I don’t know a lot about efi or ecu but the old Detroit diesels had and ecu. I think it was ddec II(2). Just to let you know these engines in v configuration have 2 firing orders one for the right bank and one for the left the last system may be doable with two ecu’s one for the right bank and one for the left then you won’t have to overdrive the system. Idk just food for thought 🤯👍👍👍
As someone who is an engineer and has built turbo two strokes before ( yamaha banshee and ski doo 800) i have serious doubts that you'll get this to work. I think you should abandon the turbo all together, run a simple stand alone ignition by using pvl parts or msd stuff. Also the whole efi thing as you have constructed it is very questionable as well. Maybe some good old motorcycle carbs would be a better route. I do appreciate your enthusiasm and wish you the very best with this project though !
I mentioned this a couple of videos back to an extent. Even if he gets this LS system to work, hes going to hve issuse with the turbo most likely blowing the spark out.
It seems like a turbo on a reed valve 2 stroke might be problem, especially with trying to tune fuel injection. There's a straight path to the exhaust at bdc, so it seems like it would get inconsistent mixture.
@@jazzathoth the real problem is if you build enough pressure to actually make power you have all kinds of crankcase pressure issues . Lots of blown out crank seals and gaskets and bleed over between cylinders. I found that at 7psi of boost I could make better more reliable and consistent power just modifying the motors with porting, pipes, compression and ignition timing. I had to run 15 psi to make it worthwhile running boost and at that point you're glueing in all the seals , oringing the cases and putting fire rings in the heads. Even with all that the motors wouldn't stay together that long ( fun while they lasted though ).
Depending on what I ecu it is, some of them are wasted spark so it actually has spark every 360 of crank rotation so you wouldn't have to gear it for the trigger.
I commented a book while you were brainstorming and had to delet it because of your endjnf comments. I fully agree, use a megasquirt based EMS, they can be used on almost any internal combustion engine made. For ignition, i got an idea. Make a custom crank mounted trigger wheel. 8 even spaced teeth, with perhaps a missing tooth to denote TDC. Use a simple standalone ignition system (such as a MSD box that uses a crank trigger) that has a way to adjust timing and cranking advance. Set it up at first so it works like a distributor with a mechanical advance. Use the carbs to get it running, get timjng dialed in, then start on the efi. If you do one at a time the tuning will be a lot easier. I did this with a Datsun 280z . Megasquirt 2 , used stock wiring harness, kept ignition stock till i got the fuelling good to go.
Am I the guy you mentioned about commenting. I’ve replied on a couple of these videos about that engine having a flat plane (180 degree crank). It won’t work with an ls computer no matter what. Ignition timing would be all wrong, not talking spark advance either. Injection timing wouldn’t be right in sequential mode. Batch might work if you could change that in your tuning software but I doubt any let you. No need to go from full sequential to batch so they aren’t gonna offer that in HpTuners or whichever one you planned on using. Pistons are gonna be in wrong place compared to conventional v8 cross plane crank like an LS. I told you to get a microsquirt from diy autotune and I even volunteered to help set it up in one of my reply’s. I’ll build the harness if buys the ecu and flying lead unterminated harness. They are under $400. Speediuno is even cheaper but your not ready to build an ecu from scratch, no offense meant! But it requires soldering surface mount components to boards and a lot more that I can tell you don’t have the experience in and I don’t have the time for that myself. I even volunteered mill and lathe work but u dont answer my comments. I just want to help. I never had anyone real knowledgeable to help me when I was doing this stuff at your age and I would like to have a part in the build , always have wanted to build an evinrude/Johnson 2stroke v8 ever since finding out they existed and seeing the one on in the RUclips video with expansion chambers going everywhere (can’t remember the name but it was in a little black primered old school hot rod car IIRC! Just reply if you see this bro, no body’s gonna blow you any shit for getting a little help with this one. This one (this build) is prolly over a large percentage of your viewers heads too so there’s no shame in it!
I think your ideas are great. I think it would have been less complicated to use original ignition system. But where is the fun in that. Sometimes you dont need to reinvent the wheel. Others thats half the fun.
I mentioned that in one of the first couple videos, also if the carburetors were the diaphragm type they would run in any position. So only thing he really needed was the custom exhaust and cooling system. Maybe he can get everything back original in which it was made to make the most possible power.
Talking about engine managment systems, most modern standalones probably will adapt to a 2 stroke. If I remember correctly Microsquirt have a max of 4 ignition outputs, meaning you would need to run wasted spark. I think that should be ok on a 2 stroke. Microsquirt has succesfully been used on 2 strokes before at least, but a v8 I think could be a first🙂 Personally I would probably use a MS3 pro because of the extra IOs, onboard logging and better support for a MAF if needed. A MAF may not be needed for your engine because it has no expansion chambers, but for 2 strokes with expansion chambers at least I have heard tuning with a MAF is easier than Speed Density. Any way you want at least 1 EGT, and the possiblety to logg it to the ECU data. I think I have mentioned it before that a O2 sensor most likely will not work for tuning a 2 stroke. Someone mentioned in a comment to the last vidoe that you have removed the reed valves? That's the intake valves on the engine. I and many other people watching want you to make this engine work😊
I really don't know much about these two strokes but it sounds like carbs are the way to go and i definitely agree scratch the turbo idea go for tuning the exhaust but i would just try and get the thing to run first of all and i also agree the factory stuff would have been the easiest way to get er done one thing i do know tuning and even just getting my rc car engines to run is difficult i cant even imagine trying to get this thing to run but im invested now so good luck and cant wait to see 😶🌫️ what happens next time
Consider a 2001 express van tune (P01 ECU). Buy or duplicate a holley dual sync distributor, but run it at crank speed, then tune around it (since all RPM values will report as double what they really are. Maybe a modded Optispark distributor. Or maybe get a Microsquirt or Speeduino.
