I’ll never understand all the XD hate. Even when respectable guys try and explain the hate, it doesn’t make any sense at all. Who hates affordable, rugged, well-made firearms? I really like the Glock 43, Sig 365, Shield, Sig 938, Glock 19, CZ PO1, and Springfield EMP and carry guns. I like them all quite a bit and would trust my life to any of them any day. But I feel the same way about the XDs. They’re just good guns. You’re going to give me a hammer forged/ melonited barrel and melonited slide at that price? Amazing. And I’ll never forget when my brother in law bought one when they first came out in a .45. I was super skeptical about how it would shoot. But I was amazed when I pulled the trigger. Amazed at the accuracy and how soft it shot for such a short barrel. And this goes to the entire XD line. What is the big deal? The backstrap safety? Seriously guys. Just grip the damn gun properly. “Well yeah, but what if I’m in a self defense situation and I have to do a triple axel backflip 720 spin combat roll and my hand slips? Hm?!?!?” I mean, really guys? You have to hold that thing like halfway down the grip to not engage that safety. And most of you would have a heart attack from the exercise if you simply had to squat to take cover (me included). Relax. It’s a good gun at a good price. You don’t have to buy it. But don’t try and tell other people they shouldn’t.
Seriously, people are waaay too butthurt about the backstrap safety. They seriously act like they're going to be in a gun fight every minute of their life. Safety's always good to have, what if you accidentally drop your gun while it's loaded? "Well that's never going to happen to me" well shit happens.
"Triple axel backflip 720 spin combat roll"...is Hilarious!!!!. I agree some folk get carried away with this. Nobody complains about 1911 grip safety. I love Glocks & had 4 of them, but I sold my G23 for a regular XD40 Service model. I switched bcz that G23 beat up my hand real good shooting 180gr 40s during qual. The XD was no problem with same ammo, trigger felt better & more room in trigger guard (Glocks trigger guard too small for big hands, HK, XD & Sig's all bigger).
Own a xd9 myself. These are honestly VERY good pistols!! Just as reliable as glock but with a better feel, features, and are also easier to point naturally.
I'm an XD guy and they are accurate and reliable pistols. A little heavier than some of their competitors but very concealable and comfortable to carry. I like the grip safety too...you can release it and put your thumb on the rear of the slide when re-holstering so you don't shoot off the family jewels if you appendix carry.
A little late to your comment, but I was actually wondering about whether you could do just that. With a hammer-fired pistol, it's common for people to train to put their thumb on the back to feel/prevent the hammer from moving back if the trigger gets snagged. It seemed to me that doing so with one of these would release the grip safety, but I didn't have one to try it out on. Thanks for confirming that you can.
My Springfield has always been 100% reliable and comfortable to use. I like the single stack compact XDs Mod 2 product. I'm not sure I would give up my Mod 2 double stack. Good review James.
I was one of the early adopters when the Springfield XDS 45acp came out. It would not fire with extended magazine inserted. But had no problem firing with the short magazine. Also my XDS was involved with a recall to fix an issue with the gun going off without any user input. It had failure to feed problems and i would never trust my life with it. When the XDS Mod2 came out i tried it again hoping that these issues were fixed. And lucky for me all these previous issues has been solved. I have fired more than 2550 rounds without any malfunctions. I love this gun and carry it everyday. I learned the hard way...,.never be a beta tester for a new platform. Let them work the kinks out and get the second generation.
@@Lovenlife139 Springfield Armory recall my handgun and repaired it at no cost to me. Look it up many owners were affected. I am still a Springfield fan, love their designs. But reliability wise no gun manufacturer is perfect in that regard. Just letting people know my experiances and maby that will help someone else who owns that gun.
I owned an XDS M2. Loved it very reliable. The XDS line was actually a separate company out of Croatia. All the Croatian police, military, and special ops carry them. They are all made there. Springfield bought them to diversify from the 1911 market only. The gun is very reliable, easy to shoot, you don’t notice the grip safety so it’s a non issue for me. The front sight is very easy to pick up quickly when drawing and follow up shots. The gun , in my opinion, is the best gun for concealed carry. It disappears on your body and has excellent reliability. Extra mags are cheap, holsters are so easy to find since 5hey fit in Glock holsters, shield, walther, etc etc. The extra round from its close competitors is a plus. It. Can handle +p without being to snappy. Love it, love it, love it, and miss it!
