I own a 2017 Softail Slim with V&H exhaust, intake and FP3 with less than 500 miles on it, and the 'canned' MAP suggested by V&H runs just fine, but its far too rich, so forget any of the negative reviews by others here, because this video was clear, concise and 'extremely' helpful to me. In fact, rather than being "DanDanTheFireman" . . . it should be "DanTheManTheFireman"! Awesome effort and helpful beyond words! Many thanks amigo!
You have to put it at every rpm strady then full throttle up to redline then roll off that gives the computer the best reptesentaion and you could be in first so you dont have to speed
Funny thing I bought my iron 883 and an FP3 and such in 2019 all brand new was running basic map until I just did a quick autotune ran it for a few miles it ran like crap then I did a quick run in 1st and 2nd and hit both limiters just acting like an ass, saved all of that and seems to run ok lol I’ll do more auto tune and see what happens
Hey brother bought my first bike 2015 harley iron 883 and came with bunch of mods and the fuelpack. My question is should i plug in the fuelpack and leave it connected all time? Thanks 😊
You're right, Tucson is pretty; however, my wife and I went out west this past summer (we live in Florida). We went thru the Grand Canyon, Sedona and then on to Tucson to visit my uncle. He has an enormous, beautiful home facing the mountain in Oro Valley. Sedona was by far the most beautiful outdoors I've seen in the US.
Bro I've seen so many videos on this and it seemed kind of a hassle so I got over it. For some reason you made it seem fun and easy haha 😄 I think I'll get this done now
ok, but was the RESULT of the autotune??? Don't need a video on how to autotune, just press the button and go ride. How did it impact performance?? BTW, it DOESN'T do anything until the results are flashed to the ECM, it might run worse in autotune mode. Was the decel pop feature worthwhile? Haven't seen a single decent video on the FP3 yet. People are overly fascinated with the phone interface. Sure it's nice but how does the FP3 improve the bike's performance??? That should have been the focus of the second video, not a real time ride showing cells on the screen changing colors. One minute of that gets the point across. Saw that in the first video.
Just curious why you don't run in lower gears so you can cover more of your TPS:RPM ratios. ie: stuff up over 4500 RPM at various throttle percentages. I wouldn't think you'd need interstate or as much desolate highway travel if you just ran the bike harder in lower gears? Thanks for making the video though. I just got another Sportster (this time with fuel injection) and I installed the Fuelpak today because I simply wanted a richer map than the factory one. I'm going to embark on the autotune now that I think I know what it's all about. Your video helped me, but I feel like I want more of the higher RPM stuff filled in as well. Not really a problem for me since I end up at 5500 RPM easily enough when accelerating onto the interstate. If I simply drove in 4th gear at interstate speed I think it'd cover a lot more of the range than you were able to cover in your videos. Or is there a reason you didn't try to fill in the higher RPM mapping data?
Mount Lemon looks fun. I'm riding my bike from Wisconsin to San Diego in June, I'm likely not going through Tucson, but I will be going through Yuma. Any suggestions in Yuma?
Have you experienced the typical backfire spamming when auto tuning/post auto tune? In the process of auto tuning myself and I notice it has a stupid amount of deceleration pop at throttle position 0, no matter what setting I put it on. The decel pop also seems to make the bike choke a little when shifting or taking off from a start which is super annoying. Quite a few FP3 owners have this problem across HD bike models. Just wanted to know if you have experienced this issue yet and how you may have fixed it.
Hi Dan... if you apply the new map over the old map.. could the FP3 overwrite an existing green from the map you loaded in episode 1 with an Orange you haven’t fully learned in this episode .?
There is actually I believe seven different ecosystems going up that mountain pretty amazing one thing I didn’t notice is you didn’t go through a pay station to go up that mountain I believe don’t you have to pay now to go up Mount Lemmon?
garrett martin From what I was told by my friend who was a Harley mechanic and now service manager at a HD dealership, just putting slip ons doesn't affect much. If you go to a full exhaust set up, you need a tuner. Same with putting on an aftermarket air system. I put slip ons on my Harley and even though it's more open than stock, I didn't have any problems. Ordered an aftermarket air system and the FP3 with it.
every tuner I asked said that this cannot really work because the sensors in the exhaust are not accurate enough (lambda sensor). This must be broadband sensors... This nice colors green and orange are just to satisfy the customer and judge the high price
I saw your first Autotune where your at gas station. I have read that a dyno cant hook up to the fp3 I guess it don't have usb port not not compatible. Can you use a dyno to zero in the maps alot better since you can use full throttle without speeding or putting yourself at risk riding. Ya I think a lot lol. I will get the fp3 I'm think on upgrading my cams on my rocker, it's 103 with 10.5 compression. Forgot what cams but want to put in 585 or higher easy start cams since I had to replace my starter. Also you dont have to go high speed at full throttle, I believe you might be able to do it at lower gear at lower speed. Also is that the same air cleaner and gernade exhaust. All great videos.
