What I learned from Overwatch over the last decade is: No matter how good or polished or fun your game is once the initial honeymoon time is over people are going to become frustrated about certain issues the game is inevitably going to have, and you either fix them fast or watch the playerbase disappear.
there are people trying to enforce a meta game by limiting teams to x amount of heroes already.
basically what killed overwatch for the casuals.
if the devs listen to any of these guys its game over.
they created an awesome game they don't have to try to appease people who don't care for the games actual fun.
For example, although the game is fun but things like server latency pulling your legs and jump delay are pretty frustrating the more I play
@@raptimeleavebuster5766 sure but you also have the fortnite side of things where that game is pretty much ONLY for casuals. Sure there is a competitive mode and there are tryhards. But it's rare for me to come away from a game of fortnite nowadays and feel like I actually did something impressive. I'm always like "damn that was cool.......but man those guys sucked serious ass."
I took a slightly different lesson from Overwatch, which was that no video game will make you happy forever and every game will have stuff that annoys you, so you should just enjoy games for what they are: marvelous little toys.
Siege tho. They didn't fix it fast but they did fix it! Even battlefield 2042 rn is doing good. As long as the fix the games period, I would come back😊. I hate when studios refuse to acknowledge issues and then just don't do shit *cough cough MW2 2022 perk system, minimap system, etc*
you had me at "dude runs through a wall and destroys it"
Kool aid man. I was just looking at reading a great comic book series for Batman where he busts right through a wall on a dope panel. Strangely this came up out of nowhere
You don't youtube a lot but you're always making some of the most eloquent and clear-sighted videos about video games. I've got many notifications for The Finals but this is the video I wanted to watch first. :)

I think the issue with an ambitious game like this is it’s super fun and the idea sounds awesome. But if you don’t have a big team and lots of money to startup it just gets overrun with balancing issues and not being polished
honestly a point system for loadouts seems like an easy way to keep a somewhat decent balance and would make adding weapons/tools to the game fairly easy to balance by just assigning a cost.
If they go this route or maybe limiting how many body types you can run on a squad, i hope they leave a mode with no restrictions to just go and have fun with bonkers build/teams. it doesn't have to be about being competitive all the time...
@@damp2269 no that's fucking stupid. Get good at the game and it doesn't matter what loadout you run.
It's been in development since 2020 and they have had no financial issues yet
@@MagicCookieGamingand very experienced devs, and good experienced devs at that
@@damp2269 I really like that system. Hope it gets considered.
Im glad that you pointed out the movement and gunplay issues. After playing it today, I wasn't sure if I was just bad, the servers were lagging, or both (it's definitely both). But something definitely felt unsatisfying about the weapons accuracy, along with all of the visual clutter that fills your screen when you ADS. At some point I just started running sonar grenades with medium and hoping that I could use hitmarkers to place my crosshair because the center of my screen was filled with illegible muzzle flare and particle effects. The insanity of this game is off the charts, and I love it, but I think it might be leaning a bit too far into Apex-style aiming, when something like Halo or even CS would work better.
NO one does an analysis quite like Seagull. Didn't know about this game but glad you shined a light on it.
i did, but not on youtube - don't call me no one, ok? i am sad now #joking
Coming back a year later - they really cleaned a lot of this up. I'm so happy with this game, love it
This looks incredibly exiting and like everything Ive ever wanted from a shooter. I really hope Ill get in the Beta.
Objectives are so underrated in FPS games. TDM and Last Man Standing is just way too common. I think it's why I used to enjoy Dirty Bomb so much and why I LOVE Hunt: Showdown so much today. Having areas with natural gravity to pull players together, incentives to do non-killing things, alternate ways to win other than killing everyone, all make FPS games so much more fun and interesting. R6S has interesting gameplay and I'll probably never stop playing, but to bomb only gets planted... what, 1 in 10 games? I hope this game does well, it looks neat.
