Exactly, however we feel good and well rather than dumb. Although there is slight change in motivation when alone or with other runners. Anyways that slightest motivation change is lost aswell as soon as engaged in my workouts or run.
This was awesome Sarah. I felt a sense of pride in you doing this, especially when you said “doing this for the girls”, because what Florence did was not only truly magnificent, but revolutionary for female runners, and here you are today doing the exact same challenge! Thank you for paying homage to a great lady, you did brilliantly! 💪🏻
Finally got a chance to see this one. One of my bucket list runs, as a bridge construction engineer I love bridges and that's one of the most important bridges in the world. I promise I won't be attempting to break anyone's record.
I love how you always except these challages. You are always willing to try. You are an inspiration. Thank you for all you do. I love watching the running challenge. I get very inspired just by watching. You all give us viewers that shread of hope to keep trying
This was brilliant, and great presenting too! Fitting that the Palace of Westminster was covered in scaffolding in 1934 for Florence and in 2021 for you Sarah! (even if that means that sadly Big Ben isn’t chiming)
I’ll hazard a wild guess that Florence wasn’t carrying a selfie stick when she did her run! There’s also a difference in mindset between treating the run as a speeded up long distance run, as Sarah did, and did very well indeed, and what, I suspect, Florence did, which would have been an extended sprint.
I really think Sarah could take some time off by not having to carry the camera! I would very happy to watch a video without the POV camera to see her be able to run flat out.
Always amazed how you try the challenges while carrying a camera and talking at the same time. Great effort love your videos thank you for always brightening my day.
YAY!!! YIppie ki yay-that was fun to watch and you did great and you were holding something so it was a beautiful run on what looked like a beautiful cold day---Florence yes! Sarah Yahoooo🏃♀👍🌲
@@runningchannel sounds great and maybe backwards too-don t tell her i said that ,she might run across the ocean to calif and smack me haha it was fun to watch thanks guys and happy Christmas to ya all🏃♀🏃🏃♂
Congrats Sarah! That looked tough!! This was a great challenge. It was a typical fun TRC video, but with a chance to learn about running history, too! This would be a great series!
Very good. I would like to see The Running Channel attempt to run a mile in the quickest time possible at Ilfey Road in Oxford where Sir Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile for the first recorded time ever.
Ah, blue skies! Love the concept. Safe to say that Florence did not do it in under 40 seconds though That would be equivalent to 46 seconds for the 400 which is a lot faster than the world record.
If The Running Channel can get to Cheshire they should have a go at 'The Mow Cop Killer Mile' - one mile, 550 feet of climb. I don't think it's been run as a race for a few years but was quite an event in the 1980s/90s. Male record: 6:12 (Bashir Hussain, 1991); female record: 7:54 (Shireen Barbour, 1992).
I’d love to see TRC Team do a Marathon Relay Challenge (I.e 1km or 1mile per competitor and cycle through each person until you reach the end). See how close to Kipchoge you can get.
What shoes were you wearing? You would have done it fir sure if you wore your racing shoes! 😂 Good effort though and I learned some interesting running history. I’ll definitely try this next year - at midnight like someone else has said.
I wonder if TRC can do the The Great Court Run at Trinity College, Cambridge, which was re-created in the film Chariots of Fire. From the College's website, this run "involves attempting to run around Great Court within the length of time that it takes the College clock to strike the hour of twelve, including the preparatory chiming of the four quarters and the two sets of twelve." Maybe even try with a relay team?
Challenge:- Emil Zatopek was known for training with a gas mask. Run 400m with a mask. In the army running with a gas mask is normal but you think your choking for more air
2 min needed to become 40s... and she says "I think I should halve it and then -20s". No dear, you have to divide it by 3... In other words, run 3x faster! Good luck with that! :O
@@runningchannel both calculations are correct 😂 i just feel it's much more intuitive to think "I need to run at 3x speed" than "I need to run at 2x speed plus the speed to save 20 extra seconds to the time I would do if I already doubled my speed" 😜
It's incredibly unlikely that Ilott did the run in 40 seconds while running in heavy traffic. That's 20 miles per hour. If she did it in 40 seconds (the time between the first and tenth strikes), she outran most modern sprinters - male and female - while literally jumping over cars. She can't have started with the first hour strike. I've tried to find any specific reference to when she started in any of the original accounts and can't actually find an original account that states it explicitly. Reporters of the time would have known better than to use the phrase "12 chimes", so that phrase is certainly a modern error that has cropped up in the retelling. If she started when the "Westminster Quarters" (the chime tune that plays before the hour strikes) ended, she would have had another 13 seconds. (I pulled up a video of Big Ben chiming noon, and there are 13 seconds between the end of Westminster Quarters and the first hour strike.) This would bring her time to 53 seconds, or 15mph and still a whopping accomplishment. Well, 54 seconds if you count the bonus second given by the speed of sound delay. =]
"There's literally no one else around, I look so dumb" - Me every morning when I start my runs 😄
😂😂😂😂

