Your battery seems to be getting old or you have a poor connection somewhere in the starter motor circuit. My 2010 FXSTC does that a lot when it wants to tell me something. If it wasn't so difficult to replace it on my model I'd have an All Balls starter in it by now. Also FWIW, I'd have the bike running in top for before installing a tuner. Clean the air filter and throttle body, put in fresh plugs and so on. You don't want the tuner or autotune to be trying to bandaid a problem with ignition, timing, spark, fuel flow and so on. I was hearing a lot of misfires... could be just the audio cutting out. Of course I have no idea how well (or poorly) your engine was running before you installed the tuner. Great video! Much appreciate the detail you provided.
It was a crap battery from the start . I put in an antigravity restart lithium ion and it starts like nothing. Worth the money I have a video about it on my channel. A bit expensive but worth it.
Great video the only thing I noticed as you didn’t get in your upper rpm range you never got any green box down towards the bottom of your screen and your upper RPMs or with your throttle position open further.
I probably could have done alittle more but I have to say I am super happy with how the bike runs with the tune. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.
@@teucer4 Its your bike but that is stupid.. the cylinder temps will wear your liners and coatings out so fast the bike will be shot in 15k miles or much less if it has bearing issues due to extreme heat.. Lean is Hot.. you need fuel to cool the cylinders and heads..
Nice give it a good run at all speeds and rpm’s if you’re auto tuning and remember all the cells will not turn green. And if you want to really dial it in contact Vance and hines and they will look at the tune and tweak it. Good luck let me know how it goes

I had the shop install mine when they changed the pipes. I hit a deer last year and since ive gotten the bike back i feel like the air/fuel ratio is off. Bogging a little an acceleration in the higher rpm range and ive been wanting to try this autotune thing for a while but i fear my lack of fuelpack knowledge may screw things up more. Thanks for this. Ill give it a shot wish me luck 😅
Good Luck. The biggest thing is to expect the bike to run terribly and possibly even stall. So make sure you don’t take any turns in front of anyone that is close. I don’t think you can screw it up to bad you can always reinstall the old map as long as you don’t erase it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
really informative video,i have a 1200 nightster and have problems around 35-45 mph with the engine searching, when the bike gets back from the shop (major service, new rear master cylinder and a look at the running side of things, maybe mechanic will have sorted it?) if not i will try the auto tune thanks
DONT AUTO TUNE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE WIDE BAND Oxygen sensor year sporty. I have an 07 nightster. Short shots and intake. It runs horrible. Cold start issues. Throttle response issues. Everything. The narrow band O2 sensors in the early models can’t properly tell the software what’s going on. Use the preset tunes. Works amazingly. I had so many issues auto tuning. Once I flashed a pre made tune on my sporty it runs great. More power and torque everywhere without any holes or hiccups.
I have a 2005 Dyna Wide Glide, fuel injected, I believe this bike is too old for that particular tuner from V&H but I think there's others that work, that's what I've been researching. I noticed my V&H Bigshots or Longshots starting to turn a straw color on the rear pipe a couple months ago and lately the front pipe is a little. I haven't been riding it much because I've been adding things to it, put new brakes and rotors on, new windshield etc. Anyway, after a while it started missing here and there usually at cruise speeds then started popping when I'd decelerate. I put new spark plugs and wires on a few days ago and the missing is gone, I still can't figure out why the pipes started turning gold, maybe the computer leans it out when the spark plugs start going bad, IDK but they were carbon fouled pretty bad, especially the front cylinder, the gap was almost completely closed from carbon on that one. I'm going to talk to the bike mechanic here first, he might be able to throw a tune on it himself, maybe it just needs to be re-mapped....
Jeff Stone talking with a professional is a great place to start. I have a project bike I am working on now and just figured out the craziest problem. Check out project bike episode 2 on my channel. It just goes to show you never know what it can be. Ride safe and thanks for watching!!
I have the fuel pak and only flashed the correct map with my stage one and it has run perfect. No need for auto tune. I have a vance & Hine parts so no real need to auto tune. Just a person preference really. If the people you are running are not vance & Hines then maybe you will have to do an auto tune. I had the 1200 screamin eagle conversion kit installed over the winter. Vance & Hines employee says all I need to do is flash the 1200 conversion map and it all should be fine since the map is specific to the screamin eagle conversion.
My bike ran okay with stock map. But ran better after autotune. I have vance and hines slip on and screaming Eagle air filter. Thanks for watching and letting me know what you found out. Happy New Year 🎊 Ride Safe

