the scar now. Since the doctor was firing up the laser and it was going to cost the same, she did the CO2 on my face as well. It stank like burning flesh, but after the peeling stopped my face was as glowing as a newborn baby. I would certainly do the Fractionated laser again, but it's very expensive. 4. I had CO2 ablative laser on a burn on my hand (done under general anesthesia at a hospital). It was the last piece in the healing of my burn and virtually removed the roping between two of my fingers, it eliminated the tough and ever cracking scarring on my thumb knuckle, and it softened all the other burned skin. My hand looks so good and is so soft.
I have never had the doctor say since they were using the laser it would cost the same to also do your face!!! When I have consulted on this they say each area will cost and it is expensive! I am glad for you that sounds like what it should be! Where did you go? Kudos to you! I am sorry you were burned.
Loved it!!! Perhaps the best concise explanation of laser types, use and associated brand. We often hear brand names being thrown around like the customers somehow are supposed to know what these do and their differences. Love to see an updated version or more expanded version of this. Kudos!
Thanks Dr. Karam I needed this breakdown. Can you do another video and cover what type of lasers with different type of skin tones (ie olive, tan, dark, etc.) avoid? For perspective I’m olive/light tan and a photofacial years ago burned my skin and made my dark spots worse. Which lasers should people with more pigmented skin avoid? What are the right questions to ask?
Recent studies show that lasers can lead to the increase of Granzyme B which is associated with fat loss and premature aging. This is why lasers look good for a while but often times it backfires (months/ years after that). Doctors often only see the results from days/ weeks after the treatment. (I am not sure if I am allowed to post the studies here?)
Dr Karam you are an amazing teacher! I truly appreciate your clear and concise training and that it is not so clinical that we can't fully understand it. You've put us as a patient back in the driver's seat and I definitely am thrilled to be able to get this type of information. Thank you SO MUCH for your time and your care.
I did Erbium with a very respectable dermatologist. Terribly painful even with many injections of a numbing agent throughout the 2.5 hour process. Think molten lava. It maybe turned the clock back 5 years. The recovery regimen was also excruciating. Would never repeat without general anesthesia. Cost was $2500 for full face. My neck was not done and really shows my age. He did 3 passes.
So, I dont understand why they dont do the neck also that should be included! In a comment in the beg, a woman said her doctor said she was firing up the laser anyway she would do the rest of face and no extra charge?????
Did they not recommend anesthesia? I was told by a plastic surgeon that no one could tolerate that without being put to sleep with full anesthesia! I was also told to only let a board certified plastic surgeon that is highly trained in lasers do this to your face.
Another excellent and informative video. Thank you Dr. Karam for taking time out of your day to educate us. You have a way of explaining treatments concisely, and in a way that’s very easy to understand.
Educational, but the before and after photos show people who have had "vertical restore"face lifts in addition to laser work. We'd like to see results that are not related to pigment or capillary issues that we can get from laser resurfacing alone.
I had the 1927 dual fraxel laser one month ago. My brown spots and AKs are gone and the fine lines around my mouth and eyes are also very much reduced. I still have some pink spots left, but these will disappear as my skin continues to remodel. I will have my second treatment done next week to perfect my results. This procedure is pricey but I feel it is well worth it.
Hey! Have your recommendations changed since you made this? What’s the best laser today for anti-aging (skin tightening, laxity, collagen synthesis, wrinkles, etc.)?
I understood the choices which you certainly framed in a most helpful way. As a 61 year old it is not affordable to simply ‘do it all’ even though you spoke so eloquently about laser being a boot camp and fab results require maintenance on a consistent basis. I choose more affordable products and now will make informed choices with regard to laser. Thank you. I live in SA and would so so love to fly over for the works. You are a genius.
I had ablative laser (TRL), It was extremely painful, but extremely effective. I looked like I had been burned, but I healed well. I am glad I did it once, but I will not do it again. Receiving the treatment was extremely painful, and it was hard seeing my face swollen and burned. It kept oozing. I think there must be a better way.
