At the end, one of the presenters usually says they'll be back tomorrow "bright and early," at 4:30 a.m. But at this time of year, at 4:30, it is pitch black outside. ("Pitch black" is another collocation.) Such collocations are so much a part of the language that I had to hear him say it numerous times before it occurred to me that it is not bright at that hour. I'm not up at that hour, I just watch the tail end (there's another one) of the show. Anyway, Happy New Year.