James, Thank you very much for actually showing a side-by-side comparison of the differences, it helps. I love the lower bore axis, am a big fan of the loaded chamber indicator, bigger beaver tail, the undercut, better grip, I have always loved their fiber optic front sights. The barrel improvements and standoff tidbit are interesting. I have a LOT more faith in this than I would have in a Sig 365 right now, no big surprise there.
Just saw them today (10-20-2019) at a retailer (brick and mortar) for $399.99 with the 5 mags, bag, and the Amerigo front sight with the blacked out rear.
Just bought one yesterday... Price was $439.99+ tax..... BUT I got it on the GEAR UP promotion... Includes Pistol, 5 Magazines, a holster, a dual extra mag pouch, a range bag, and a hard case. I am more than happy with it. Excellent firearm, amazing promotion... WELL DONE SPRINGFIELD!!!
I really wish people would shut up about the springfield hate honestly. I'm not a huge fan but its beyond overdramatized by now. Yes they messed up, yes some outrage was warranted. Since then they have payed for it, theyve apologized, theyve changed their ways and they've been one of the most outspoken supporters of the 2nd Amendment. Let it go. If you dont like them, dont buy them and certainly dont watch vids about them. It's almost as annoying as the glock haters and so on out there now. The XD line is a solid option for folks who want them. Daniel defense made anti 2a political moves and you dont hear a peep about that? Glocks done it, rock river was involved in the same stuff springfield was....not a peep. The pro gun community needs to quit dividing itself, all these actors are trying to act edgy and seem in the know all the time and our community is becoming secular. That makes it easy for folks that want us to have NO guns to take them away. Like what you like and keep moving, and for sure quit bitching. Thanks TFB for a good look at the handgun and good contact as always!
Puddin127 - I agree 100 percent- I knew about Bill Ruger and Smith and Wesson but I wasn’t aware Glock did it to, I’ve always heard Glock was a big supporter and donated lots of cash to help support the 2nd amendment.
6 years later and I have the optics ready version. Love this gun. Was going to go with a 43 for concealability but glad I ended up with this. Plus I can have 8 rounds and a spare 9 rounder on me for 17. Opposed to 13 with the 43. Yes sir. If you’re looking for a 43 sized gun in 2024 this is it.
@@5jjt I love it. I purposefully wanted a little bit heavier gun to absorb some recoil. It's not heavy by any means, but if you compare the weight of it against other 9mm pistols its size you'll see it's a few oz heavier. The size is just right too. It's just an overall well made gun. I needed to purchase a loading assister though because it's pretty heard to get the rounds loaded by hand without it. Possible of course, but just a little hard because the spring in the magazine is pretty stiff. Otherwise I can't think of anything bad to say about it. Very pleased with my purchase.
I did a fairly detailed prioritization of features of Glock, Smith Shield and Springfield XDS when I was in the market for an EDC gun. The Glock was culled rather quickly due to the grip angle. I wanted the Shield to come out on top, but mostly because I like the trigger a little better and it's a fine looking gun. However, in the end it was the XDS that checked all the boxes for me. Performance, reliability, feel, features and the generous accessory package were all there so I bought one in .40 cal. I liked it so much I went back and bought a second one in 9MM. I have large hands and the XDS fits comfortably. It's easy to carry, shoots great and is easy to take down. My only regret is that I haven't bought a 45 to complete the set. IMO, the XDS is a very underrated gun.
I have Sigs, HK’s and the XD9 Mod2. I carry the Mod2 and I love it! They messed up, so what?!? He who is free from sin cast the first stone.... when it comes to reliability and great safety performance, the XD9 Mod2 is a great choice, for me that is! Obviously my Sig’s and HK’s are extremely good as well, but don’t undercut the performance of the gun for the BS the high holes from Springfield did!
Picked mine up a month ago, never owned a springfield armory. Fired 200 rounds out of it without failer. It's my new favorite ccw because of its low profile slim width, good safety features, and very effective with the holosun red dot mounted on!