Hey there great videos. I just installed the Vance and Hines slip ons on my 2021 iron 1200 and I have the FP3 fuel pack on the way. Will that stop all the popping and sputtering ? Thanks and have a good one.
How would it be doing better in auto-tune if you have an applied the tune yet? I pulled the baffles in naturally Vance and Hines don't approve so they don't have maps for it and it's sputtering pretty badly taking off in first. I'm hoping that today when I put more time on it, it'll run better, then I'm just going to leave it on apply so it automatically does it every time I get on the bike.
Hey Carl quick question. So say I go out for the first part of my ride to map the lower RPMs with just city cruising. Then I upload that learned data and continue to go onto the highway to get the higher RPM learned. When I stop to finalize with the higher RPM Learning There will obviously be a few blocks in the lower RPM relearned. So my question is if I plug-in the learn data once I get the lower RPMs green and then I go to the highway for a second session to get the higher RPMs And I pop a couple of oranges in the lower RPMs is that going to save the orange over the green that’s already learned when I finalize? I guess that’s kind of confusing but from the videos I’ve watched people do this in multiple sessions over one day. So they will continuously plug-in the learns data as they go. However once you plug in what you’ve learned it resets the learning map. I would hate to do 2 to 3 uploads before I finalize and then have it save in orange box over something where I already had the green previously. I hope that makes sense LOL
I installed it and rode for a full tank but still runs like shit, backfires like crazy, maybe one green squere and rest are dark. I think I need to do it again from the scratch..
Try it again fill the tank and ride as long as you can at different speeds and rpm without shutting it off and download it. If it runs better and is close contact vance and hines and they can tweek the map. I found doing it in one segment worked better.
I bought a 2000 road king that already had some Screamin Eagle upgrades. The problem is I’m not sure exactly what the previous owner did to it. Like what, if any cam or even what size jugs. I think it’s a 95Ci but not 100% sure. Will this give me an idea as to what I’ve got? Or Do I have to know the information first?
I think it only asks for exhaust and if you have a high flow air cleaner but your bike is also older so I am not sure what fuel pak will work with it you should call vance and hines or ask a harley dealer
I want to get one of these for my 19 1200 but my bike doesn't have a keyed ignition so it looks like its going to lose connectivity when i turn the bike off during mapping/tuning but shouldn't be a big deal.
I don’t think it will be a problem just do what the app tells you to. I am sure if it was a problem I would have read about it somewhere. Let me know how you make out. Thanks for watching
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Sorry for the later reply, my 2019 was totalled in a hit and run. Just for the FP3 for my 2021 which also is keyless and the FP3 works great!