What a great challenge and taught us a bit of history too 👍
Everyday is a school day here Wayne. 😂😂😂

Today I learned… What an amazing historical fact! Loved learning this and watching your attempt. “Doing it for the girls.” Indeed. Cheers!
I’ll hazard a wild guess that Florence wasn’t carrying a selfie stick when she did her run! she wouldnt have had the advantage of modern footwear and the roads looked insanely busy, hats off to both of them, great bit of history
I really think Sarah could take some time off by not having to carry the camera! I would very happy to watch a video without the POV camera to see her be able to run flat out.
I was thinking the same thing! She did an awesome job regardless 👏 ❤
I like these new history based challenge videos!!
Always amazed how you try the challenges while carrying a camera and talking at the same time. Great effort love your videos thank you for always brightening my day.
Glad you like the video, David - thanks for watching!
What a great story and awesome effort, Sarah!
How about the race around the quad at Cambridge from Chariots of Fire? Great effort Sarah, sprints are tough when you’re a distance runner.
YAY!!! YIppie ki yay-that was fun to watch and you did great and you were holding something so it was a beautiful run on what looked like a beautiful cold day---Florence yes! Sarah Yahoooo🏃♀👍🌲
Yeah, Sarah would have beaten her time if she was hands free. We'll have to get her to race it again, without the handheld.
@@runningchannel sounds great and maybe backwards too-don t tell her i said that ,she might run across the ocean to calif and smack me haha it was fun to watch thanks guys and happy Christmas to ya all🏃♀🏃🏃♂
That was a fun challenge to watch. Imagine the running shoes she had to wear back then as well.
ha! Probably plimsols. Imagine the times she could have posted with some Zoom Alphaflys?
Or lack of shoes.., maybe she ran barefoot
No sports bras back then either. What a star!
Awesome, loved learning about this!
Congrats Sarah! That looked tough!! This was a great challenge. It was a typical fun TRC video, but with a chance to learn about running history, too! This would be a great series!
Thanks Kelly, we loved making and researching this. More of these to come in 2022, we can't wait for you to see them!
Chapeau Sarah. And what a great back story.
What a cool story! Well done Sarah 🙌🏻
Have the team ever considered trying racewalking? Current mile world record held by UK’s Tom Bosworth is 5:31 😳
Such a good Idea! Loved it
Glad you liked it!!
That was a fun challenge to watch! 🙂
We had a lot of fun making it, but it was very very cold that day!
You guys crack me up with those funny challenges 😂😂😂!
Very good. I would like to see The Running Channel attempt to run a mile in the quickest time possible at Ilfey Road in Oxford where Sir Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile for the first recorded time ever.
That was fantastic! I had no idea about this.
Ah, blue skies! Love the concept.