For all the effort you put in to build all that ignition, why didnt you just stick with the factory ignition, its simple, its compact and its designed to run with it
Look into a standalone ecu system. I don’t know if it would work, but a company called ACES offers a holley style ecu at half the prices. It’s a smaller company and might be willing to help you out with this project.
Swap out the crank gear for another cam gear so it spins 1-1 and use one of them for cam signal. And adjust the wiring for the firing diagram. Simple fix.
I think that a nice strong bell housing and adaper plate is the No.1 priority for this project. No.2 i would junk the LS ecu and get a mega squirt wired up instead. It could work with the turbo installed, but it's enough of a challenge to get it to run in a car, with a transmission and cooling system as it is. I do hope the guy doesn't give up on it, but it needs a decent solid car to go into and something with a big engine bay too.
Man I'm really curious to see how this turns out I've got an old Mercury cosworth 3.4 Black Max it's a V6 it's fucking huge and I would love to do the same thing maybe without the turbo I've always been curious about putting one of these big two strokes in a car. If I could figure it out..... The next step would be big ass tuned expansion chambers
I admire what you are attempting to do but you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble by using the original harness and electronics then change over once you get it running well. just sayn.
hey you can use a motorcycle carb with a DRAW THROUGH turbo set up just by putting a carbon seal in the turbo then for the ignition u can use 4. 4 cylinder coils and 4 pick ups coils then just find which cylinder is down and which cylinder is up for the firing order and wire everything together and it will run with a lot of power dynatek ignition systems will help you out with the coils and pick ups and the wires you will need it might need a little bit of modifying but itll work once its all said n done
Is the crank shaft a flat plane or 90 degree crank? The LS is timed for a 90 degree crank. Doubling the trigger speed will make spark timing difficult to program if the crank is a 90 degree crank. Otherwise it will not work at all.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, may as well see it through for the heck,of it. I do tfwwlmlikw your going need to do some kind of aftermarket ECU. I think Haltech can do two stroke stuff but I’d be lying if I said I knew anything about any of this. Pretty cool regardless! Good luck, wish you the best!
I don't know anything about these engines, but if it is a cross plane crank, the LS computer will work, if it is flat plane, you will need something like a megasquirt.
The LS computer will work, yes, however it was designated for a 4 stroke engine. this being a 2 stroke needs to have the spark plugs firing every time a piston is approaching TDC... 4 stroke = 720° between ignition events and 2 stroke = 360°. this means the crank trigger wheel and jackshaft & bearings will need to be rotating at twice the speed of the engine crankshaft OR he could make a custom wheel with twice the amount of teeth and missing tooth spots 180° apart from each other and just feed the cam sensor engine rpm. This of course creates a tach signal of 2x the actual engine speed and therefore will need to have rev limiter disabled via HP tuners, etc. Also, if there is a difference in firing order sequence, he would just need rearrange injector and spark output leads, which isnt hard to figure that part out. All you have to do to give yourself a visual representation is to jot down the chevy firing order and then your new firing order under it and draw an arrow down from each number to the new cylinder number. You quite can reassign an LS or any basic v8 computer to another v8 so long as certain criteria are met. If you really wanted to, you could acquire a 4 banger and put a v8 computer on it. Respectively, if you really wanted to pull tricks out of the bag, you can make a v12 run off a v6 computer, you just need to know how to correlate all of the signals so that the computer sees the correct imputs and gives the proper outputs and then how to feed those to the new engine. I'm about to get snotty and put my microsquirt and 5.0 injectors leftover from my 96 ranger build and a turbo on my lawnmower... the neighbors kicked a hornets nest and they don't know it yet 😂
You could contact Holley tell them you are on RUclips and what engine you want to adapt to their efi system. I bet they would at least discount the product if not send you one to show how adaptive their system is. I watched a guy put one on a Ferrari

Read into wasted spark! You have one coil for 2 cylinders and it fires it on both cylinders at the same time. On a modern 4 stroke, coil on plug setups fires once per 720 degrees, only on power stroke. With wasted spark, you fire the coil on power and exhaust stroke. Los turbos en los motores de 2tiempos no van, detroit usa compresores
Please drop the turbo, you're going to bash your head trying to get a 2 stroke to run well with one.
In a word, yes 😂 I’m not a two stroke guy but I don’t think the engineering is safe and sound on this set up
Absolutely dump it cuz even if you got to work everything's going to fly apart
microsquirt, wastespark.
You should go stand alone. Since two stroke outboards are EFI by and large there should be any issues. Talk to Fuel Tech
they are not.
this stuff is just too advanced for you start smaller and you won't ruin your passion for building. take the advice now
YOU CANT TURBO A 2 STROKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😮😮😮😊😊,,,😅😅😅😅
Find another project altogether. Not trying to be mean but you are in for a big letdown. It's just a big list of bad, dangerous ideas...
Omg wow 15 mins of nothing really
Honestly, I recommend Hyabusa individual throttle bodies. Easier to tune and probably a lot better longterm