I don't think I heard anywhere. How long did it take you to get the whole auto tune done? I have the FP4 but it's taken a while of me just riding around. Still not complete.
You will never fill the entire screen you just want most of it I think I did it in 3 hours. Drive on all different roads and highways in different gears at different speeds really mix it up.
Kevin Craig I believe it takes the map you autotune off of and just dials it in a little better for your bike. They recommend riding for like around 3 half hour sessions at different speeds and conditions. I just did it all in one day. It did make a difference especially at low rpm. I don’t know about elevation changes. They don’t even do that when they dyno you’re bike I don’t believe,
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl thanks I understand that they cant change air pressures in a an uncontrolled environment but was just wondering what it would do taking it let's say from sea level to 14000 ft just wondering how wide of window it is capable of ?
The fuel pac 3 isn't a speed density tuner it's a alpha N tuner,it only takes rpm and throttle position inputs and tunes off of them,it won't tune for altitude or load,
No they say it’s not possible to get them all if you run for a few hours at all different speeds and rpm you get the important ones I believe. Thanks for watching and commenting good luck with your tune.
Quick question, I have a 2015 dyna low rider and with full stage 1 using an FP3. if you do multiple auto tune sessions the result will be combine all together ?
C hueyrun I believe but am not positive that you need to keep it on that map till you are done tuning. When ever I turned the bike off I applied values. When you feel like you have got enough time you hit the finish button.
Yea I think I did something wrong. When I tried to do an auto tune session on my 2016 road king it ran like absolute SHIT, felt like it was running on 1 cylinder and making about 5HP. Quickly went back to a unmodified map, the bike could hardly get out of its own way and didn't learn any cells after about 5 minutes.
Rom Ligno I don’t think you can leave the autotune session map till you hit finish anyway. Its been a while now. I may do an updated video in a couple of weeks now that I have been using it all summer
Understandable. You never want to ride a bike with poor performance in traffic. But if you do it just be careful and prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Thanks for watching and commenting
I am a believer in full stops but on my motorcycle I try not to put my feet down more than I have to. I talked to a few officers and they told me most of the time they wouldn’t bother a motorcycle if they at least come close to stopping. Just my opinion for the most part I follow the rules and do reasonable speeds.
Rokform. I really like it for the bike but being an electrician the magnetic case picks up all kind of metal shavings on ghe job site. I would recommend it but find a way to keep the charge port covered if you are around alot of metal scraps.
Purchased a stage 3 kit for my 103 switchback. Already have the FP3. Would auto tune work with the new cam and other internals or would I just need to get a custom tune?
You will want to call Vance & Hines. They will give you a map for your specific set up and just download and go. They told me to run a couple tank through and call them back with any issues. Been raining since, so haven't been able to test.
if you were to have read the instructions you would have known that autotune turns off all of the cold start features of the fuel injection. You need to warm the bike up first if its a cold day.
Yes I leave mine permanently hooked up to the bike so I can look at things whenever. I also have my phone mounted on my bars so I can use it to display extra gauges if I want also. It’s married to the bike so I might as well use it otherwise it would just sit in the garage.

Hey Carl, what sort of mileage were you getting with the downloadable map before the auto tune? I'm getting around 100km out of mine then the fuel light comes on but it still has around 4 litres in the tank.
Tim Finning if I am converting correctly thats only around 62 miles. I was getting about 87 to 90 miles out of mine before the fuel light comes on and that leaves me about the same as you about 1 gallon. Do you have the same size tank? Mine is a little over 3 gallons. I am not sure how its doing after autotune I forgot to reset my gauge after fill up. Also I noticed with mine if you do a bunch of short trips starting really cold often on a tank my milage seemed to be lower. Also I make sure my tank is as full as I can get it when I fill it.
Im also thinking of my cellphone battery... since in the manual it states there that you need to do 3 sessions at 60 min per session to be able to tune properly and hit the finish button.. my bike does not have a USB port what if my cellphone battery drains while im tuning

debra thane I don’t think it has an acronym. I believe it is an actual map that gets flashed to your ecu/ecm and tells your fuel injection system how much fuel to add at different times. I am not a Harley Tech so thats my take I know about the basics (enough to make me dangerous) lol
Manifold pressure what actually.does is an afr it adjust the mixture to different loads that are seen by monitoring intake manifold pressure's when you are running with in epa regs your engine is running lean the tuner brings the mixture to best power getting the most out of your engine the way it was designed to run before the icebergs started to melt

Thanks for watching. I love that beach.
Great video . I’m using auto tune now on my street glide special, doing a few rides w it before I hit finish
Enjoy hopefully your new map runs great!! Thanks for watching
It'll only change the map when you apply the learned autotune settings. You could ride around all day but if you don't apply it, nothing will change.
Yes you have to load the map. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I saved $400 and continue to run factory settings on the ECM and will probably continue to do so, regardless of intake and exhaust upgrades.
How does the bike run? Any ideas of head Temperatures? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Bike runs fine. Decel pop doesn’t bother me.
Man I am auto tuning some custom pipes right now it is taking the fuel pac some time but it's working good for me
Nice give it a good run at all speeds and rpm’s if you’re auto tuning and remember all the cells will not turn green. And if you want to really dial it in contact Vance and hines and they will look at the tune and tweak it. Good luck let me know how it goes
Not big on stop signs. Thanks for the video. Will be getting a tuner for my street glide real soon.
I try not to put my feet down unless I have to. But I almost come to a stop lol. I asked a cop and he said they usually won’t bust your balls if you almost stop and don’t put your feet down. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl thanks for the heads up. That definitely would have made me panic and think I did damage. Appreciate the assist ✌️
really informative video,i have a 1200 nightster and have problems around 35-45 mph with the engine searching, when the bike gets back from the shop (major service, new rear master cylinder and a look at the running side of things, maybe mechanic will have sorted it?) if not i will try the auto tune thanks
Thanks for watching good luck with it.
I just purchase one today..thanks for feed back
DONT AUTO TUNE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE WIDE BAND Oxygen sensor year sporty.
I have a 2019 absolutely no problems autotuning. And a couple of guys I know had theirs tweeked by vance and hines after the autotune
What year did they change?
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Will do, thanks...
Appreciate the video, installing mine tomorrow. Ride safe
I just put mine in yesterday. Confused if my bike learned anything . But it's fun just the same . Today is gonna be a 6 hrs ride day
Me too. A little confused with the app.
Best thing I think is to check things out in the demo mode on the app. You can see everything without being connected to the FP3
@@dontworrybehappy8080 Its fun it will cater to how you ride . Then once you finish your blocks you can call Vance & Hines and they will walk and talk you through what you have to do on your end and they can trouble shoot your bike . Like mine was running rich they corrected what I didnt know how to fix myself . It was cool . And I had a ball tuning my own bike it was a blast to say the least . I filled in most of my blocks in two days in low mid and high rpm . High rpm you need room to move ( note ) it was scary fun .....
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl I'll try that today thanks.
@@brianrahuba6919 That's one issue I've been having. It's also been running rich. I keep getting check engine light. It will go away when Autotune off but comes back.

