    Maybe you should force yourself to feel disconnected from the G80 and not think of it as one of your keepers, but think of it as the Helen property car. A 4-door sedan would probably rent well when families are staying at Destination OG. Plus if the plan is to still have an RS as a second rental car, keep the 911 as your coupe mountain carver. It's hard to beat G80 performance and practicality for the price.

    • @SpeedStrat
      @SpeedStrat Год назад +14

      Completely agree. We've seen the anxiety Matt faces when returning to Helen after rentals - in addition to this being a perfect easy car for borrowers of Destination OG to use, not having something Matt is super attached to would be much healthier given the expected wear it will receive. With a GT4 RS up there he'll never want to lend it out

    • @91accordexr33
      @91accordexr33 Год назад +5

      @Mark C yup, agreed. Matt should approach this car and build from a new perspective: the OG Renter. There might be people who want an "easy" rental and have the experience of the OG "specness" of the mods. If the plan is still to overturn/replace these cars after X amount of time, I think the current G80 would be a safe trial run.

    • @JimG89887
      @JimG89887 Год назад +5

      For sure. The original plan was for it to always be a Helen car, not a keeper. This would rent a lot better than a Cayman, especially if people are bringing their families, which I am sure is the case for the majority of "borrowers". Its just more practical for people a wider range of people.

    • @Wisesap
      @Wisesap Год назад +1

      Agree. A good family hauler. And if Matt isn’t going to be driving it then no real need to love it. The one concern I would have is the power. There are a lot of people out there that think they can drive. I’d hate to see someone get hurt if there not that proficient on how to handle the car.

    Any car dialed-in by Matty is a gem of a car to buy.

  • @HammerPowered
    @HammerPowered Год назад +15

    As several others have pointed out, this car is going to be the "borrow my car for money" car at the Helen house, not one you intend to drive or keep for yourself at home. Probably a lot of families/groups there, so the 4-door makes sense and would probably rent well. And being that it's not a car you're high on and not really connected to (your feelings at the end pointed to that at least) it won't crush you as much if something were to happen to it.

    • @svm3jt
      @svm3jt Год назад +9

      While true, the Helen house and everything they have done to it is a representation of Matt and OG. As he always said he buys and does the things he wants and he believes that what his customer want. Having a car, even a rental, that Matt doesn’t like goes against business model. The full OG Destination experience means being able to rent a car that is OG approved. The G80 doesn’t fit the mold.

    Keep the car as originally planned. A perfect “rental” car for families who will be staying at destination OG. easy learning curve (not everyone can drive Manual or drive it well enough to handle something like a 911 GT3 RS). I’m probably missing some here, but this sounds like the perfect scenario. Any car I was going to rent to strangers should be one I have no desire to drive or connect with. If you aren’t in love with it, it’s the perfect rental vehicle to leave somewhere far away to make money from and not be emotionally attached to it.
    That way when damage happens, it’s just a car to you and you won’t have to agonize over it.
    In other words; it’s part of your cattle herd for profit rather than a family pet that you love.

    Dahler Tuning Module, BMC Drop ins + Secondary Charcoal Removal, High Flow Catted Downpipes, Midpipe & and a few gallons of 93 + 260GT + E85 = (98octane+E25/E30) and your pushing around 650WHP & 585lbs. Thats 10.4 - 10.6 second 1/4 mile with quality tires(needed if you lost the tire lottery and get the Pirellis).
    I own a G80CXD Skyscraper, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I love it more after every time I drive it. That level of performance & practicality have never been offered before in a single platform. No, its not a pure drivers car, but damn does it do a lot of things very well. Its versatility & functionality are impressive. It goes from Housewife to Stripper with just a push of a button. I can have both kiddos comfortably in their backseats & groceries in the spacious trunk, once I unload them, the next minute I can be gapping C8 Vettes in stock form, and C8Z06's in its present form. BMW did an amazing job with their XDrive & launch control system, to still have that RWD feel, the tail is still playful, and you can switch it in RWD mode if you want. For someone who has 4 seasons, its the ultimate sports car for us Dads.
    Most large purchases in life, most of the time you'll have a feeling of buyers remorse afterwards, but I never had that with this car. Being the work that you have done to the car, most of which we all want to do within the first 6 months of ownership, I dont think youll have a problem in selling it. As we are all aware of the quality of work that you do, so I think youll have some serious offers soon. I would purchase another one, specifcally to build out, but Im just not a fan of purple,a dn for my build car, I think Ill choose a G82CXD because it is slightly lighter, and I want to do everything I can to lighten the build out car(Carbon Buckets, Ceramic brakes, etc)....
    I WISH..... I PRAY BMW one day soon offers a G87 M2C XDrive version.... I would absolutely purchase that car, being it also has the S58 engine, which is a freaking modern marvel.
    All cars are not for all people, we all have different tastes & preferences... Great thing about living in a Capitalist society is we get enough options to match our preferences. Good to know though whoever is lucky enough to buy that from you, will receive a great car with tasteful mods & quality protections in place.

