A good programme, or at least a snapshot of what olympians put themselves through! I'd just add that as a casual runner if you do start to feel unexpected pain, don't just try and run through it as you might be doing some serious damage!
It reminds me of Steve Cram. Apparently one day he decided he didn't want to run competitively any more and just stopped! He never officially retired either. He lost the motivation. So enjoy it while you have it. Plus, I think Sarah is awesome and definitely not average.
Loved these videos. But really feel we should do a whip-round to buy Sarah some lights and/or reflective kit. I was genuinely worried that she was running in the dark with ear buds, without lights
Sarah is an incredible addition to TRC team! What an inspiration and how refreshing is her honesty? Loved it! Her insight truly touched me and motivates me! To the entire TRC team: your content keeps getting better and better!! Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you so much Marie! From the whole team, this really means so much to us, so thank you for sharing this 😊. Keep watching - we've got much more coming your way!
As I said after part one: very proud of you. Although the “challenge” was connected to your work, and in 20 years you may be doing some other kind of work, this one week will stay with you forever and always remind you that you can do hard things even if you have limited experience with those things. That is a great life lesson!
I'd be interested to know how this effects Sarah's running performance in the future - when she can stand to put her trainers on again! I hope she sees some return for her hard work!. Well done for taking on such a tough challenge!
Thanks for watching Sharron! Sarah says her paces have definitely got quicker after the training which she says is partly physical and partly just having that mental boost that she can do it! 😊
Sarah and Anna are such inspirational athletes! Seeing how ye cope with the ups and downs like real human beings with a great sense of humour keeps me going. Keep up the amazing work ladies, I'm sure I'm not the only weepy-tired-jaffa-cake-eating runner who looks up to ye!
I appreciate the elite runner presenters, but as an average runner myself, I understand Sarah much better. Very interesting, motivating, and inspirational couple of videos for casual runner like me. Great job, Sarah!
You maintained all this training while still smiling so beautifully and making me(and I'm sure many others)want to lace up and GO(and I've already had a 90 minute training run today😂)!
Loved these two episodes. It really shows how much effort is required at top levels. And i think Sarah secretly enjoyed it. I remember reading somewhere about the training for an olympic marathon and it was daft!!! I think Sarah would require a psychologist and a physio to get through that!
Amazing Job. Going from running to 2-4 days a week to an intense 100KM wee is so impressive. I'm surprised at the amount of longer runs in the plan. I imagined there would be more fast track miles.
Great work! Given that you were running 3 times per week before this, and assuming that meant your usual mileage per week was 20-25 miles, I was stunned that you managed to jump all at once to 60 miles without getting injured. I would have been crawling by day three! But well done!
Well done Sarah! I'm doing an ultramarathon plan at the minute and so I kind of thought 'that looks easy' at the start, but it wasn't...for me the real killer is when you realise you have to get up early/try to squish in your training sessions around work, that's when you start to get really tired. Great video!
We all have that kind of experience when we all feel like its hard to get off your bed because mostly we dont want to be disturbed. It's all about discipline and positive mindset. Get up and run. Running is very beneficial to our health
This video made me even more excited to get back out there (it's my last week of injury recovery exercise but I wasn't allowed to run at all for 6months!!!).
It would be great to know how much that amount training improved (or otherwise) Sarah's race performance. Great videos and Sarah is a natural in front of the camera.
Sale, i think it's the most important thing! Yeah, we get this regime is incredibly hard to maintain, even if you are a trained athlete who do this for a job, but we didn't get how far one can boost it's performance with 7 hard days of training. Which is pretty interesting. And there is another side of this: This was a 7 days of torture for only 2 videos. There are a lot more to talk about it and get out of this experiment than 2 videos.
Loved the idea; and well done for completing the challenge successfully! I was surprised at how little (non-running) core and upper body work was done during the week. I would’ve expected more weight training and gym sessions...
Thanks Vinay for watching and that's a good point, but gyms are currently closed here in the UK - so it's possible we would have included these sessions if we had access to a gym - hope this helps 😊
Another great video series, thanks! Brilliant effort Sarah 😊, just shows how much running is not just physical, it's that mental battle of forcing yourself to get out the front door some days. Definitely would love to see a 10k or half marathon challenge next.
Well done Sarah excellent effort. I currently run 6 days most weeks but the thought of running double days sounds exhausting. I thought Sarah was very impressive in front of the camera.
I think you've done a good job with the challenge. Honestly, any lack of motivation you've experienced comes from too much too soon. When I saw the schedule, it mimics my current training schedule except I leave one day where my recovery is a hike/walk. All else is pretty close, but I got there by increasing over 4 years from no running at all. The series really made me appreciate progressive overload.
Well done, huge effort Sarah. I did an SLR equivalent to yours in the video today from fresh and found it hard, can’t imagine tackling it after 6 days on your feet!
@@runningchannel i would like to see all of you guys from the Running channel doing a Backyard ultra, who's gonna be the last man (or woman) standing? ;)
Well done Sarah! That one week you did reminded me of the training camp I did with my club in 2019. It was just as tough. That is why I know what it means to go through all that training. So I respect what you did even more.
I want to know the stats for the week - how far did you run in total? Did you lose any weight? How much extra food did you eat? How many different outfits did you go through? Etc.
Well done 👏. Maybe next time you do something like this is to see how it affects the 1500 meter time? Also would be good to see an old style training session compared to modern style. Maybe this has been covered!!
I thought I’d have to wait longer for part 2...nice surprise☺️. Well done Sarah! You should be so proud to have done this challenge!! That beaming smile when you were finished...I felt that☺️🥰
Dang watching this made me feel old. I kept on thinking come on you got this kid. Good job, this is one of your best videos yet. Looking forward to more.
Brilliant job. Well done. I'm happy with 100km a month, never mind a week. A couple of questions: How long did it take to build up to the point where you were ready for the challenge and has it made a difference to your running since?
Well done Sarah , 👏🏻👏🏻great to see how an average runner felt trying a professional athletes training programme . Mind you I would have chucked it after day 2!🙈🙈
The reaction to rest day was priceless. It took me back in time when my wrestling coach announced at the end of practice on Christmas eve 30 some years ago. "See you tomorrow gentlemen" But coach it's Christmas day tomorrow. He answered with a rhetorical question. "Do you want to be a champion?"
Thanks for watching Raymond! The darkness of her night runs is a bit misleading as the GoPro made the footage seem much darker than it actually was. We're all about safety whilst running here at the Channel, but thanks so much for mentioning this 😊

The long run part of the video made me want to do 90 minute long runs again 😁
Awesome video!
A good programme, or at least a snapshot of what olympians put themselves through! I'd just add that as a casual runner if you do start to feel unexpected pain, don't just try and run through it as you might be doing some serious damage!
Great definition of a rest day!

Awesome work Sarah, I think I might take on this challenge in honour of our Olympians 🙌
Sarah's facial expression was so funny when she read the second text regarding the 'rest day'. Well done getting through this Sarah.
Thanks so much Phil 😊

Well done on the training 💪💪💪
Why not run a 1500m now that you have done the training! The racing is the fun part :)
That's a great idea Leon! Thanks so much for watching 😊