I really like it. I also keep mine mounted on the bike and have my phone mounted on my handlebars so I can access it anytime and use the gauges. I think that was Wilton CT
great video thanks for the demonstration. also noticed you have some sorta cruise control bracket on your throttle. duno if you know but theres a small thumb wheel your thumb should be able to reach right under your switches on your right hand.. it has a spring on it.. thats your "cruise control" ;)
FxdwgMa I believe the lever you are referring to is a tentioner for your throttle. It adds resistance. Would take to long to get off in an emergency. The cruise on my bike was very inexpensive. I did a video on it. Thanks for watching hopefully you check out my other videos!

Hey there great videos. I just installed the Vance and Hines slip ons on my 2021 iron 1200 and I have the FP3 fuel pack on the way. Will that stop all the popping and sputtering ? Thanks and have a good one.
Mine did it has standard maps or you can do an autotune. It also has s decel pop reduction.

Yes it got rid of most of the decel pop. Thanks for watching
Really interesting mate....might do it with mine
What kind of phone mount are you using?? Looks pretty steady and tight..
Rokform they are awesome. I have a video about it on my channel. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Your bike will run like crap while in autotune until you download the new map.
Hello ! What about fuel consumption after mapping the bike ?
About the same.
I am not sure but if I had to guess I would think it takes the best of all sessions and uses those readings
Thanks for the follow up
Nice real review buddy
Thanks and remember after you do an autotune if you contact vance and hines they will make some fine tuning to the map for you.
I’m almost positive I need to map my bike. It sputters when it’s cold and on take off a little
Give it a try. Thanks for watching
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl my tables aren’t really filling up with data. Everything is orange that did fill 🤔
I am surprised the tune was loaded with that killswitch in the off position.
It was stored it was between runs I believe. It was quite a while ago. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great viedo. But do you ever stop at stop signs? lol
I try my best not to put my feet down lol.
I want to get one of these for my 19 1200 but my bike doesn't have a keyed ignition so it looks like its going to lose connectivity when i turn the bike off during mapping/tuning but shouldn't be a big deal.