When you drove the 997.2 last video, it was easy to tell that you LOVED that car. The major difference other than the obvious is that car is raw and analogue. It is clear you enjoy that feeling more so than the G80, nothing wrong with that what so ever. I say keep it, continue the build and send it to Helen for 6-9 months and see what happens. The M3 is a great car for people to rent at the Helen house. At the end of the day it’s a holiday home rental car, not part of your personal collection. If four adults want to go out for lunch then a Cayman would be useless. You could always look at a new M2 or M240i which you could just deliver to Helen without spending weeks modifying it. If it’s a rental car then just leave it stock.

    I’m not sure why anyone would cross shop a 4 door sedan with a sports car. At the end of the day, the M3 is an amazing performing car, with daily driving refinement and practicality. If you don’t need back seats and good trunk space, of course a more raw, performance driven sports car is a more inspiring car to drive. I currently own an xdrive g80 m3, and previously owned an Alfa Guilia quadrifoglio, both amazing cars for their intended purpose. The dual personalities you can achieve with these modern sports sedans make them a great candidate for an only car as a car enthusiast. The ability to drop the kids off at school, pick up groceries for a household, and have an enjoyable smooth commute on the highway, loaded with creature comfort features and refinement, yet when you’re in the mood for more spirited or track driving, simply hit your M modes to transform the car. Let’s just enjoy these cars while we can before manufactures are forced to make completely emotionless electrics, with true artificial sound.

    I was hoping Matt would like the G80 overall even if he still hates the front, and it did make him smile a few times on this drive (even if he's reluctant to admit it). Unfortunately, the G80 was never going to get a fair shake because 1. The Jahre package is not how Matt would've spec'd one and 2. Having it arrive around the same time as the ultimate passion project GT3 RS knocked it almost below underdog status.

    Can you elaborate on the feel of this M3 vs your Porsche GT3? I realize the GT3 would be in another category but would love to hear your thoughts on why Porsche is that "next level up" even above the best of what BMW M brings out.

    I feel like if this was back in the start of OG and it was just this and a lower Porsche you might be happier but you are in the position to have much nicer. Nothing wrong with that. It sounds like you know it's a great car but when you can have multiple RS cars and older BMWs then this isn't really your bag. I personally really like a lot about it and am looking forward to owning one one day and will follow a lot of what your plans are for it. I think Porsche has spoiled you.. lol

    There’s a big difference between a car being just fast and providing an overall performance/experience in my opinion. Beautiful car, I agree ugly ugly nose, and I’m sure it’s fast but it’s not exciting at all - At least to me. I think when you are comparing it to the 997 GT3, there is no comparison. Porsche knows the formula of how to make a true performance car. Sound plays a large role of that performance too. I’m not saying BMW can’t build good cars, but I don’t think this car is that exciting. With that said, it could be an excellent car to keep at Helen for families to borrow but a Cayman GTS 4.0 or GT4 is much more fun and engaging in my opinion.

    “Really great, digital, family experience” “I see why people love the car, I just don’t” Matt you said it yourself. Yes you own this car and you feel the need for it to be perfect for you. Yet the whole idea of this car is for your rental tenets to enjoy it where they don’t own this experience at home. A cayman gts or any coupe for that matter would absolutely ruin the purpose of the cars destiny.
