Keep up the great training 💪 for long runs, I definitely load up on several podcasts, but I take a break between each of them just to listen to my feet hit the ground. Each running surface has a different sound, and I enjoy hearing my feet taking such good care of me :-)

    You’re a legend Sarah! Why don’t you just set your intervals up on your garmim? Just go into run and quick press left middle button then select intervals and you can just set it up..works great and counts then for you and the duration/pace etc 👍

      @dtrjones 3 года назад

      Yeah, a word of caution here. I've followed my Garmin on short sprint runs I do on-road and ended up with a muscle strain because I pushed off awkwardly or had to make a sudden turn to avoid hitting something in the way. For me just finding a park fits the bill best and doing consistent loops in the park is a great way to measure progress more accurately.

    • @jimc5000
      @jimc5000 3 года назад +2

      yeah I totally agree with this...no doubt best place of all for the intervals is the track, I'm quite lucky in that living right out in the sticks there are country roads that 99% of the time there is nothing on so belting out the 400/800''s is always OK...just getting a treadmill sorted actually for the winter so I can really focus on the intervals whatever the weather and with no danger...have a lot of misgivings about moving to some treadmill work after a year and a half on the trails and roads but hey Mo Farah reckons its the way to go and who I am to argue with that legend :)

    My favorite marathon kit has my first name on it. Sometimes it’s only in small print on the Bib, but with big letters on my marathon singlets everyone along the course knows what my name is. And it helps! Complete strangers cheering me on: go Kim! Looking strong Kim! Yayyyy Kim! They probably don’t even realize how helpful that is in the second part of the race. I’d love to enter for the Mizuno kit, could use something new now that I’m the not so proud owner of a few extra lockdown pounds. 😜 Working on it, but boy, some of my tights and shirts are really tight atm. 😩

I've done 22 Marathons so for me 80 minutes isn't a daunting prospect, but there was a time when I found running for 20 minutes hard and running for 80 minutes would have been unthinkable, even with perfect fuelling, because my base fitness was too low. Almost everyone can progress from where I was then to where I am now, but it is not an easy process and certainly not a quick one either.

That also brings me to my favorite piece of kit: my garmin FR245 music. I can map out my runs on garmin connect, or let garmin surprise me with an automatically generated course and then just follow the breadcrumb map on the watch, while tracking my run and listening to some music, or pause and just mindfully enjoying the moment and surroundings. Great video. I'm training for my first half marathon in Oct. My first ever and best kit i owe is hoka mach 4! My tip is run with someone for one of your training days and ask them to check the pace and interval times. It makes it a lot less stressful and easier to push each other mentally.

    As someone that ran a marathon last sunday (also my first one) it's like I'm watching my self from a few weeks ago. It's really relateble and you're doing great. I know you are going to cruch it in Amsterdam. To get through the long runs, I try to get a buddy. It's not always possible to get someone to go the whole run so most of the time I'll start alone for the first 15-20 mins than I have someone join me for the rest and if it is a really long run I'll had to run the last miles also alone but by breaking the run down in smaller parts I find that the time goes by so much faster.

    Favourite running kit for me are my Nike Pegasus 37 shoes. I completely agree with you Sarah about the importance of having confidence in your kit. I feel that my shoes can go through any terrain and are comfy for my long runs and even handle some cross country routes well. I've clocked nearly 600km in them now and I will frankly be sad to replace them as they have been fantastic

    Favorite running kit item is racing bib magnets. It was a birthday gift in 2019. I wasn’t able to use them until May 2021. Beats having to pin holes on your favorite running shirt. I have tried podcasts and can’t listen to episodes very long. I have several running playlists with various tempos to break up my runs. Currently training for my first half marathon in October.

    Well done Sarah! So excited to follow your journey :) My favourite piece of running equipment is definitely a buff, you need to hear me out for this one. Not only is the buff great for keeping the neck warm, but has so many other uses that I have discovered over the years! I used it as a mask when the pandemic was particularly bad here in Aus when I was out running, you can also put ice in there to keep you cool during summer runs, as a headband to keep flyaway hairs out of your eyes and as a sweatband on the wrist! If you're doing multi-day runs or camping overnight you can use it as an eye mask. The most recent discovery I made is that you can use one as a crude water filter when you're trail running!! just fill it up and then squeeze into the water bottle. I swear you'll never regret taking a buff with you on a run! (I've also used it as a hand warmer when my gloves got wet when out hiking).

    You and Anna make marathon training seem so achievable! I've picked a BHAG which I have my sights set on for my birthday present to myself in six months time, and plan to follow your footsteps and use this training plan to set myself up for success. Not sure what I should do for my mental game on the long runs either, I'll have to keep watching you for more ideas! My favourite piece of my kit is body glide! As someone who is prone to chafing on my thighs it's been a real game changer!

    Sarah, you are killing it! I just started training for an October half marathon with a friend..this will be our 3rd training cycle together this year. Having a buddy to get through the hard days with is great! It's a lot harder to skip a session when you've got somebody counting on you to be there! I use to exclusively train alone, but I've been having so much more fun with a running partner. Also really helpful when one of us falls into a negative headspace and we can talk each other up and support each other through it!