Not sure I would email vance and hines. That map says for hiflow air filter.
any advice on the FP4. mine is a streetbob dyna 2016 103cui aftermarket open airfilter
Sorry not familiar with the FP4. Thank for checking out my video though.
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl awesome thanks!
So in order for it to learn completely or close to it will you have to make elevation changes just wondering how that works ? Thanks
Kevin Craig not sure but I know it has a pretty big effect
The fuel pac 3 isn't a speed density tuner it's a alpha N tuner,it only takes rpm and throttle position inputs and tunes off of them,it won't tune for altitude or load,
Did you manage to get all the blocks green on the map screen
No they say it’s not possible to get them all if you run for a few hours at all different speeds and rpm you get the important ones I believe. Thanks for watching and commenting good luck with your tune.
Great video!
Thanks for watching!! Love my fp3
Does the FP3 drain the battery when left plugged in all the time?
I do not think so I never had any problems.
No, the data port is unpowered unless the ignition is on
Quick question, I have a 2015 dyna low rider and with full stage 1 using an FP3. if you do multiple auto tune sessions the result will be combine all together ?
Its my belief that it will use them all until you hit finish .
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl super ez and informative video man. Much appreciated it. I will try to do my own auto tune
Just be prepared it may run crappy and want to stall in autotune. Its not bad when you are prepared for it. Thanks for watching.
Me cells didn’t do anything after a 40min ride. Do I need to keep the FP3 plugged in during the ride?
Fp3 needs to be plugged into the bike during autotune.
Dude where the hell are you? Hope you’re good. Let us know you’re ok!!!
All is good I moved. And rather quickly lol
When I start an auto tune, do I have to keep auto tune on all the time until I finish?
C hueyrun I believe but am not positive that you need to keep it on that map till you are done tuning. When ever I turned the bike off I applied values. When you feel like you have got enough time you hit the finish button.
Yea I think I did something wrong. When I tried to do an auto tune session on my 2016 road king it ran like absolute SHIT, felt like it was running on 1 cylinder and making about 5HP. Quickly went back to a unmodified map, the bike could hardly get out of its own way and didn't learn any cells after about 5 minutes.
My bike ran like crap while autotuning but yours sounds like it was really bad. My bike would spit and sputter and want to stall when taking off.
Man... you got 2 bad boys creeping on you 👀
Great video will try auto tune 👍🏼
It makes it easier when you are aware your bike runs terrible in autotune. Thanks for watching and commenting good luck with the tune.
After flashing the 1st session of auto tune did u go back to the same map like before and resumed auto tune?
Rom Ligno it saves the autotune session as its own map
Rom Ligno I don’t think you can leave the autotune session map till you hit finish anyway. Its been a while now. I may do an updated video in a couple of weeks now that I have been using it all summer
Was your boat the big one.
Only an 18’ nothing impressive lol
Love your videos. But I’m still scared to try the auto tune.
Understandable. You never want to ride a bike with poor performance in traffic. But if you do it just be careful and prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Thanks for watching and commenting
Im honestly just not tech savvy. So that’s my worry. But I wheelie the bike. An need a little me sack. If that makes any sense sir.
I sure do. I wish I could wheelie the bikes!!
If you pull the baffles then you have to because they won't allow maps to be put on it with them taking out.
Why do you not stop totally at stop sign?
I am a believer in full stops but on my motorcycle I try not to put my feet down more than I have to. I talked to a few officers and they told me most of the time they wouldn’t bother a motorcycle if they at least come close to stopping. Just my opinion for the most part I follow the rules and do reasonable speeds.
What phone mount do you use?
Rokform. I really like it for the bike but being an electrician the magnetic case picks up all kind of metal shavings on ghe job site. I would recommend it but find a way to keep the charge port covered if you are around alot of metal scraps.
What kind of phone mount do yiu use
Rokform I have a video on my channel channel about it and installing it.
Purchased a stage 3 kit for my 103 switchback. Already have the FP3. Would auto tune work with the new cam and other internals or would I just need to get a custom tune?
To be honest I do not know. You probably want to talk to a professional.
You will want to call Vance & Hines. They will give you a map for your specific set up and just download and go. They told me to run a couple tank through and call them back with any issues. Been raining since, so haven't been able to test.
Thanks for the answer.
if you were to have read the instructions you would have known that autotune turns off all of the cold start features of the fuel injection. You need to warm the bike up first if its a cold day.
My bike was already warm when I started.
Bro I had no idea FP3 can adjust the suspension!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Me neither lol

was it worth the money
Yes it was for me so I can run the hi flow air filter. I love to be able to see all the readings in the app also. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is your FP3 hooked up while you ride?

Yeh same size tank 3.3 gallons, I'm still in the break in period I know it Will get better as it beds in but seems a bit thirsty at the moment
If I converted correctly that seems very low. I would fill up and run another tank to confirm mileage
Tim Finning I do like that color also!!!
Tim Finning also make sure to adjust your shocks!! What a difference it made for me im around 205 and have mine set to 6 dots.
If you hit the finish button will you still be able to edit it the next day?
Finish ends that session I believe. You would have to start a new one

What does MAP stand for?
debra thane I don’t think it has an acronym.
Manifold Absolute Pressure. It’s used by the engines’ computer to detect engine load.
