I was hynotized years ago to quit smoking. The doctor was really sick with a cold at the time and he was about 85 years old. I didn't think there was any chance it would work. He practically fell asleep before I did. LOL Anyway, I left there and have never thought about smoking ever again. Even on the worst days it never occurs to me to light up. That was 15 years ago.

The test itself was incredible to watch, but that last part where they chat about how it's all happening in the brain was fascinating. "You were complying with the instruction, but also showing that you can really reorganize your interception of your arm." It's like the instructions allow the brain to let go of 'ownership' of the arm while still feeling that it's attached to the body!

That was delightful! My uncle was an engineer who also had a great interest in hypnosis and hypnotized me a few times as a child (10-12.) I remember one session, he said he had a long piece of string and was tying one end around my left wrist and that there was a deflated balloon at the other end of the string. And that with each inhale I took the balloon would fill and the air within the balloon would react like helium and causing the balloon and subsequently my hand to raise. Higher and higher with each breath. Until my arm was raised straight over head. I remember the session ending and my folks were so tickled by the whole experience and I was amazed by it.
That’s such a beautiful core memory.
It was wonderful to observe the practice in this session. Thank you, both.

@hubermanLabclips. First question about hypnosis. Can this be a treatment for mental distress? i.e. I have a friend who is a pacifist to the point of not being able to be around anyone who challenges him in anyway. He says he is 'broken' and runs away. He is 65. He also sees this as totally normal, but knows that has impacted his romantic relationships. If you try to address what he means by broken, it becomes worse. So although he says he wants to talk, he really wants to justify and tell the other person why they are bad. A viscious circle. Two questions: 1. Rather than years of therapy, can hypnosis be used to change the perception of broken into something like say: might make him laugh when he says it? If so, 2. Where does one find a reputable hypnotist in their local area?

I roll rarely as the people I know are too aggressive and that's okay I've had a good time I don't need to hurt myself. And I can protect myself just with the look on my face, my demeanor and if a fight breaks out I'm calm and feel capable still - Train with people that just want to roll at an equal pace and if they're not on the same page as you just don't do it.

Although this session was intended just as a demonstration, notice that Dr. Huberman's unconscious took the opportunity offered by hypnosis to deal with his pain, for which no suggestion had been given. I've seen similar things happen many times, showing that the hypnotist is merely a facilitator of the phenomenon, not necessarily the director. Good video.

I have done hypnosis (primarily for stress), with a few different hypnotherapists. It seemed to help a bit (like a lot of things, its no miracle cure). I got a tape recording/MP3 of the session, but whatever reason I never listened to it. You can watch a variety of RUclips videos that have a hypnosis script for a variety of things (to help sleep better, etc.), just to see if it helps.

Am I out of hypnosis yet? Lol! That was great! Thanks for sharing, Dr. Huberman! A new technique I hadnt witnessed before. Still not sure what it has to do with your back pain but I hope you reached your therapy goal! ...and I know what you mean by the crooked shoulders thing. I've got that, too. Take care of you. Thanks for everything you do! My family appreciates you more than words can say! 💖🙏🏼😊

Another interesting Monday thanks to you. I must confess that after watching most of your videos I feel a change for the better in me, in understanding the brain activity and using the tools you have shared with us on each and every topic. I really liked the topic of the interview today which opened a window for me to understand myself and gave me tools to deal with emotions and events I am experiencing in the present and past. I have a request . I am an artist, my whole life is a sequence of multidisciplinary creation. It seems to me that I am in meditation at the time of creation. Things happen without my prior planning. Everything is flowing and I am in a tremendous awakening. The topic of the "Third eye" mentioned today and in another interview, is very intriguing to me. Does it exist in the brain? Or just a definition for inner vision?
I look forward to next Monday in another interesting topic.
    Thanks

It’s the pineal gland inside your brain that resembles an eye. Apparently, when this is stimulated, it opens your mind to creativity, the universe, etc. It’s supposed to be a connection to the divine.

I'm an early adopter (i guess) of the Android Reveri app, which contains only short hypnosis tracks - I guess the new version will have long as well - and I can confirm the voice is definitely a trigger. Immediately recognised it.
