  • The state champion European Beech tree at Wissahickon Valley Park has sadly been declining for years. This year, only a few small branches leafed out. It’s death teaches us that sometimes, appreciating nature should be done at a distance where humans can’t affect it.

What a bunch of Beeches, lol but seriously some humans won’t miss what we have till it’s gone.
    Sad but true

Why do ppl carve stuff into trees. I’ll never understand

Like the Caves of Lascaux… the act of visiting and appreciating it caused mold and deterioration of the ancient art and we had to permanently seal it up and stop going.
It’s unfortunate that humans just seem to destroy everything, whether we mean to or not…

As a non native tree it shouldnt be loved, and rather cut, burned or poisoned.

I agree, it's not even native to the land it's on . Soo..it's a novelty at this point

It's still a piece of living history. If it isn't invasive or otherwise harming its ecosystem, then we shouldn't be happy for its demise