Excellent video to help people become more educated. I left this to the dermatologist to advise me what to do during a consultation. Had I read these comments and listened to you before that no way would I have done anything other than the simple IPL that I received and was advised to get. This simple process from a Toronto clinic was professional, pain free that has produced wonderful results as all pigmentation from the sun is gone and my skin is glowing .
Thank you Dr Amir, I've never had anyone explain so clearly the difference in all these laser, this was fantastic, luv your channel 👏...greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Wish I could have seen this video long time ago...thank you for the lesson about lasers.... Too many medical estheticians have very little knowledge about this semi new ( and rapidly growing) modality of aesthetics. There's too much commercialization involved in between the patient and doctor and I find that not many doctors have been able to perfect their skill with whatever device they buy and solicit as the fountain of youth but with doctors like you that are driven to tell the public the truth about what devices are available, who actually develops the devices, what they actually treat and the downtime for each and every device and treatment is great to know to help people do the research for themselves versus depending on a doctor who may or may not have the patient's best interest in mind or simply may not have enough skill or knowledge to correctly diagnose and treat their patients.
@@sct4040 "asian" is not a skin tone, though. what matters is the skin tone, not the race. And steriotypical japanese don't look like steriotypical indians, so puting all asians on the same box wouldn't work at all. But I guess you mean Chinese, Japanese and Korean... but still
Thank you-great content topic! My derm recently told me that the very slight “crepey” texture I was starting to see on my front upper neck could be addressed by lasers but did not go into your level of detail. Appreciate the education! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
You seem to be very knowledgeable,as you should be. I live in San Diego California and am looking for a Dr. whom is also very knowledgeable about different lasers. Is there anyone you could honestly recommend, that you trust for myself to get treatment?
i am half korean, half caucasian, but my skin behaves and acts more like asian skin. i have melasma spots/sun spots on my cheeks. they are getting bigger with age. i asked an asian american skincare influencer once what she thought of IPL for sunspots and she told me she didn't like it because the heat seemed to cause more little melasma spots. also my korean mom got lasers done a long time ago for one of her sun spots and it made it worse, so i've always been scared of lasers.
Thank you so much ‼️🙌❤️👍. Excellent explanation ‼️. No one has ever explained so perfectly ‼️. I definitely need Laser facial and now I’m Un afraid … of getting Beauty health help for my face etc
Thank you for explaining the laser options so well. I’ve spent hours online trying to decipher which does what and end up more confused. The brand names vs laser type gets cumbersome. Very appreciated!
Hi dear Dr Karam I as a Persian proud of you I always follow your effective information about the beauty and skin care through your videos, best videos clips I hope one day I can meet you ❤ thank you so much for your efforts all the very best with you, dear Doctor Karam.
Hi, Great video content. Thank you! I had a C02 Fractional laser & Deep Tca & Jessner peel for my wrinkles & sun damaged skin. My skin looks amazing & has only been 8 weeks! As you say...you need to put sunscreen on everyday!! My downtime was around 10 days BUT worth it DEFINITELY!!! 😁😊
He did do a video regarding peels and lasers because I saw it myself, go back on his page it should be there… I love a peel myself and I find the results amazing!!
You look better than great ! Thank you for answering such a personal question. You knowledge of how to organize your content makes you a effective teacher. What you have have done for you skin doesn't really pertain to any other patient. Trifecta is an effective treatment for me. Thank you for all the work to make it so simple.
I'm having fractional laser treatment skin resurfacing soon. Mine is for a few fine lines. I don't go out in the sun, and always wear a spf50. I have good skin for my age.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I want to thank you! This is so helpful to me in understanding the different types of lasers, how they work and the appropriate application for each. Now I will be able to have an informed and intelligent conversation with my clients regarding their needs. And, am much better informed to make a decision regarding the best laser for my practice. Grateful for you sharing your knowledge! Not everyone can teach, but you got it! 💯🔥🤩🤓
This is a great start to help me understand the different options. Im still trying to figure out which treatment uses something that feels like a bee sting? I know the IPL treatments feel like a scrape across the skin and the laser genesis doesn’t hurt at all. I have rosacea, and have had different treatments from a few different offices over the years.