This gun, with a Vedder Pocket Holster, is super easy and slick to carry. I bought one for 550, with an optic and an optic cut. So it has a TON of value!
Im a glock guy,but this is one sweet pistol springfield has top notch quality better than sig and cz polymer guns that's a fact, and ya they hate the 2nd while they putting people in arms smh get over it
Had the previous version of the XDS 9. It shot well, but had one major flaw. It would not feed a hollow point round out of a fresh mag, hung up more times then not. Worked fine on a ball or after that first round would go in. Sold it and bought a Glock 19, then a 43. Couldn’t be happier
Tom Jeffserson first I've heard of that. I put 200 hollowpoints through mine with no issues before deciding to carry it. What kind of hollowpoints were you using?
the grip zone is 3 fingers on you wallet! it works well for Springfield! they keep making these great guns, then grip out a little from YOUR billfold! its worth it, these guns they produce are worth the money! gonna get me a 4 inch barrel on a xds! soon as I can find one.
Nah I don't have a gauge, but I think it's a bit lighter than my Mod 2 double stack. I've only put 50 rounds through it so far which means the trigger isn't broken in yet.
I was at a special Springfield Armory event. Reps from Springfield brought a bunch of their guns to shoot including the xds mod 2 9mm. Had several of the new unannounced xds mod 2 9mm configurations available to buy. Got some free swag as well.
I own Glocks ,S&W , Beretta and SA and SIG out of all my Tupperware imo the SA feels great in hand and is the top of the group in quality fit and finish I already have the xds 4.0 I’ll definitely pick one of these up 💀
Love the Springfield XD line of handguns. I have a Springfield XDM in 4.25 barrel in two-tone and it has a awesome trigger on it. My Dad loves the reset on the trigger and i put Meprolight night sights on it for him. He uses it for his security job EDC and loves the sights on it now. I think it's a awesome handgun for the money and accessores that come with it.
So now to get into it I love my XD-S Mod 2 even though I’m 6ft4in tall with obviously large hands it’s easily concealed on my frame and with the 9+1 Mag it fits my hand perfectly. Never leave home without it and if I’m carrying another open carry weapon it’s always my backup.
I just got one of these and I love it traded for a Glock 44 and only $60 on top great deal only catch is it didn't come with a magazine but I have one getting shipped in soon and I can't wait to fire it
I’m carrying one and it feels great. The pinky extension is comfortable. I kind of found some issues with the ambidextrous mag release (it will move from one side to the other and had difficulty going back in place, I had to adjust it with my hand to fall back in place. maybe lubricating it should solve the problem ? Another issue is capacity, You have 7+1 instead of 10 , 12 or 15. But carrying and extra mag will solve this part. The gun doesn’t print much with a shirt and doesn’t feel heavy. I carry it in a leather holster and haven’t had problems with it. I recommend it.
I have a Mod1 XDS9. 8,900 trouble free rounds. More accurate than any pistol that size has a right to be. Just a couple hundred rounds ago, I sent it to Powder River Precision for some work. Nothing was wrong....just wanted to tune it up a bit. I sent them the pistol, and they did the following: all stainless steel pins (I carry against bare skin in summer), installed a set of provided XS Big Dot sights, Crowned the barrel 11*, and installed their 5lb carry trigger, and their extended grip safety. I never thought such a minor thing could make such a difference in accuracy (referring to barrel crowning). The already tight groups it produced were reduced by about 1/3-1/2. Its accuracy now borders on the ridiculous. As for my single gripe about the original XDS: If the grip safety fails, the slide is locked in place, and must be sent to Springfield for repair...possibly with a live round in the chamber. While Springfield fixed this with the XDS Mod 2, PRPs extended grip safety for ALL the XD models accomplishes the same thing. If the grip safety spring fails, it merely deadens the trigger. You can clear the weapon, as the slide is not affected. XDs tend to get a lot of hate, but I won't be parting with my trusty XDS any time soon!
Thanks James. I'm not a fan of the xd line of pistols but I appreciate the videos you make. Some of the most entertaining gun reviews out there. Can wait for another mail episode!
@@benjibanks7894 Thank you for your reply. I usually do DA/SA or DAO for CC, but with the grip safety I feel safe with a SF. My son has a Springfield AR and I have the XDE and we have a least 1k through the pistol and maybe 3k through the AR and they have been flawless. Thank you very much for your time, I want this mod 2 once they become available again.