Also good to see you upload again Seagull, your insights are always nice and I hope you're doing well.
I genuinely enjoy listening and watching you talk about video games. I really hope you consider giving this youtube thing a serious try. You have the potential: voice, analytical look and the knowledge of the video game industry.
this is crazy that you released a video on this. I have been searching all morning for FINALS videos, trying to prepare for the beta tomorrow. the main problem I had was that I wanted to know exactly how the game is played. then you came out with this EXACT video. THANK YOU!
The good thing about your cons, is that they are all fairly simple things to address with the exception of balance maybe but pretty much no game ever gets that completely perfect. I've got high hopes for this you can tell these people really care about what they are creating here
Looks fun - thanks for sharing my man
Really good take with everything I've seen about this game. An interesting point is how the meta of the game evolves and if the developers can push frequent enough updates once it's available publicly. I remember roughly 2012-2014 that Starcraft 2 fell off dramatically due to the lack of updates and the meta becoming the same, so by the time Legacy of the Void came out a lot of the active player base had left.
Really nice to get some concise pros and cons that actually matter to what I think of when playing a game. After watching the video, I now have things to weigh.
👍
I love this content!! Please keep making videos like this :)
Sounds cool. Will be keeping an eye on this one.
The balance discussion segment had me going YES YES with my sickos shirt on.
The gameplay reminds me a lot of games (Battlefield, Apex) but the character creator also reminds me of BRINK where character and combat legibility was an issue.
The most obvious restriction would be to give each build a pool of gadgets? Like maybe the Heavy can bring turrets but the Lightweight gets stuff like the Grapple, Jump Pad. Battlefield is a chaotic game but the class based structure gives gameplay focus which is good.
Im loving the look of this game though. Destruction looks insane and I like the objective focused gameplay instead of just being a normal Battle Royale where the goal is to simply outlast the other teams.
Between this and ARK Raiders? I’m real excited to see what Embark can dish when these games are ready to go. I always love seeing new studios crop up and drop some new material!
The game already has gadget restrictions between classes
@@ItsAustennn Dually noted. Looking forward to playing this game when I get the chance, looks crazy fun.
Looks fantastic! Pure mayhem and fun!
the movement and aiming is FLOATY. going from Overwatch to this makes me feel like i’ve never played a video game before.
This is so cool. Please live up to the possibilities, game 🙏
It gives me hyperscape vibes along with a few other games mixed in
I feel like theres some sort of mass mandela effect with the gun feel, people see a game with the typical ''free to play battle royale'' asthetic, and inmediately default to ''guns feel bad'' while the games has animations and kick on par with modern warfare. In fact the gunplay in general is like modern warfares, but in CODs case, everyone understands that you dont need to learn recoil patterns for gunplay to be good, yet the standards change when its another game. I feel like the game already has a ton going on, you dont need to make the gunplay as complex as it is in games where its the main thing you have to pay atention to.
For example, in Overwatch, no one complains that Mcree or Soldier have no recoil, their purpose is clear, revolver guy with big damage in every shot, and AR guy with sustained DPS, the finals is the same, notice how there is only 1 gun for each class, only 1 sniper only 1 assault rifle, these are gun arquetipes, this isnt CSGO where there are 20 assault rifles and SMGs and a part of the game is knowing the recoil of each
tbh, most of the points being made seem to be voiced through the perspective of competitive integrity and feasibility, which kind of go against modern AAA competitive shooter design, its interesting to see how much games have changed over the years, especially the ones with competitive or multiplayer elements
balance teams should stop trying to listen to pro players and streamers.
following their opinions is how you quickly destroy your game they will follow whatever game is popular.
trying to appease them and not the actual fanbase/casuals is how you lose a games steam.