I been waiting for this doctor to address darker skin tones in every video- especially talking about lasers- if you have melanin in your skin just check to see where you stand on the spectrum and if lasers are safe. I can’t believe this isn’t mentioned
This video has opened my eyes to the lasers I’ve heard about but was confused by. I am curious about others, like the Morpheus laser. Your recommendations for skin care are in line with what I’m doing already. At 62, I have some age spots and slightly sagging skin. Generally my complexion is clear of redness of any sort. Looks like I’ll be binge watching more of your videos to understand what procedures are right for me. Thank you Dr Karan for taking the time to do these helpful videos.
I am an entertainer and also a Wall Street woman. I live in Manhattan and I’d like to know who you would recommend for the halo laser in my area. Also I’d like to know exactly where you’re located I’m sorry I didn’t time do the research to find out but if you could save me some time that would be great thank you your videos are very informative and they are very factual to my knowledge.
Excellent explainer. I've been preparing a video about my Halo experience and had to do so much research breaking everything down - studies, the whole thing. Being that I'm not a Dr - it was a lot of information to take in, understand and then condense so the average person can understand. This lays it out in a simple and yet thorough manner. AND, the sunscreen, retinol/retinA follow-up is so key. Just fantastic!
Your explanation and teaching is so precise, thank you for sharing your expertise. I did watch it twice and took a few notes, great suggestion. Best wishes to you and your continued success.
Thank you. Finally a truly useful video on this topic by a real expert, instead of marketing attempts and personal testimonials that mostly don't apply. Can a laser treatment make surgery obsolete?
Very informative and much needed video. Thank you. Can you please also discuss trouble spots like hands and elbows and what we can do there? I hope I can get in for a consultation with you.
This is great information. I have sun damage on my driver’s side cheek; and my derm told me it wasn’t melasma & could be treated with laser whenever I wanted to address it. This gives me a starting point. Thank you!
You know what is really awesome besides your great videos? It's that you're answering these questions. That is SOOOOO helpful and educational, as well. I know, you answer in your spare time (insert hilarious laughter).
Great video! May I request a video on the best products to use after a laser treatment? What ingredients to find?Calming serums, type of moisturizer or if serums are better than creams? Is foundation allowed a day after?
Soon I want to get lasers done just to resurface the skin and boost collagen but I still need to do some research and find a good place in my area. Plus I'm still young so I'm in no rush. I'll most likely do Fraxel
Great informative video! Please make a video about the steps to do in skin care for getting ready for a laser treatment, and the importance of doing so. Thank you so much~
Fantastic explanation! I’ve gotten a lot of this information in bit & pieces frm folks but never in such an easy & comprehensive format. Thank you so much!
Have you done a video on plasma pen? I’m 71 years old, take good care of my skin but am considering this to improve lines above lip, sagging eyelids, and jowels. I am 135 lbs and in very good health.. thanks
Thank you Dr. Kamar for these very detailed informative videos. I have Ehlers Danlos Type 3 (ED III) with the hypermobility. This condition affects the production or use of collagen. My problems are not so much wrinkles (although I'm starting to have some) but loss of wolume and some sagging. I'm 57 and people think I'm much younger. I think that is because of my thin face and neck, my high cheeks and full lips and long dark hair. My skin is actually velvety and my hair very shiny and silky. It's kind of weird... I don't know what happens with the collagen... it's like it goes to the outside but it doesn't support my connection tissue at all and my face is going down! Anyways, I know my face and I'm starting to look old. I have a feeling that my options are very limited because this condition doesn't have a cure and the problem with the collagen will continue not to mention little cuts and scratches tend to need more time to heal. They heal, eventually, because I had many surgeries (in my mid section, front and back) and the incisions heal but I'm concerned about the healing of any incisions on my face...even the tiny incisions of microneedling...I'm afraid they can leave scars on me. I don't really know. I'm a little bummed up about it. I've never heard any plastic surgeon talk about how they can help patients with ED III. Do you have any patients with this condition? Were you able to help them? Can the results last in those cases? I would really trust your expert opinion. Mine could really be a case study! I think the vertical restore could also help with the pain I feel on my face. When I pull my face up I feel pain relief around my eyes and cheeks. I have chronic pain due to this and the fibromyalgia. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome. All of that is reflected on my face and although I try to smile I always look tired and in pain ... because I am. There's not too many people with ED but I bet, just like me, they all would like to look better. Thank you so much for your attention to my question and for doing such a wonderful job educating the public. Victoria
Hi! I have Ehlers Danlos too! Although, mine is Class 1 hyper mobility. Before I had my face /neck lift, my Dr called my rheumatologist to get his opinion on surgery. I was 56 when I had it. I do think that the EDS is responsible for some accelerated sagging in many areas of my body, in addition to the damage to joints from being loosely goosey…. I wish you much success in whatever you undertake 😊
Thank you!! Love Drs who don’t talk down to clients as if we can’t understand medical or complex topics. I had fraxel done years ago and loved!! Only down for a week and after the peeling, my face glowed. Then had BBL and Halo done and saw no difference in pigment or anything. Was disappointed for sure. Maybe dr didn’t have the lasers strong enough but it hurt like H$&@! Made no difference on surgical scars as well😢. Would do fraxel again in a heartbeat!