Loved my original Xds, gonna have to get my hands on this updated model. I'd love to see a Xds mod 2 in 45. With a 4 inch barrel. I'd throw my money right at it. Great review boss
Sig P365 best on the market! Only plus, and plus is not for everyone is the grip safety...otherwise capacity, reliability,EDC, Sig P365 is the current EDC pound for pound champ!!!
Everything you mentioned is right on. Only thing I am giving some time to prove reliability. Academy Sports has it for $499. Trust me I am so close to purchase one
Thanks for your review of this gun! Our LGS has this available WITH a Viridian red laser included for $460, we think a pretty good deal considering that the laser generally runs for around $100 anyway! This would be for my gf, people say it is easier to rack, important for her, we think it would be perfect for her for CC. Good review, just subscribed!
"Concealed Carry Junkie." Finally I don't feel weird for having bought almost all of them, and I have to admit I haven't carried any of them for more than a year at a time. The ones I carried the longest were the Glock 43 and Sig P365. But guess what, today I'm getting a XDS-9 (gen1) with the stainless slide because I had the 45, loved it, and I think the 9 in stainless is going to be my best yet. I always think that though.
I enjoy and agree with most of your reviews and look forward to getting my hands on this pistol. I am not a big springfield fan but would seriously think of carrying this one. Keep the videos coming.
My doubble stacks are all glocks because of the whole glock mag thing, however, im looking into getting a singlestack for summer carry and this will probably be the pistol i go with.
I never got a gun case when I bought my XDS. It was the gun extra clip the manual and gun lock. And, the cardboard box that it was shipped in when I bought it.
I purchased one of this a few days ago. I just realized they only have a front night sight and not a rear night sight on the pistol. Anyone know why Springfield did this? You would think if you can't see your rear sights at night, you can't line up your sights, this makes the front night sight alone useless...
I love my Xd mod 2 subcompact double stack…single stack is fine if you like carrying extra magazine..but double stacked is best for me.. although it’s a nice firearm it’s a Springfield…✌🏿
This is a nice carry gun I have one and am very pleased, it carry’s very unnoticeable and it handles very nice not snappy at all, I also like the look. its a sexy looking handgun.
I hate the sharp rear sight on mine. It rubs against my belly and is really uncomfortable to wear appendix when sitting. Would it help if I lost weight in my stomach area? Maybe, but where else am I going to store my beer and pizza?
Got my CCW permit couple days ago. Plan on getting my conceal carry gun this Friday.Right now leaning towards this springfield or the shield 2.0? I welcome peoples opinions on which one to choose and why. Thanks!
@@dthompsont3796 I ended up going with the springfield xds mod 2 9mm. It feels great in my hand shoot very nice and the springfield promotion they have going on was the dealbuster for me. With those 3 extra mags before December 31st purchase. It actually came with 8 round mags and those feel PERFECT in my hand.
I believe my dad just bought one of these and the trigger felt very heavy, is that because the gun is still new? It is a much heavier trigger than a Taurus g2c that I have shot
I would have to shoot all of them to see which one I want. But the xdm have a 13 and 19 round clips so I will definitely check them out I love that feature. I still want the xd mod.2 4.0 model that holds 16 plus 1 and the xdm holds 19 rounds I'm down with that.
Picked up one of these in .45 cal today. Looking forward to trying it out asap. Tried it yesterday at the range. Shoots a variety of ammo types and grains flawlessly. It ate anything. Recoil was surprisingly very little for a 30 oz pistol when fully loaded. Only thing I regret is it doesn't have a visible hammer. It is not only the first poly gun but also the first striker fired pistol I have ever owned. But it will be a good Jeep Wrangler gun in case some fuckhead decides to steal it.
I did not see a zone where one is to grip the pistol. I don't think I will be able to operate the pistol without that information.
Beat me to it, ya dirty rotten.... LOL

Tom Jeffserson first I've heard of that. I put 200 hollowpoints through mine with no issues before deciding to carry it. What kind of hollowpoints were you using?
MOAR VIDEOS OF JAMES READING MAIL AND DRINKING!