@@raptimeleavebuster5766 most of the commentary is about first impressions, how are you gonna talk about a crippling fanbase for a new game most people don't know about? Things like gameplay legibility affect what players perceive when they see the game for the first time on a stream or random video and what their experience will be like as a new player. Hardcore players are what usually might stick with a game long term for its interesting values, end up in things like tournaments, and wait for issues to get fixed. Casual players will bounce in the blink of an eye when there are so many options to play casually and there are any obvious issues with the current game, they're the ones for which it's more important to nail the fundamentals and the accessibility, depending on the target audience.
And how is "streamers" a demographic? Aren't all kinds of players streamers, from newbies to pro?
I bet nobody is going to remember this reference, but honestly, it reminds me a lot of my first big shooter I was really good at, which was Gotham City Imposters on Xbox 360. Sort of arcade style fps with high ttk, with an emphasis on making your character from scratch. And like Seagull said, it's not a hero shooter. It's a game where you have no idea what people are running until you're dueling with them. Body types with multiple gadget slots and weapons, all freely swapped around for the most part. I really liked what I got to play.
This is definitely a breath of fresh air. You started the video saying this game isn't like anything else. That's why it'll be so good
It's nice to get another perspective on the game. Watched gameplay from punchkid at first, then an impression vid by Skillup. Skillup had a lot of praise for the game, including the weapons.
Either way, I'm also quite interested in seeing where the game goes.
Never change seagull, stay real
100% my exact thoughts when you mentioned visual noise / clutter / muzzle flash and the balance issues regarding rpgs/nade launchers. I really hope they address those two main areas, atleast from a competitive stand point.
everyone and their mother will rock the rpg, c4s, and nade launchers hahahaha
Who cares about competitive. Just have fun
Competitive standpoint is what ruins games, coming from someone who is Competitive. Why are we all trying to be #1 gamer of all time just play the game and enjoy it. Dying stupid deaths and getting funny kills is okay too.
Imagine people complaining back when unreal tournament was hyped "those rocket launchers are way too oppressive it hurts the game balance" fking bruh
@@Herr_Brechmann Another low iq dumb take, the rocket in UT/Quake live didn't 1 hit kill, nor was the projectile speed near instantaneous. On top of that you could strafe and move around the map at much higher velocities which made hitting directs harder. I would know as I have over 1k hours in quake live.
If I can compare this game to something, is probably Gotham City Impostors, which I loved playing and I wanted to see more to it. The builds and the wackyness of that game kinda reminds me of this and I hope it has that same fun I had playing that.
I was just about to say the same! I loved that game and always wanted to see a similar game.. very excited for this
I'm excited. I really hope this game sticks.
Great video Seagull! I definitely agree about the gunplay. It's so shallow from what I have seen and it looks like the gunplay from a random/low budget cheap F2P game on Steam which is fine but as far as the long haul goes... it definitely has me worried honestly. The mechanics are amazing and I could see myself enjoying them for hours but the gunplay is what keeps a lot of people involved in these games like OW, Apex, CoD, whatever game, people love gunplay and its a big selling point. Hopefully they can improve it a little bit. I love the idea of this game and excited for the ftuure.
I think having the customization of builds keeps players on their toes, would keep each match feeling kinda fresh. But yeah the balancing is going to be hell.
The trailer for this game is super hype
Beta is soon over so here's one of my most fun things to do before it ends:
Attach your gadgets on throwables and yeet them into enemy controlled zones. Carry your turret on a plantpot so it aimlocks at anything in front of you. Attach your turret to a goo container and throw it onto a wall high up, the turret will stand on the expanded goo. Put a bunch of mines and C4 onto an explosive barrel and shoot it into a building
Looks fun honestly hope the devs take all this constructive criticisms & make an amazing end product cause I’m already interested
y'know what? i just realized this is essentially an improved version of tf2's player destruction(or headhunter). since having an objective forces you to make a choice and possibly? be more balanced. the issue with pd is the fact that it essentially boils down to who gets the better player, since essentially newer guys just became free beer or whatever the map creator wants to theme the map in
And we back
Played this moths ago when the closed alpha was available. I love this game it's so amazing.