Goodness this is great information for everyone who is thinking of doing any of these lasers!
What about for men ? - what did u do to ur skin or face , you look fantastic !
How did you like the Halo treatment? I’m learning about fraxel dual and BBL
Great stuff!!! I am an EM physician. This was clear, well-organized (at least for my brain), and so very useful. Thank you!
Your explanation and teaching is so precise, thank you for sharing your expertise. I did watch it twice and took a few notes, great suggestion. Best wishes to you and your continued success.
Thank you for the layman's description of lasers!!! Such an awesomw video! You're the best:)
Glad you like them!
Thank you. Finally a truly useful video on this topic by a real expert, instead of marketing attempts and personal testimonials that mostly don't apply.
Can a laser treatment make surgery obsolete?
Alot of information 🤯🤯🤯 i think i’ll repeat this video another two times, just to figure out which treatment is the one i need🫣
What about PRP with Microneedling? Can you do a video on that?
You’re the best! You need a few clones. Thank you so helpful!!
Wow!!!! Awesome informative video...your very well spoken & make it easy to understand.
Very informative and much needed video. Thank you. Can you please also discuss trouble spots like hands and elbows and what we can do there? I hope I can get in for a consultation with you.

Excellent description of treatment options.
Thank you for enlightening us about lasers❤
Wow. You make this easy to understand! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
This is great information. I have sun damage on my driver’s side cheek; and my derm told me it wasn’t melasma & could be treated with laser whenever I wanted to address it. This gives me a starting point. Thank you!
I want to consult you
You know what is really awesome besides your great videos? It's that you're answering these questions. That is SOOOOO helpful and educational, as well. I know, you answer in your spare time (insert hilarious laughter).
Excellent. Very well explained. Please make video on different wavelengths of laser.please explain q switch and pico
Im reading the reviews on this doctor right now! Buyer BEWARE, YIKES!
Do you have any treatment for wrinkles under the eye? Thank you for your help❤
AMAZING VIDEO
This was helpful but I still don’t know difference between IPL and BBL.?
Thank you SO MUCH!! I’ve been trying to figure this out and it’s insanely confusing!!??
Great video! May I request a video on the best products to use after a laser treatment? What ingredients to find?Calming serums, type of moisturizer or if serums are better than creams? Is foundation allowed a day after?
Soon I want to get lasers done just to resurface the skin and boost collagen but I still need to do some research and find a good place in my area. Plus I'm still young so I'm in no rush. I'll most likely do Fraxel
Great information, much appreciated. Are there any lasers for facial skin tightening?
U the best at educating your audience. Thx for your valuable time
Great informative video! Please make a video about the steps to do in skin care for getting ready for a laser treatment, and the importance of doing so. Thank you so much~
Your secret love.
Fantastic explanation! I’ve gotten a lot of this information in bit & pieces frm folks but never in such an easy & comprehensive format. Thank you so much!
FANTASTIC recap!!!!
@@elisabethcasale6642 Thank you for sharing your information about this difficult to handle condition. It was very helpful. Best luck to you as well!