A professional tuner can use the FP3 software to do precision tunes. It has that option. The Autotune option is for people that dont want to take it to a dyno.
You say "do it safely" alot. Good content though, I like your channel. I have a 2018 streetbob with a 107 cubic inch motor, six speed, that i am wanting an FP3 for
There is the option in the FP-3 to send your map to Vance and Hines. I imagine they will look at the learned values and fill in the cells that we werent able to get during auto tune. Does anyone know if the base maps, auto tune, or Vance and Hines "tweeks" chance timing at all or is it strictly air/fuel
Why are you not going over 4000 rpm? Seems like you need to get on it more to cover wide open throttle at high RPMs. You're short shifting almost every time.
I think that at this point of your autotune you can send that map to Vance and Hines and based on the learned values they can fill in the cells not learned yet
This may be cheaper in the long run but wow every time i watch one of the videos for this unit it seems like it takes 500 plus miles just to do a tune and in that time its not running completely right (pops, sputters, etc..). Which to me means it may be running to rich... to lean... and all over the place. Not very good for the engine IMO. If I'm wrong help me understand how?
@@MasterTech396 for the price i paid for my 2019 Harley Davidson Ultra limited "should be close enough " won't cut it, not to mention there goes the warranty. If i am going to tune my bike i till be done correctly on a dyno. Just like i did.
Hey Vance & Hines made the base maps specifically for the parts you say you have on the bike. So I doubt they would put out anything that would harm the bike. When I said close enough I mean your computer will be able to counter any small discrepancies in the base tune. The Autotune function is to super fine tune the base map that V&H made. If you are worried about your bikes warranty then just get the Screaming Eagle tuner instead. Btw the reason Dans bike was sputtering and sounding like crap is his exhaust had come loose so that had nothing to do with the tune on the bike.
@@MasterTech396 i was just responding to your comment "should be fine". You didn't seem sure of yourself. I'll stick with a wide band tune like a true dyno tune. Those are narrow band tune unless a wide band Oxygen sensor is added. Its much more cost effective and more powerful to use a dyno tune. That's fact. I want the most reliable power out of my bike. And at 116hp (stock was 89hp) and 134tq (stock was 107tq) out of my 114ci stage 2 at the rear tire.. i am very pleased with
The FP3 can also be used on a dyno. Has actual tables for a professional tuner to modify if that’s the way you wanna go. I don’t know of any dynos in my area so this kit seems like it will work for me once I get the Ventilator intake from HD for my Fatboy. You are right I was a tad vague in my first comment. I usually try to dumb down the technicals when commenting.
Yes you have to get a tune for changing pipes but if you change the pipes you need to upgrade your air cleaner too cause when your engine lets more air out it also needs to let more air in to compensate for it.
I have a 2020 sportster. If i take the stock mufflers off and run straight pipes will i be able to tune the bike right with this? Not sure what options are avaible in the mapping.
LOL Please don't just remove your mufflers lmfao I mean a ebay muffler would be better than that plan... I just got used Bassani mufflers and they are loud af.. It's a 2020 brother don't treat it like that man thats sad and I aint even around ya lol
Secondly, Not sure if you are still wondering this, but you can get the app, go into demo mode before purchase and see what maps they have built. They have a ton now in 2020.. They got the Bassani so I'm stoked to order. N on my 2018 with stock filter and slip-ons I noticed it really needs to be tuned up regardless of others saying it doesn't. Enjoy your new ride man.
Thanks for the videos on the fp3 I just got mine and having the shop install it along side my air cleaner and super radius. I head u saying if u install the air cleaner I might need to do the autotune. I feel kinda weird asking the mechanic if he just uploaded the program for the pipes or did he tune it with the air cleaner also. Hopefully I made sense lol. I'm going to ask him anyways and if anything I'll just autotune it as u did. I think I'll like doing it myself anyways.
exactly what I was thinking ... no reason to hit the highway if you get after it in third. The gears are meant to keep revs low, why not take advantage of being able to control throttle and rpm.
Watching this video is one of the most frustrating things I've seen in a while. Why are you shifting it at 3k? Rev it out and learn the upper ranges. You can stay in a lower gear, learn the RPM and Throttle Ranges.

Its funny the last auto tune session I noticed he was in tucson going down cracroft lol
I like that playing Tetris with Harley.
Great Video Dan! I watched both parts and learned a lot! Many questions answered! Thanks!
I just got an FP3 for my road glide. These two videos were very helpful. Thanks for being so detailed.
God your bike sounds so much better in the 2nd video. Hell yeah, man.
Sounds much better than the 1st video
Great Video on the FP3 i just got mine and will try to do the autotune session on it over the weekend thanks
Gear does not matter therefore you should just run to the limiter in 1st and 2nd gear, it would be so much quicker to tune

Great video. Answered all my questions. Man, AZ is beautiful!
I agree with Aaron Jones, speed is not the issue here; it's all about throttle position and RPM's
I see thanks do u think u can run two up on the little sporter
So what does the fuel pack do is it giving u more horse power?