I am really excited for this game
Good video, well summarized
I feel like this game has a lot of potential because the gamplayloop i've seen (with this and other content) multiple teams going at it with full destruction looks really fun. I feel there is a lot of downtime when cashing out. I think that gamemode is a bit flawed so I'm about to propose a few gamemodes that sound fun in which I think can keep an action paced loop with no downtime. That said, this is coming from someone who has no game dev/balanceing experience, I've just been playing games for 10 years and Im just suggesting what I think is fun. 1. Add 2 extra squads, lower respawn, add and extra cash in the middle in between the two cashes. 2. Vip - All teams (whether its 4 or 6) get 1 min of Vip (all 3 are VIP) for a limited time - Vip are Highlighted/scaned for the whole duration but get boosted stats (halfed cooldowns and double hp), you get gold with kills, but if you kill any VIP you get triple gold. 3: Koth(king of the hill) - Aside from the downtime, defending looks like a lot of fun, setting up traps and using the destructive terrain to kite your opponents. There will be 2 koth location and the point will alternate every 30 seconds from stationary to moving and will move in real time to the next location. Capturing the hill is like stealing the cashe, you will just need one person to hold e on the objective to capture it. You accumulate points every second it's captured. 4: Attack/Defend - The lobby will split into two teams (best if there are only 4 teams in lobby). One team attacking, the other team Defending. Defending team has two points. The defending team may move thier objective like carrying the cashe in the original gamemode. After the attacking side captures one objective, the whole lobby will convert to the point there will be a mega battle. The round will end after time limit or if attacking side wins. The roles will flip. If there is a tie breaker, the third round will have each team will have thier own objective they will have to both attack and defend. I think that getting any of these proposed modes to be implemented is as rare as Crypto getting the "off the grid" passive so I don't think it's ever going to happen. Also feel free to disagree

I'm definitely playing this
Great vid!
I really want to play this game. I've been wanting a new shooter to get into for years and this is excitingly new in so many ways. Hope the devs manage to balance and fix it all
If I were the devs i would throw this vid in front of any sort advertising to this game because you explained the game so well and my biggest worry is people see "battlefield destruction, fps game, me play" and get turned off when its not a low ttk fps game where u go on massive kill streaks rather than playing with a team to make a few plays
To me, the finals looks like high octane gameplay almost like hyperscape. I cant tell exactly what it is but it just gives that feeling of chaoticness. I swear that game you were never fighting a team alone and it was always a moshpit of players it was truly a blast and one of few games that at launch really renewed my interest in games. But then came in the broken promises, no real changes to the game, and it died less then a year later. It felt like a passion project that the devs lost the passion for. I REALLY hope this game doesn’t turn out like that
Great Video.
Its really hard to judge how this game will perform. The FPS market is so contested and volatile, but I can see this game getting a core playerbase.
Even if the game has a tight meta, the freedom of the game will make the execution very hard resulting in exciting matches. Comparing this to RB6 where the meta is also quite tight, but there is still enough nuances to make it exciting. Also the game mode is very free so even if the meta develops to be quite lame, you can force interactions by spawning an objective with a big boost (similiar to quake power ups) or simply change the game mode completely.
I actually hope this game gets enough traffic so we can see esports in this game.
The King Returns
Ive watched a couple of videos about this game, my eyes hurt of how much is going on at the same time, and I am one of those people that dont even thing OW is that cluttered, even when I was learning how to play, I wonder if people that actually have problems with seizure or flashing lights can even watch The finals gameplay
This is going to be *the game* and I’m very hopeful for it.
Reminds me of BRINK just with a ton of destruction, fingers crossed it only gets better from here!
Agreed - the muzzle flare instantly gives me a headache. Hope they minimize those effects.