Not having precise times is frustrating.
@@runningchannel I wonder if the MP who set the challenge mentioned it in the house? If so the result should be in Hansard.
Great effort Sarah. Florence’s time would take some beating even by a professional sprinter weaving through those pedestrians.
Absolutely
Once the chimes are reinstated I am definitely having a try. Although on a hot summer's day doing it at midnight would be just as effective!
Let us know how you get on John.
What a great story! What a feat to accomplish in that era.
Running at that pace with camera in hand... WoW hats off to you

Steps through history, well done.
this is awesome thank you for sharing your video.
What a cool story, I had never heard of her. Good effort to. 👍🏻
Yay Sarah, girl power!!
Love this challenge!!!
It was great to learn more about Florence too, she was ahead of her time.
Well done Sarah!🤗
Well done, Sarah!

Great shout, Patrick!
Wow! That was awesome!
I´m a totally, Sarah Fan 💗💗💗, Nice Run
Thanks Kim!
Amazing that the scaffolding has been there since 1934
It feels like it!
Good shot at it Sarah! Now sub 2 from Kichoge
Great try! You are still a champion in my book.
Thanks for watching David
That was amazing 👍
Great attempt! You could knock a good 20 seconds off if you weren't carrying that phone, though.

Cool Challenge!
Glad you enjoyed it Caleb.
What a unique challenge!
It was a lot of fun to make too.
Incredible.
Thanks for watching Dvir.
Fun!
Good evening❤
Good afternoon!
How about trying the college grounds dash that that done in Chariots of Fire ?
wow, 1.12 , doubt many subscribers on this channel would do much better, awesome! 😎
Those bells, those bells.
Is this a Strava segment..??

2mins halved is 1min, minus 20s is 40s? I think we can agree she had a lot of speed to make up!
@@runningchannel 2 mins is 120 seconds - 40 seconds is one third. Glad your maths ability is not equal to your running ability!
@@hairyairey thanks for the support 😂 after their comment I was starting to wonder if I was wrong myself 😜

Oof she was fast!! I reckon you could’ve gone faster without all the pedestrians!! Try again at night 🤣🤣
Sarah has already planned to try it again at 6am, with no handheld. She's determined to match Florence!
@@runningchannel That’s the spirit!!!! Go Sarah!
Is there a strava segment for it yet?
I'll have to check that Imre, but I reckon there is.
@@runningchannel If not it should be named the Florence Ilott sprint.

😆😆😆
350m in 40sec is a 22.8sec 200m, almost 2sec faster than the then-record in 1934. 22.8sec wasn't bested until 1965.
Where is Anna? I miss her !
Holding a camera probably slowed you 20 or 30 seconds girl!!! So I say you did it!
Sarah did bring that excuse to the table! We'll have to get her to do it without next time we're in the area.
@@runningchannel haha If Sarah ever needs an excuse coach I’m excellent!
As long as the bridge isn't falling down.
I don't know, maybe the threat of falling into the river would have made Sarah run faster?
@@runningchannel They mean London Bridge, not Westminster. Which incidentally if you walk underneath on the south side it sometimes plays that tune!
Great effort but London is way too busy these days.
Such a good idea! Who else can try this and make it a whole competition?
There is a Strava segment, so we'll see who can beat it!
Fellas, I don't think Florence did 350m in 40 seconds
I’m amazed Sarah couldn’t fit a this is disgusting in :-). Good effort!
This absolutely needs to be an annual challenge every womens day, or the nearest bank holiday...logistics aside
just call it speed work and not a sprint, life.
Good thinking Kevin!
You were a bit hampered by running with a camera, talking, and dodging round pedestrians!
Тогда думаю, что это было даже опасно, бегать женщине, да ещё раздетой, неравенство тогда было огромным и женщинам многое запрещалось.
Good try Sarah...think flo should have been required to carry out a post drug test after that time..LOL
Ha! I imagine the list of ban substances from back in those days was quite something!
@@runningchannel 😁 What they got away with in those times..
FIRST😄
🥇
I think you could take thirty seconds off your time for carrying a GoPro and talking while racing. 😁
Get Tom Scott on the case!
Nice try Sarah!
This seems sooooo much fun ☺🥺 I suppose it be easier to try at night 🌉
