When this was first released in 2006, each film was sold separately and not as a trilogy set. Most people did not have wide HDTVs at the time so we did not quite see how substandard the theatrical presentations were. Once I got an HDTV, I just switched the aspect ratio to sort of zoom in while still keeping all of the picture. Lucasfilm was being sort of bratty about proving how "subpar" the "original theatrical films" were by not giving them the typical enhancement for a DVD, as if to say "well, you wanted 'unaltered', so here you go and you can see how much better it looks now." It is a strange thing to happen to some of the most popular films in the world. Since then I have gotten the Despecialized Editions.
About 11 or 12 years ago, I bought the 2006 DVDs individually online. They were not cheap back then either. About three years ago, I bought the 1995 video boxset online.
@@rickrackramon1444 Tempted to get the Special Edition trilogy set from 1997 on video too. They were pretty much the first version I was introduced to. Before 2012 when I got the 2006 DVDs with the theatrical versions, I had the 2004 DVD set--and still do.
I don't know any specific players or models, but I use a Sony 3D Blu-ray player and my PS4. I have used LG and Samsung players, they were pretty good. So any of those brands are good. I hope that answers your question.
The original cut versions are too expensive to be released. Lucas said himself. If Disney has the rights to released it for the public. They exist in different editions when they were released on vhs in the 1980s and came to dvd. Blu-ray. Hd.
I recently watched a fantastic video about the 'originals'. It was released in mono, and stereo, and 35mm, and 70mm. They all had differences. I believe the mono and stereo 'original' releases had different voice actors for Aunt Beru. Opened my eyes to when someone says they want the original theatrical release version, now I wonder which original release they want. Interesting!
That’s cool, I didn’t know that. I did learn that’s Star Wars has been edited multiple times, but it’s probably just a few changes and some added CGI. Thanks for the details.
Basically when people say they want the "originals," they want to see the films as they saw them before the changes with the 1997 Special Edition. There might have been different sound mixes, or "Episode IV: A New Hope" added, or one of C-3PO's lines on the Death Star was in or out, but they did not alter the scenes in the film which viewers had liked, learned, and wanted to see. Those changes were not done with the sense that the film needed an "updating." The real frustration comes from the same treatment not being given to the theatrical versions (like with other movies with various versions like "E.T.", "Apocalypse Now," "Blade Runner," "Legend") and rendering them hard to get.
@@hanselmansell7555 it’s been a while, but from what I remember there aren’t too many differences. Some scenes are missing and no CGI. If you want to know exactly, some videos on RUclips tell you the differences.
I didn’t know about the Harmy versions. I know Star Wars was edited multiple times, but that’s cool to know. I do agree they should release the theatrical version again, maybe this is the way.

I have the one that he has in the video. My tv has a zoom setting where it fits perfectly into a letterbox format so it doesn’t look like garbage for Me. If it was on a more modern tv it probably would look like garbage but i still have a 2006 plasma tv

Nice, you got multiple versions

The original is not a new hope, it was just Star Wars but, you know that already.
Yeah, you’re right. I forgot to mention that. Thanks for reminding me 👍
I've just got this exact collection but I need a region 1 player. Any suggestions?

The original cuts never been released

There's no special editions of the prequel trilogy yet. How they be like. Maybe never.

This was the DVD's that include the poor LaserDisk transfer. One better find the original LaserDisks, especially the Japanese copies.
I forgot about LaserDisk, that version would be nice to check out.
So it looks like you got an incomplete set there since half the discs are missing
Yeah I noticed that, but I do have the original trilogy on blu-ray. I just the theatrical cut.
I have this set but mine has both disc 1 and 2
Nice, I was just happy to get the Theatrical cut
I used to have this very same set, i didn't like how they did the widescreen it's not anamorphic like how they should be.
Yhat aside great set.
Yeah, I will agree it’s not perfect, but it’s still cool having the theatrical cut.
@@rickrackramon1444 agreed 👍🏻
What? Surely not the original original?
It is I used to own it as well same set.
From what I learned this is the one that came out in theaters so it must be original.

I hope you didnt kill George Lucas to obtain this Holy Grail.
Don’t worry, he’ll be fine. I didn’t do anything too crazy 😂
Why are you acting like it's a good thing that you got a set with 3 discs missing? Lol. I know you already have the others, but... erm.
I understand it would have been nice to have it complete, but I'm just happy to have the theatrical cut of the movies.
Too bad they look like garbage. The Harmy versions are excellent. Need to just give in and release those officially. People WILL buy Star Wars AGAIN.