I agree but bro, thats a playtest, lets hope they put the right amount of time in it

This game looks like a must try
This game definitely has the potential to be one of the most revolutionary shooters out there it’s all up to the devs if they can properly manage and balance the game
This game is a big W! Can't wait for the global release
The environmental destruction has a nice, OG Red Faction flavor.

Reminds me of The Cycle, the original game. Not the extraction shooter EFT mode they remade the game into. Loving this, very excited
The cycle is sooooo good
@@Synky People missed out, and it was free! Variety of missions, unlocks, weapons, customization, suit abilities. The race to out score the other teams, or hunt them down was exhilarating. Then the final extraction was hectic!. Ugh me and my friends miss that game dearly. The Finals might fill that void, but it's lacking lol
@@JDrach30 yup, I was talking about the cycle frontier, never played the version you're talking about. But I've heard it countless times now not just from you that ppl enjoyed the original better. Wish I played it. But I also really do think the cycle frontier is the most exhilarating game out there right now, even though it's dead and very few are playing it, I still have hopes it will take off.
It’s important to remember that this game is still in its beta form, and that almost none of these issues are set in stone. I can understand your points about balancing, where without any limits like value/point systems or market mechanics on loadouts, anyone can just run an OP loadout from square one. However, I must say that I don’t see anything wrong with the unpredictability of what your opponents are going to be using, as the game is meant to be a game show wants to feed the audience with all the twists and turns they can. And, it sort of demands players to become innovative yet flexible with their strategies, and also take a little, but not too much, time to scope out the situation before diving headfirst into a crumbling building and a torrent of bullets. Additionally, we’ve all become so used to games holding our hands through impossible situations. There’s really no reason that you should be able to have good visibility when a 4 story building is literally collapsing around you
This game looks so freaking fun
Seagull where did you go
Good vid. Really love how you don't have background music.
Great breakdown by the birdman
My point view is they put TF2 class+ Apex TTK and esports theme +BF destruction and UE tournament CTF mode & weapon type into a fall-guys framework
I played a little bit this morning and while it seems ultra ambitious, I was turned off a bit by the controls. The preview vids show players running freely really fast and jumping around everywhere but when I played it felt like I was stuck in mud. It was really stiff and honestly kinda slow during movement. I saw the same complaints on some Steam discussions so hopefully that's addressed.
I'm loving the way this game looks right now. The possibility for counterplay is insane and the destruction is awesome. That being said the triple medium with defibs and turrets strat is pretty busted 😆
yea, playing with randoms sometimes can be a nightmare, i mean ive played many modern fps but this really takes the cake, like literally leave if you didnt get the vault on the first match,
Hope you make a comeback to RUclips with this game you always had some of the best content on overwatch
I’m excited to give this a try. I’m still waiting for an invite
The movement tech alone though makes me wanna dive into the game
"It's a breathe of fresh air that this game is different from other games".

Do you remember how Hyper Scape had their guns and abilities in different areas of the map that you had to actively pick up?
That assasin class is the wet dream of Spy main in team fortress 2...
Im concerned
I feel like the only thing missing in this game is a theater mode. Probably would be hell too make but dam imagine people bringing back the “only in Battlefield” moments in The Finals and making insane clips
It's fun as hell haha
I played the beta too. I am hoping this game can be that in-between of Overwatch and tf2 for causal players where it’s just serious enough to want to play the objective but not serious enough that you feel like you have to sweat your butt off
This game is fresh!!! I think it is going to take off and set the standard, so far 9 out of 10 content creators are giggling like little girls while playing, half of whom forget they are in a gun fight and are running around blowing the map to pieces😂😂
It took me a few seconds to realise this was a fabled upload on A_Seagull not B_Seagull

The finals is basically the warzone 1.0 game mode where you extracted cash to win
The finals is a combination of Monday Night Combat and battlefield
It's a closed beta (which is basically an alpha with no NDA). So I'm fine with where it is currently. Could work on it's ttk and movement but outside of that I'd love a tdm only mode.
