Going after Markkanen makes a lot of sense if the decision has been made to make Kuminga the starter, which certainly looks to be the case. A slasher at the 3, and a stretch 4. Makes sense.
I feel like giving up moody is a chance . He’s young no injuries and every time he gets playtime i think he does well. He has the same potential as Buddy Hield in his shot making he has it in him . A good trade would be Looney and Wiggins for Mark or no trade at all . Keeping Moses would be good for the warriors
100% Moody could have a breakout season like Kuminga last year now that his role could change...he was clutch when everybody else was struggling in a bunch of close losses last season, they should have let him close out games more.
I don’t want to give up GP2. I understand his health concerns. But he does what he does at an elite level and it 100% translates into playoff basketball. I have also been against trading Wiggins and had been hoping that we would have used the CP3 salary to affect a trade. Wiggins defense is ELITE. Kyle Anderson makes me a little more open to trading Wiggins. Because he is very good defensively at 6’9. Do the deal for Wiggins and picks. Trade Looney and Moody (or Kuminga) to get under the apron. I don’t trust Kuminga in high leverage playoff moments. I trust GP2. I trust Moody. I trust Podz. The trust factor makes me say, let Kuminga go. Lauri becomes our future.
@@LetsGoWarriors Perhaps Raptors can join the trade, getting Wiggins that they need, dumping Bruce Brown and sending 1 first round pick, Warriors send 3 first round picks. Jazz receive those 4 first round picks. Warriors get Lauri Mark. and Bruce Brown. Then try to send Payton and Bruce Brown, may be Moody as well in another trade.
@stevenbarton8031 not that good? Last year per 36 he was 22pts 7rebs 3asst 1steal 1 block on 53% shooting while taking most of his shots in the mid range. He kusted needed playing time. When he played over 30 minutes he balled.
@edwardcoward1062 He is okay but he isnt ever going to be some elite player. I highly doubt he will ever be as good as Laurie is now. Kuminga is mostly good because of his athleticism. He isn't a great shooter, his handles are average, his bball IQ is avg or below, and his passing is below. He relies on in transition to get by before the defense is set up. He can be useful especially for certain teams but he is not dome Kobe level player Lacob tries to make him out to be.
@TB-vb3ov teams that are sending trade requests are saying different than what you're saying. He definitely going to be an elite player. He shoots contested midrange shots at a ~50% rate but can't shoot? Interesting. His handles are good. His basketball iq is average. His passing is good. He passes guys open, knows when to pass, and understands where the open shot is going to be. He doesn't rely on transition to score but he will utilize it. He relies on iso mostly which with his footwork, he shines. Dude is a star.
No doubt, JK is a good barometer. I mean, Clippers wanted him and Lacob said no per Brett Siegel sources, for example (Draymond on his podcast implied Clips had said yes to a deal without JK then reneged, fyi). So I think you’re in the same boat as Lacob. My thing is, if they can’t find picks for Wiggs (and whomever else, like Moody maybe?) to satisfy Ainge, what’s Plan B if JK is untouchable? I guess Podz, but JK has to be Plan C at least, right? If Ainge wants picks but only JK will satisfy a substitution for a pick, then you’re stuck with Melton and Anderson - that’s not a championship squad and you might as well have tanked (which Lacob wouldn’t do out of respect for Steph and Dray) - you see how circular this is and why I think the Warriors will get it done somehow? All this being said, I could be wrong and have been wrong many times before.
But in this scenario, Lauri is only making $17 mill this coming season. The $33 mill will count towards the 25-26 season. Post will probably be a two-way contract anyway. If Payton CAN stay healthy, he is a very valuable piece for a championship team. His D alone is worth what he is paid.
+ he’s a great role player . He can spot up and shoot the 3 at times , get a bucket under the basket i think his skill set is underrated . He could easily be that player who could dominate as a starter with more minutes.
We were under the impression that Lauri contract would need to be re-negotiated to be higher (ie, a raise - can’t do the NFL thing where you lower it). It’s gotta be this way otherwise he can only make 40% on his extension. But, that being said, I’m not a CBA expert so I’d say there is a tiny chance I’m wrong on this.
I love this. I love keeping Podz and JK, but what do the Jazz get out of this. Are they going to let him go for just picks? Word is they want Podz at least.
Jazz are at an infection point. They need to absolutely suck this year. So picks are the main focus. Podz is young talent so that would be a choice for them, but I dont think the warriors want to come off that and its not imperative for Utah to get that if they want to tank. I would think GS would be able to offer rights to Nico Manion who they pull up for Utah. Picks and filler to match the money going out. Ainge does not really need players at this point, he needs draft potential.
@Jeff I don’t think there’s any word that Podz is wanted. Where are you hearing that from and is it a credible source? If you have a link or a name, I will research it. I still need to research the now-dead rumor of Keegan Murray because I would’ve been surprised Ainge would want any players back. Absent a rumor that GSW is mulling about parting ways with X, Y or Z player, the assumption is that Ainge wants to stockpile picks a la OKC. Granted, it is a major assumption but I think the safest bet for now. I do not rule out the possibility that JK and/or BP could be thought of as adequate replacements for Draft picks, in Ainge’s eyes, but the prevailing wisdom per The Monty Show is that Ainge has a list of demands (implying Draft picks) and you either meet those or you don’t because that’s how he rolls. And yet, I think GSW would indeed part with JK and/or BP if a gun were pointed at Lacob’s head (and Ainge was ok with those players instead of picks), so THAT gives me confidence the Warriors will work their asses off to get something done.
Why can’t curry take a little pay cut? If we don’t make a deep play off run…. It will be so stupid to earn 10 mil more, and have a bad team. Even for Steph
I hope we get Lauri Bird! There’s a few other players with similar salaries the Dubs could target… Ingram 36M, Ayton 34M, Jerami Grant 30M. Ayton is on the Bahama team with Heild, who Demarco is coaching. He helped recruit Heild…
Thank you for the expert and in-depth explanation but it will not change the fact that Ainge will most likely ask for Kuminga, Podz and/or Moody plus several picks, all of which Joe Lacob will not agree to. You can crunch numbers all you want but the Jazz's current GM is greedy AF.
You may be right, but I’m hoping this era of GMs has shown that there are more fair deals out there. Worst-case scenario, Warriors lose JK, Podz and another pick or two right? I think that’s a good worst-case, actually, and I’d probably do the deal still. Which is why I’m confident it will get done
I love your analysis. Any idea why Warriors didn't get rid of Payton's contract by trading him along with KT? Warriors almost got nothing from KT trade, just two second-round picks.
They barely got anything because Klay was a free agent .. that was klay doing them a favor allowing them to at least get something by him signing then trading .. he could have just signed with the mavs directly but he still made sure warriors weren’t completely hanging
That might work. I don’t if that’s central to getting Markkanen or not. We shall see. A lot of TPEs could be created or used here, idk the exact rules on them, but I do know the Warriors are, per Monte Poole, working their asses off.