Mail Room #14 is uploaded, just needs to be scheduled. - James
I've had one of these for 2.5 yrs.. several thousand rounds.. no hiccups except for 3 dud rounds of winchester last year.
That’s why I use talon grips on my carry guns I like the gritty feel you know it’s not gonna slip out and can get a good grip
I stand with Springfield Armory. #fuckthehaters
Their products and customer service are great.
I like the grip safety and reliability
I love my mod2 in 9mm. Put 200 rounds through it and I love it.
Where is the grip zone though?
Mike Scott and RACK ZONE, how em I supposed to rack this thing?
its for women, calm down
the grip zone is 3 fingers on you wallet! it works well for Springfield! they keep making these great guns, then grip out a little from YOUR billfold! its worth it, these guns they produce are worth the money! gonna get me a 4 inch barrel on a xds! soon as I can find one.
@@atl3630 Are you that stupid?
@@howardjohnson6584 Sometimes it's better to not say anything, especially if you have nothing nice to say.
Love mine. Battle tested gun that keeps getting better with every change in the gun over the years.
You won me at 25,000 rounds with no hiccups.
I actually picked this up last week for low $400. It's awesome. Been waiting a long time for the Mod 2 to come to the XD-S line.
Can you give a trigger weight ?
Nah I don't have a gauge, but I think it's a bit lighter than my Mod 2 double stack. I've only put 50 rounds through it so far which means the trigger isn't broken in yet.
airbomb34 I bought one in .45 today. Can't wait to take it out and shoot it. Sweet gun. Came with 4 mags and a holster.
airbomb34 how did you pick 1 up last week? They just released them yesterday.
Great gun.
My next gun is the new XDM 10mm
So now to get into it I love my XD-S Mod 2 even though I’m 6ft4in tall with obviously large hands it’s easily concealed on my frame and with the 9+1 Mag it fits my hand perfectly. Never leave home without it and if I’m carrying another open carry weapon it’s always my backup.
Also mine came optics ready so the mini red dot is on point.
I may have to upgrade from my Mod 1 to this pistol.
Thanks for the review!
I have older xds45, love it. Very well built
Everything about the XDS is better than the Glock except the Glock is a few ounces lighter.
Agreed. The extra capacity makes the slightly larger size/heavier weight negligible to me
Gotta disagree but every got a different opinion.
the only thing I don’t like is probably round capacity
Is there ways to get extended mags for this gun
Thanks James. I'm not a fan of the xd line of pistols but I appreciate the videos you make. Some of the most entertaining gun reviews out there. Can wait for another mail episode!
Love my XDs 9mm. Great carry piece.
I have the XD-E and love it do you still like this XD-S? I am interested in it too.
@@romans6two338 Yes I still carry it. I use the 8round magazine's with it. Great gun.
If everyone hates Springfield so much (including me) why don't we hate Daniel Defense as much too??
112 224 448 who says we don't
Loved my original Xds, gonna have to get my hands on this updated model. I'd love to see a Xds mod 2 in 45. With a 4 inch barrel. I'd throw my money right at it. Great review boss
Great review! Just picked up the XDS Mod2 9mm in stainless for $479. Paired with the Crossbreed MiniTuck for my EDC
Have the Mod1 and love it.
I got the 45 version and I love it. 0 issues with the gun so far. Dont you hate the springfield xd line James? lol
Walther PPS M2 w/night sights all the way for single stack wonder-nine!
I've got the Walther PPS M2 myself and I love it.
Great gun
My XDs 9mm is now my edc....my SA911 380 failed few times today, thank goodness I never had to depend on it.
Great video. Love tuning in to see new videos and really great real world information. Great Job
Definitely be buying one. About time they did this!
Phrasing...I never want to hear the gun market is "jammed up." *TRIGGERED!*
He meant it's jammed up his... shorts.
Nice work man. I just discovered you the other day I love your channel I love your attitude love your enthusiasm and will be a steady follower
Like they say… you don’t know what you had until it’s gone… wish I never got rid of my xds mod-2 3.3 :(
Bought an XD-9 in 2008 and an XD-S in 2014. Number of total misfires between them: 0
I like the mod 1 better than the 2. The grip is more aggressive on the mod 1. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I don't hate the XDs. Really anything is better than the truly hipster offering; the CZ Rami.
I got the SPRINGFIELD XDS MOD-2 in 40 cal single stack.
Will the mod-1s magazines work in the mod-2s?
I enjoy and agree with most of your reviews and look forward to getting my hands on this pistol. I am not a big springfield fan but would seriously think of carrying this one. Keep the videos coming.
Nice shirt. Blue alpha gear rocks and it’s just down the road from me
MrRPM110 no worries
MatteoSixSeventyFour blue alpha gear. Not Springfield. I edited my original comment to make it clearer
Keep both eyes open when you shoot
My doubble stacks are all glocks because of the whole glock mag thing, however, im looking into getting a singlestack for summer carry and this will probably be the pistol i go with.
Same lol I bought a gen 3 19 for bugout and a g43 as a first real compact pistol. This xd is my newest purchase and I love everything about it
Pretty good review. But I still prefer my PPS M2. I have upgraded my magazine with the MagGuts spring system so I can now carry 7+1 instead of 6+1.
I never got a gun case when I bought my XDS. It was the gun extra clip the manual and gun lock. And, the cardboard box that it was shipped in when I bought it.
Purchased a XD Mod 2.0 9mm Subcompact for 350 brand new plus Springfields Gear Up that I redeemed online. What a steal!!
Yeah !!
I'm lookin' to buy the same package next week.
I'd rather have the 4.0" barrel.
I want a gun with more rounds and right now I'm loving the xdm.
But how do you hold it?🤷♂️
You put your hands in the gripzo... Oh wait, I can't tell on this gun.
If you can't figure out how to hold this firearm then you're opinion on firearm's must be as valid as you're degree in liking the color 2🤗
HK needs to make one so I can put my XDS to rest. Not that I hate it, but i love HK
I am loving your closing music
Almost done transferring my state DL going to pick one up in a couple of months.
I purchased one of this a few days ago. I just realized they only have a front night sight and not a rear night sight on the pistol. Anyone know why Springfield did this? You would think if you can't see your rear sights at night, you can't line up your sights, this makes the front night sight alone useless...
Okay okay, I'm going to get one. Great reviews
I've had many xd's good guns. Walther PPS M2 awesome. I also like my shield 2.0 with integrated laser.
I love my Xd mod 2 subcompact double stack…single stack is fine if you like carrying extra magazine..but double stacked is best for me.. although it’s a nice firearm it’s a Springfield…✌🏿
Outstanding review Thanks bro
This is a nice carry gun I have one and am very pleased, it carry’s very unnoticeable and it handles very nice not snappy at all, I also like the look. its a sexy looking handgun.
I hate the sharp rear sight on mine. It rubs against my belly and is really uncomfortable to wear appendix when sitting. Would it help if I lost weight in my stomach area? Maybe, but where else am I going to store my beer and pizza?
Excellent review! Keep up the great work!
Damn! Got mine last fall. Should’ve waited!
When is it supposed to hit the market? I don’t see it anywhere?
Awesome review thinking of getting the xds 45 next
Just ordered this today!
Great review!
I'd like to see this compared to the SA 911 9mm now. Which one would be the better backup concealed carry gun.
Easy peazy, thank you sir!
Got my CCW permit couple days ago. Plan on getting my conceal carry gun this Friday.Right now leaning towards this springfield or the shield 2.0? I welcome peoples opinions on which one to choose and why. Thanks!
What did you get. My brother has the shield and I have the 40 xds. Both are good.
@@kevinmota9268 How has it performed for you? Still like it?
I believe my dad just bought one of these and the trigger felt very heavy, is that because the gun is still new? It is a much heavier trigger than a Taurus g2c that I have shot
I would have to shoot all of them to see which one I want. But the xdm have a 13 and 19 round clips so I will definitely check them out I love that feature. I still want the xd mod.2 4.0 model that holds 16 plus 1 and the xdm holds 19 rounds I'm down with that.
Cool! i bought a g43 before i knew this was coming out. Nice vid
Cant go wrong with the g43. Congrats
Pick one up real soon
I still think the Shield 9mm is perfect with the 8rd magazine. Its so thin.
The Busterdog 🤦♂️
